      I traded up for a Panamera 4S that was pretty much fully loaded and got it for a steal... The new one is expected out next year and I'm looking at the GTS. I have never really had an issue with oil and service, tune ups are the usual and not very expensive, especially if you have a local mechanic.

    Thanks a lot for that vid... Checked the used A7s, checked the Panamera. Panamera drives more sporty and the interior quality ain't even remotely comparable. I went for a used 2013 Panamera 4 with full leather interior and a few fancy options and, yes, this is affordable luxury : )

    Great video. Bought a 2014 Panamera with 33k miles orig sticker was $111k for $45k. Car had 1 year left on CPO warranty. Every option available on this vehicle. I’m glad I bought the car. Car gets a lot of attention and the car is a beast on the road. When I’m on the fast lane everyone moves to right. I feel like a bully. Also easy maintenance with my local German auto vehicle specialist for the basic stuff like oil changes, brakes etc. I highly recommend one of these cars.

    The white elephant in the room when you talk about "affordable" luxury is upkeep costs. Porsches nor Audis aren't exactly reasonable to maintain, and several a poor soul has been lured into the used German market only to find they couldn't afford the upkeep.
    While certainly appealing cars, by no stretch of the imagination are they affordable.

    • @ssllhh100
      @ssllhh100 9 лет назад +16

      when i see coments like this i think we are in the seventees , what does a car need more than fuel oil change and filters ? for the first three years of its life you don't need anything more than that , after that a set of tyers and pads , and when the car have 80-100k its time to change the car , well if you keep it you have to change the belt and water pump , nothing too complicated either , today's cars are very reliable

    • @quintessenceSL
      @quintessenceSL 9 лет назад +2

      ssllhh100
      Well, if I were spending the $100,000 to buy the car new, I suppose you'd have a point about the first three years. Considering this is specifically about buying used, the only ones near $50,000 are of the 2011 vintage. A bit past the mark.
      Speaking of the 70s, if you have little faith in a car past 100,000 miles, that doesn't speak well for its reliability now does it?
      But don't take my word for it.
      www.autoblog.com/buy/2015-Porsche-Panamera/reliability/
      I expect more than mediocrity for a car that cost $100,000 new.

    • @Ryukachoo
      @Ryukachoo 9 лет назад +10

      ssllhh100 you clearly have not owned a german car of the past decade. back in the early 2000s you could at least DIY most of it, but modern computer systems are extremely hands-off unless you have a $10,000 porsche brand diagnostic machine or whatever the hell. these cars are being engineered to be dealer-dependent and dealers will DESTROY your wallet for the simplest things

    • @ssllhh100
      @ssllhh100 9 лет назад +4

      ***** yes for a daily driver i don't let my cars get over the 100k mark because i daily them , i want them to be depandable , with near to zero problem chance , so yes 100k is as far as it gets for a daily
      while you're right on the fact that 50k luxury used one will be a 12 or 13 you care more about the milage , don't take one with more than 50k miles and you're good to go for 2 or three years depending on your yearly milage
      and i'm not saying that the car will not be reliable after 100k , the car will be reliable but not as cost effective as you may want it to so get rid of it and keep you hands clean

    • @ssllhh100
      @ssllhh100 9 лет назад +1

      Ryukachoo what are you talking about ??? for VAG buy a VAGCOM for a couple hunderd bux and you're good to go , i have had a lot of german cars along the years and all of them had no problems at all , because i know how to maintain my cars , more frequent oil changes is the key , if the dealer tell you you need to change oil a 15k do it at 10k that's all , we had a 87 golf that got over 800k miles when sold and you know what , it never stopped for a single day , if you take care of your car it will never let you down

    I know this video is a few years old. But first, I love you guys, and watch you on MotorTrend cable network too. But the trend in most reviews from everyone these days is performance and handling. How about ride comfort when you have to spend a lot of time in the car or doing at least your daily minimum RT hour in the car. The Panamera’s air suspension can give you an extra 1 in/25 mm ride height which should help smooth out bumps potholes expansion joints. It’ll also give you enough height not to scrape the bottom over speedbump‘s or driveways. In comfort mode what might you compare the Panamera to? It is a four-door which means we’re getting it because we have to put people in it - and passengers care more about comfort than they do the driver’s experience !behind the wheel. Motor trend network should put you in the primetime lineup!

