Gauteng youth find sanctuary in youth friendly service centres prioritising their wellbeing

As we commemorate Youth Month, the
Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) shines
the light on young people who have found a
safe space in the Adolescent Youth Friendly
Service (AYFS) Centres where their healthcare
needs are prioritised by professional nurses,
psychologists, and social workers.
One of the GDoH’s mandate is to ensure
that people’s lives are prolonged, and since
the establishment of the AYFS centers,
more young people have been consulting
without shame because they understand
that the clinic offers comprehensive
healthcare services to them, they don’t
have to stand in long queues and they are
offered the privacy they need.
Some of the services offered at the AYFS
include family planning, legal termination of pregnancy, Antenatal Care, health and sex
education, management of chronic illnesses
and mental health awareness amongst
others.
