I was diagnosed with Lipedema a few years ago and have been told by dozens of doctors, nothing would work for me. I felt hopeless, helpless and almost gave up on the thought to ever lose weight. But Keto changed my life completely. I lost 30kg so far, Im healthier, mentally stable. And the moment he mentioned that Lipedema patients get told they wont be able to do anything I couldnt hold back tears. But out of happiness. Being happy about me finding my way, by myself. Because a lot of doctors dont know shit about nutrition. Im so thankful for everyone who works on spreading the word.

This info has been around for 30+ years now, with study after study to back it up. WHY do doctors keep beating the "exercise and count calories" drum? I saw my doctor a few months ago for an ear infection and he noticed I'd lost 35 lbs since my last visit, at which time he gave me the old "low fat, low calorie, get more exercise" lecture. He complimented me on "finally" sticking to his advice. When I told him I was doing a LCHF keto diet, he got very defensive and angry and accused me of lying! Then said if I was really following that keto "fad" diet, I'd be dead in a year. BTW, that's what he told me would happen if I didn't lose 30 lbs! Looking for a new MD now...

    • @Jefferdaughter
      @Jefferdaughter 5 лет назад +34

If we print out info backed by studies, from sources like D Westman, or give them a copy of the more technical book by Phinney & Volek, some physicans can be trained. If they have a closed mind, and are incapable of learning or critical thinking (medical schools in 99% memorization) , then yes, it is time to find a new physician. After all, we hire them as consultants. They do not own us, nor are they our bosses.

It would be better if you kept with your doctor because your example will help educate him. Think it this way, if you change his mind you could very likely save other people's lives that are being poorly treated for diabetes by this doctor. As you continue to see him year after year, you can ask him about what health bio markers are showing you to have a high risk factor? Ask him if his prediction of your early demise was unfounded.

About GERD (acid reflux): I was on a daily dose of Omeprazole for several years, as prescribed by my primary care physician. I tried to get off it a few times, but if I stopped taking it for more than about 4 days, the GERD would come back with a vengeance. I started Keto and IF 13 months ago and have taken maybe 5 doses of Omeprazole since then (usually only because I "fell off the wagon" and ate too much bread over a weekend or something). Keto and IF have completely resolved all of my acid reflux. It is a miracle!!!

When I see, smell or I'm around bread and sweets I feel nothing but disgust for them and pity for the people who crave them. I never have cravings and my GERD has calmed down immensely. Gaining muscle through strength training has proven to be easier to achieve, as well.

Dr. Noakes had the courage to say he was wrong for promoting high carb diets 'for athletic performance and health', and the grace to apologize. I am on Vegetarian Low Carb diet since November 2017 after being diagnosed with T2 diabetes. Prior to the diagnoses I had feet that hurt like hell, brain fog and memory lapses several times a day. I thought I had dementia / Alzheimers. When diagnosed my HBa1c test showed blood sugar at 65. I refused medications and did my own research. 5 months latter my blood sugar was down to 49. By June it was down to 40, My latest blood sugar result is HBa1c 36. I have also lost weight ( down to 14 stone from 17 1/2 ). My memory is better and although I still get some brain fog it is not any near as bad. My energy levels are also maintained as well unlike when was on low calorie low fat. Such a shame that most doctors are in denial as are the UK body that rules the NHS, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.(NICE) My feet still hurt due to nerve damage, but even that is getting better.