    In Montreal, even high mileage Panameras from 2010 are 62000 + tax, where as a similar A7 (2012+), even with low mileage, can be had for 40-50k. They're not similarly priced here at all, but the Audi looks so much sexier. For that price though, you could get a 1 year old Equus and experience real luxury, without the sexiness.

      The downside of the M-cars is that the engine is more of a race car power plant than a daily working horse. Taking around 100hp out of 1 litre without a turbo or a supercharger is Ferrari class stuff. Meaning you do engine maintenance every 7000ml and it's around 3 times more expensive than any other BMW-model maintenance. And it's just oil change, filters and plugs. I've always wanted a BMW e39 M5 and could easily buy one. But a fact is that I cannot afford to keep one maintenanced. If I want to do anything else with my extra money that is.

    I agree with the people below. It is NOT an "affordable" car. Even in the countries that sells it the cheapest. Maintenance and tax of it doesn't even qualify it as "affordable". It's a Porsche. In most other countries they cost twice the price or more. No one sees you in this car and say , "Nice affordable car"! The price of it new rivals a Ferrari F360. And Ferraris aren't "affordable cars". A used boxster would be an "affordable car". This is high end ! Even porsche calls it an "executive".

    At fifty grand, I start looking around and thinking, aw man, I coulda had an A8. For that much money you can buy an older one (1st gen/D2) and slap the six speed manual into it, then induct up to 450 hp if that's your thing. But since you opened this by mentioning the family car, I think D3 brakes and an S8 rear sway ought to about cover it. Maybe some Bilsteins if it doesn't come with the air ride.

    • @decodeddiesel
      @decodeddiesel 5 лет назад

      3 years later, tell me all about the A8 you "slapped a six speed manual into and inducted (WTF ever that means lol) to 450 hp". I'm sure you've got a video or two of it. I mean swapping transmissions in new Audis is pretty fucking complex and costly, so I'm sure you want to flex that shit on YT. No? You are just some bitch who reads too many magazines.

Yes the maintenance on them is also expensive but again if you can afford the car comfortably then you should be able to afford the maintenance. That's what it truly means to be affordable, and again many people fit this bill.

    Sure it's only $50,000 to buy. But like all cars like this, it's another $300/month for insurance and every time you take it to the garage it's another $2000. Hardly, what anyone would consider affordable.

    I shopped for a used Panamera. First issue: Seats are too small and hard. I'm not a jumbo(6-5, 220 lbs.), but I need more room. Second: Backseat isn't as roomy as you'd think for a car almost as big as a Chevy Impala. The power(twin-turbo V-8) was intoxicating and really the main selling point.

    A few points..first time I have seen a video from you where you didn't seem like you were having "fun"...even the most mundane cars until now you had a grin on your face..not so much with the Porsche..it was as if you were trying to say something nice when you didn't want to...second...personally the Audi to me has it all over the Porsche...just love the overall shape of the A7 and iits probably the sexiest looking car on the market...third...4K pounds doesn't seem to be that heavy considering the weight of the other cars now adays....always enjoy your videos but I didn't think this was one of your better ones.

    What you have to realize when buying an expensive used car are the parts are still for an expensive new car. So if you bought the car for half the MSRP, the parts are still full price MSRP. I bought a new 2012 4s, $1000 yearly service/oil change, $500 air cleaner as the bumper must be removed, $15,000 air shock repair, $3000 radiator repair, etc. Am expensive vehicle is always expensive. Better to buy new with warranty or cert used with extended warranty. My other car is a Tesla Model X, expensive but essentially no maintenance. Electric is the future. Gas cars too complicated with too many moving parts. This is my 5th Porsche. May have to see the Taycan.

