Went with the cross flow. Absolutely love it. Same flow numbers as 2 race pros. Better ground clearance and only has a slight drone at 1500-1700 rpm off idle. Looks awesome!
I have the Street pro mufflers and didn't like them at first but have gotten used to them, never really noticed a droning problem. The one thing I did not like was the Pypes tailpipe and splitters that came with the system. I installed OE Walker tailpipes and splitters which are 2 1/4 in, that meant I had to use a reducer at the mufflers, but it didn't seem to affect the performance, while fitting much better. Car is a 77 Y-82 with 400 Pontiac and TH350 trans. Love your brown TA btw.
Sounds like the cat has been removed. The best after market exhaust system is made by Gardner. They are meticulous regarding factory specifications although the ‘79 W72 exhaust system necessitates removing the cat.
Interesting I also have the same system with Street Pro mufflers on both my 79 Trans AM and 70 Chevelle and I don't have a noticeable drone noise issue in either one. I'm doing another build now and will try the race pros on the next one. I also have heard good things about them.
Your car is absolutely beautiful, even the underside. I'm in the process of restoring my '77 Y82 (SE) car, and I can only hope to get it as nice as yours. I'm extremely jealous of your two-post lift. Now some dumb questions/comments 😁. It seems odd that the Race Pros would be quieter than the Street Pros. I'm considering putting the Pypes transverse muffler on my car, as I don't want to deal with the duals dragging the ground, or rubbing against the floor pans (could this be the cause of the droning?). It seems like your t-tops should have silver frames, to match the windshield and rear window trim. It also seems like the taillight panels should be body colored, but that's a matter of personal preference. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the comment. They are a lot quieter. I initially ordered the street pros thinking they would have been quieter lol. The trim on the t tops was black (faded) on it when I bought it. The tail panel is also correct. Although a body colored panel would be a great custom touch.
Im putting my 78 together, im looking at exhaust. Your set up looks awesome, do you have part numbers from manifold back to tips please?Original system you had is fine, im going cheap as possible for now and upgrade later when i have the money. Thank you. Your car is amazing
Thanks for your comment. I looked but can’t find the invoice. I did get everything from Summit Racing. Also check Pypes website. It has everything there. Good luck.
Great video - thanks for sharing. Absolutely gorgeous car top to bottom! I'm trying to decide on a new system for my 73 TA (using manifolds) and am curious about the overall fitment and ease of installation with the full Pypes system. I understand there may be some trimming here and there, but hoping to avoid any major fabrication. I'm also a fan of the band clamps as they look better and allow for easier disassembly if needed. How was your experience when you installed the full Pypes system?
Thanks for the comment. The system was very easy to install. I didn't have any problems with fitment. Little trimming was involved but that's it. Good luck.
if you still have drone issues you can run a j pipe jus infront of the muffler . you have to cut a hole in the pipe infront of muffler 4 " infront and then weld the j shaped pipe on and cap of the end . at different rpms it cancels out the frequency aka drone

Love Chesterfield brown
Thanks. It's a great color.
Had the same car back in 78, mine had the snowflake rims and white interior, but everything else was the same, wish I had it back
Sounds like a cool color combo.

I did like the sound of the street pro better. Thanks for the feedback. 👍🏻

Love that car! Sounds good. Need to cruise together some this summer
Thanks! Let's get together!
The options in the car were considered to be high options back in 78. Nice car.
Thanks!!
Beautiful car, and it sounds amazing 👏
Thank you!!

Usually have to put resonators at the most rear of the exhaust to quell droning. Vibrant industries stainless resonators do big noise reduction.
Thanks. I appreciate that.
Return of the Brown Bandit!

Do you have sound deadening material under the carpet? dynamat- really nice car👍
Ya I did put dynamat on the floors. Thanks.
Is the whole exhaust from Pypes, including the TA chrome tips?
Yes the tips are Pypes also. Thanks.

Thanks.
Nice car
Thank you!!
Did the new mufflers resolve the drone issue? If so, which model are they?
The drone is not near as bad as it was. It is a big improvement.
Race Pro from Pypes is what was purchased and recommended from Pypes. Thanks.
Lucky to have found that one ! How much did u have to spend? I know they are going up in price..
I got around 25k in it. With me doing all of the work. Thanks.
@@crosscreekclassics3595 wow good for you ! Love it
