  • Update on the Ford Mondeo mk4.....
Unfortunately engine failed, and was uneconomical to repair.
    As a replacement I obtained a 2011 Mondeo mk4.5 - Facelift

The 2.0 is much more reliable so hopefully it'll last longer for you

Paul, sorry to hear your Mondeo died, did you take the mirrors and radio off the car before you scrapped it? Need those parts for my own car

Yes stripped it for spares, Wing mirrors and satnav has already been sold.

Shame that the engine gave up. I believe yours was a Titanium variant? I have a Zetec and nearing 125k miles, so not much but kinda giving me the nerves little bit. Have done the Timing belt, water pump and auxiliary belt. Clutch and DMF is also replaced. Worrying part could be the corrosion and suspension components now.
Could you please elaborate on what was your mileage at the time the engine gave up? Was it a 2.0 or 2.2 TDCi? Would appreciate more details about what caused the issue. I go with V-Power Diesel every fill-up so expecting the car to last longer mechanically.

It was originally the Mondeo Edge Variant - Of which I upgraded with Titanium interior, wheels, front grilles and more. Engine was a 1.8 TDCI and done 149K it appears oil pump may have failed resulting in low oil pressure, destroying turbo and bottom end. As for corrosion, body was clean, but keep an eye on rear sub frame. They do suffer from corrosion, especially rear suspension control arms, they rot out where coil springs seats into.

Thank you for the info.. The boat has sailed for me unfortunately regarding the corrosion as I have it on my advisory for both front and rear subframe as well as the coil springs for a 2 years. Money has gone elsewhere as mentioned above.
Otherwise I am very happy with my Mondeo. Will be 6 years with me this September. Very reliable and have covered 50k miles in my ownership.

Forgot to mention I have to diagnose a metallic groan under load, this is happening since I replaced the clutch and DMF. It has been happening for 20k miles and the garage was unable to find a root cause. Closest I have come is on Talk Ford forum where it was related to the started motor for that owner. My starter motor is fine as it cranks quickly.