Additionally who, apart from a very limited number of medical professionals worldwide (most of whom have been driven to RUclips to get their message out as the mainstream medical establishment won’t give them a voice and discredits them at every turn), is repeating the “cut the carbs” mantra? GKI was 48 at the start and 1.4 at the finish. 200 pounds day 1 and 194 end of day 3. If you have your patients use the keto tracking device and they are required to send you the report your results will be much better. I started my keto dieting at 235. Have been keto since 2013 and usually weigh 185. I put on some weight during the coronavirus from April to October 2020. I will be back to 185 by Thanksgiving. ALL doctors should teach the real way to eat. Food is medicine! Nutrition is KEY. Im not hungry all the time, I eat one meal a day. Carnivore heavy, low carb. I have lost 85 lbs and I havent felt this good in 25 years! It has changed my life! Im off my allergy meds after 15 years, I dont get sick anymore. I have a theory why other "diets" didnt work for me. Those diets still had high carbs and sugar! Now if I eat something I shouldnt, I feel like shit for a few days after. I get right back on when I couldnt before because I was equally feeling like shit before lol. I have lost all cravings for carbs and sugary foods. I eat til Im full but not too full and Im full for at least 16 hrs and my stomach starts growling around 22 hrs but Im not starving to death. I just wished we werent lied to for the last 60 years and many of us are so brainwashed by the pharma and food industry that when I tell people I dont eat potatoes, noodles, cereals etc anymore, they look at me like I have 3 heads lol I know people who still think butter will kill them while cooking their food in veg oil.. ugh. @@wizardofraw - Having listened to nearly every presentation by Dr. Westman on RUclips, what we heard over and over was all the medication he has been able to get his patients off. He also states that medication and surgery should be done only when the benefits clearly exceed the unwanted effects or possible harm from drugs and/or surgery.
There is not doubt that many drugs are effective. Some even save lives. Some that are very effective in doing what is claimed also create harmful effects, cleverly called 'side-effects'. Statins are a prime example. They are effective at lowering blood lipids, but cause harm in a high percentage of patients (muscle pain, brain 'fog', Type 2 diabetes, etc) - and have been found to prolong life by only about 5 days on average. These are the most profitable drugs of all time, yet D. Westman points out that overall cholesterol, triglycerides, and HDL all improve on a ketogenic diet. Only LDL numbers increase, and though he did not go into the technical reasons here, he did say that on a ketogenic diet this is nothing to worry about.
Other drugs literally save lives every day, especially for those in crisis. Antibiotics are one example.
He is aware that many of the studies and drug trials are poorly designed. Yet in spite of the flaws of the system (mostly due to clear conflicts of interest and massive lobbying and bribes from drug companies), Westman points out that the properly formulated ketogenic diet has passed the level of proof required by the FDA. This is what most physicians, and many members of the public, need to hear to have confidence in the diet. And to defend prescribing or following this diet.
This was done - without the shenannigans played by the drug companies, which do things like remove people from drug trials who have adverse reactions in a 'run-up' period prior to when they then claim the study actually started - so that they can avoid reporting those adverse reactions.
Dr. Westman seems to believe in the original intent of the FDA and the practice of medicine as a caring profession. He is not unaware that proit often corrupts these intentions, but he chose to leave the beaten path an risk ridicule and damage to his career and livelihood by investigating the Atkins diet and leaning about, studying, and prescribing a ketogenic diet. If he has refrained from throwing the baby out with the bathwater, it has helped him to help literally thousands of people.

Also, the foods on page 4 are pushing high fat animal products, which are nutrient dense and easily absorbed.

Because even if you are showing ketones in breath or urine, doesn't meant you are in ketosis, could be your MCT oil shot.
You will also show ketones, if you are having huge amounts of FAt with carbs ,so fat percentage has helped me understand, it also helps in knowing , whether we are eating too much fat hence burning the same fat we are eating and not burning some of our own

Maybe your are just a 2nd hand vegan. :-)
Interestingly, ruminant animals on their natural diets INGESST a high fiber diet, mostly structural carbohydrates with low amounts of soluble carbs, but they DIGEST a high fat diet - cattle, sheep, deer, elk, bison, goats, antelope, caribou, etc.
This plant matter is digested by the microbes in their huge and complicated G.I. tracts, with the aid of the animals regurgitating, re-chewing, and re-swallowing it, for hours and hours each day. The microbes that digest the plants make short chain fatty acids - which supply these animals with the majority of their energy needs.
Similarly, most of the protein needs of these animals is provided by microbial protein- the bodies of these microbes, many (most?) that are classified as animals. Interesting, eh?