    You guys said the CTS-V cost too much for you to review on your show, and then you review these two, both of which cost much more than the CTS-V? I expect Paul to snub the CTS-V in favor of Porsches, but I expect better from Todd. I mean you were even saying the CTS-V was too expensive to review while you were reviewing the Hellcat, which costs almost the same new as the CTS-V.
    The CTS-V used (and new for that matter) is cheaper than both of these, and faster at the same time, and it's the same class of car. What do you guys have against the CTS-V? I mean this is even called "affordable luxury". Meanwhile you can get a CTS-V as a coupe, a sedan or a wagon, with an automatic or a manual transmission, all for less money than either of these, and the CTS-V wagon is faster than the Panamera TURBO in a straight line, never mind the Panamera 4 you guys review here.
    I mean unless you actually need AWD, why would you even bother looking at these when you can get a CTS-V for less money? And why hasn't that occurred to you guys yet? And for that matter you can even get a regular CTS with AWD for MUCH less money, and it has the same 320-ish HP as these two do. But the point is really that the CTS-V used easily comes in under that $50k mark you mentioned, it's a MUCH higher performance car than these two are, and it does it in more body styles and with more transmission choices.
    Todd, I'm looking at you, Mr. Manual. what kind of backwards universe is this where you are reviewing a relatively heavy 300 HP automatic Porsche instead of a 556 HP manual CTS-V that costs less money? That's not snow, that's the performance gods crying frosty tears of disappointment.

    • @EverydayDriver

      ib4cx3pt - Our "Everyday Driver" branded reviews generally mean cars available for around 50k or less. The average new car price is now over $30k, but we're not sure who you consider the pricepoint for Everyday Drivers. While this comparison (and the Z28 vs. Hellcat before it) are at the upper end of our discussion, we've driven many cars in the past year available for $30k or less. We hope you'll seek out those reviews, and if you have a specific request, we welcome it. Meanwhile, our "Car Debate" podcast discusses cars at all budget levels, most often budgets of $20k and below. We'd love to have you listening!

    I will never like the Panamera, no matter how hard i try. The rear still looks like a humpback whale. Porsche made and still makes beautiful cars, but this is an exeption. Not a family car though. That's kind of the point of this: they have become affordable cars for family duty. I totally agree that if I was after a sports car for that price there are better choices, but for hauling kids at speed? Could do much worse than a Panamara or A7. When I got my S4 it was because those back two seats and doors were far more valuable to me than the extra fun I'd have gotten getting an E92 M3 or S5 or similar.

    Most German cars, except for the rare, special model high-performance editions, will depreciate rapidly because you have to maintain them. That's where you get hosed. Then you have to live with a butt-ugly Panamera or an A7, which is not that much prettier. Sorry, but no cigar.

      Veyronp87 - Based on your earlier comment... We're sensing you'd like us to review the CTS-V. ;-) You are absolutely right that the Caddy applies here, as do many other cars that are in that 70-100k range and have now dropped below 50. We chose these two because they are so incredibly similar in size, stats, and form factor, plus they are both AWD. This was intended as a fully snowed-in review (CTS-V would not have been ideal or similar enough). But by the time we shot it was little snow and bitter, bitter cold. Having said that, we'd love to review the CTS-V wagon and hope to do so. Unfortunately most of the ones we've found have been tuned into even bigger monsters. So... we are looking into ways to start including tuned cars on our channel. Lots going on behind the scenes and we look forward to sharing. Thanks for being with us, and we appreciate the comments!

    • @jjuhring1
      @jjuhring1 9 лет назад

      Have to agree in part with Man. The car is worthy of a 9 minute review, but we don't get enough of the details. Would like more commentary on the nuances such as brake feel, steering input, throttle response, chassis behavior during trail braking, etc... Also more direct comparison commentary to other cars you have reviewed recently and we may be familiar with, such as the Z28, Audi A3, or even the GTR. As unlikely as it seems, I could see a person cross shopping a used GTR and Panamera, and on a test drive it is rare to explore the limits.