    • @Jefferdaughter
      @Jefferdaughter 5 лет назад

Some will claim that the meat you eat contains carbs, from the glycogen in the muscles. However, this is likely converted to lactic acid soon after the animal is harvested. You may have more info about that.
The diet Dr. Westman has prescribed to his patients was considered so radical at the time, and still is by many. The fact that he has conducted a couple studies on the ketogenic diet is one of the reasons he has been allowed to continue practicing.

Heart, liver, kidneys etc, you literally don't need to eat any vegetable at all if you consume organ meat in moderation. The problem with veggies is that they are all artificial, especially broccoli, kale, brussel sprouts etc, they are not natural at all! Fruits? They are like candies... So you can not trust on vegetables and fruits. Eat only grass-fed/finished meat and suddenly you feel good, when you feel good it means that your gut is happy which means that everything is okay in your body, you feel alive and energetic generally. Start consuming vegies, suddenly it goes down a bit.

Experts argue whether sugar and starch - which is just sugar molecules hooked together - are truly addictive, or people just act like they are... Either way, it is best to not continue the urge for these foods with substitutes.
We can wrap meats and cheeses, etc in leaves of lettuce, grape leaves, or steamed cabbage leaves. We can make pizza with no crust at all. In a shallow pan or dish, the melted cheese can become the base of the pizza, to name just a couple ideas.
On the other hand - you are so right: if we are going to give in to the urge to 'cheat', VLC alternatives are better than harming ourselves with high sugar and/or high starch foods!

Are people stupid? Keto isn't MAGIC. Ffs. You can gain weight on keto, you can lose weight on keto. You can gain weight eating carbs, you can lose weight eating carbs. Pick whichever one you like and ensure you're in a caloric deficit.
If you're in keto and cutting an entire macro (carbs) of course you're gonna be in a deficit. You're also gonna be less hungry due to the natural hunger suppressing qualities of keto.
It's calories in calories out! I've lost weight doing keto, fasting, , meat only, HFLC, HCLF. They all work. Pick the one that you can stick to the best and it will work. Can't beat the laws of thermodynamics.
Disclaimer: this is for fat loss I'm talking about. Using this for lower inflammation is gonna have its own benefits but I'm not talking about that.

High LDL is more about the size and density of the molecules. Light, large, and fluffy LDL particles are not harmful to arteries and do not cause inflammation. Small, hard and dense LDL particles on the other hand, will greatly contribute to inflammation and arterial damage.. ♥

Yeah. I thought about that, thinking about Dr. Westman's safety, too.

Does anyone have a link to the list of foods? Healclinics.com is defunct. Thanks!

Lol, "a little bit won't hurt." That's the story of every smoker who ever quit, then tried one years latter. They soon have another, and then another...I think that is the nature of addiction, whether it is sugar or nicotine, or other substances that give immediate pleasure, but eventually destroy us. The urge interferes with the logic even though we know it is killing us. Behavior management feels like a mountain that's too high to climb, but when you reach the top, looking back you discover it was only a hill and you feel so much better than when you started. The danger then, is thinking that it was easy, and "a little bit won't hurt."...

I am really wishing I had spent the $ to watch this Denver conference... or just have gone.

Go to dietdoctor.com and join! They livestreamed the entire conference at no added cost to DD members, and the videos are there now, also for members.

As I understand it, Dr. Atkins had hypertension and congestive heart failure. Am I wrong? I'm not anti-keto at all, but the foregoing is a criticism of Atkins.

I have always heard that same rumor, but this Dr knew him personally I'm glad he set the record straight.

atkins had a genetic condition, so its possible his diet actually kept him alive longer than if he was eating carbs, maybe
