Fantastic Review. I just wish I saw this before I bought my Panamera Turbo. First week of ownership, my coolant pipe essentially detached while I was driving on the highway. All the coolant leaked out and engine overheated. Searched for this issue online, apparently it's a very common issue in not only the Panamera, but also Cayennes. Needs new thermostat, thermostat housing, and coolant lines. 3.5k. Fast forward a year, the air suspension failed in the front. The car was sitting on the struts and could not be driven. I took the car to my independent mechanic to be fixed. I thought I'd save some money with re manufactured struts. Do NOT EVER buy re manufactured struts. Long story short, the reman struts were defective and caused a short in my car's electrical system. After 5 months of diagnosis and repairs at my indy, the car is finally working. I replaced 2 front air struts, air compressor, control module, value block, suspension senors, and fuses, all OEM. The total cost? 9k at an indy shop. Oh and I forgot to mention. Look up this issue, error message "chassis system failure. It's littered across the internet. Air suspension failure is inevitable in these cars. The original parts were not made to last. Porsche updated their air struts parts 3 times since the first model year. Do I love driving this car? Sure, while it works. Is it worth the 15k I have in repair bills in under 2 years? That's food for thought for anyone thinking of picking up one of these used cars for cheap. Oh and btw, my car had 35k miles, was never in a prior accident, and had been warrantied throughout its life by the last owner.
Wow, sorry to hear that man. They are great cars...until it's repair time. Did the last owner take care of it properly? I looked at one a while back but honestly from all the forums I read I stayed far away.
wei yan damn as much as I love these cars I’m not buying one anymore I just wanted the v6 I didn’t give a damn about going super fast I don’t think it’s worth the headache I’m going to buy another Lexus you can’t beat their reliability you won’t get that much curbside pussy but I’ll have more money for my swagger and pimp palace.
I bought a Porsche Panamera Turbo about 18 months ago. It had 44k miles on it. The car was beautiful and the maintenance records from the dealer looked good. I thought it was smart to purchased an extended car warranty from CarShield for $6,300 for good measures. It was an absolute false sense of security. Horrible mistake. 3 months later the cam adjusters on the engine self-destructed. The Porsche dealer said it will cost $4,200 to repair them. I happily called CarShield thinking "good thing I got that policy." Them m!&f!#s denied the claim. OMG! They said they don't cover anything that associated with broken bolts even if it was a covered part. What??! I had to fix it out of pocket. 2 weeks later the Coolant sensor went out. A $900 repair. Them "blankety blanks" denied that too. In essence, NOTHING is covered, because the fine print gives them the right to deny just about anything. You can't even sue them! That's in the fine print too! Happy to say I cancelled the policy. Fortunately, 1 month later Porsche initiated a recall on that part and will refund my money. Other than that, I've had no other problems and I still love this car. It cost $3200 if Porsche replace your brakes. I did it myself for $300. Oil change cost $400. I did it myself for $75. Overall I would say the Panamera Turbo is a great car. It's definitely a crowd pleaser. You can't even go to a gas station without getting complemented. Just be aware that maintenance is extremely high unless you can do most of it yourself. And good luck finding a extended warranty company that won't rob you and will actually approve your claim when you file one.
Well it's a very expensive car so you still need a lot of money to afford the maintenance. Other than the insurance fraud it turned out well for you. I appreciate Porsche made a recall.
Exactly if anything BMW will give you some problems before Porsche will. In all do respect foreign or American made vehicles will eventually experience some kind of issue(s) but real talk test drive the heck of it before you buy why it's call test drive do it over and over again then we'll at least you know what the use vehicle can do. Oh yeah don't be afraid take it to the dealership have them do end to end inspection just don't see in a couple of months all these crazy BS folks talking.
Just last week a used car salesman was showing me a 2013 Panamera 4S - 123,000 km done. I didn't drive it, but he was going on and on as to how great the car is. Showed me the air suspension as well. He is selling it for $31,000 ... The interior is quite good, no doubt, but the cost of maintenance will be beyond my budget. Hence, I walked away from it. Your video just confirmed my decision. Thank you Very much.
I bought a 2011 Panamera 4 in May 2017. In nearly 3 years of ownership, it has been very disappointing. The first problem was the window switch. It flew off and I had to tear apart the door panel to replace it. Then the oil pressure regulator valve went bad about 5 months after I bought it. That was almost $800 to repair. Fortunately, I don't recall any repairs in 2018. I bought the car with about 86k miles on it. Today, it has 155k miles. In that span, it has cost me over $7k in repairs and I have more to do. In all fairness, some of the repairs are routine maintenance. Some of the expenses include (approximate): $1100 - ignition coil and oil pressure valve $600 - second key and diagnosis $960 - diagnosis and two front tires (not to mention a 140 mile tow bill because the car doesn't have a spare tire $350 - door lock actuators (replaced 3 of the 4) (eBay parts) $160 - blower motor (Porsche quote $600, I did the work myself with a part from eBay) $2200 - front brakes $420 - rear tires (bought slightly used tires from eBay to save about $600) $489 - bought part for driveshaft support (center support bearing is a common problem) $256 - transmission oil pan to fix leak (just the parts) I haven't had the driveshaft support part or the transmission oil pan installed yet. Expecting about $500-$1k to get those two things done. Many of these parts are those I searched for on eBay or elsewhere to save money. I've done a LOT of work myself wherever I could. Doing these things have saved me, literally, many thousands of dollars. For example, I've been quoted $1800 to replace the transmission oil pan and about $2500 to replace the driveshaft. As you can see, the parts are FAR cheaper and the labor is really not that intense. And then there is today. Had my check engine light checked out and it looks like I need a thermostat. I was quoted almost $1k for that. Then there is a faulty TPMS sensor and air bag light. Porsche quoted me $2200 to replace the passenger seat frame to fix the air bag light. I love the car but I've been nothing but terribly disappointed in the amount of repairs that it has required. It's not me. Do research on these problems and you'll find that they are common for the Panamera. Oh. I didn't even mention the front end assembly. That's about $5k repair and most people seem to be like me and just live with the crunching noise in cold weather. It sounds like the car is going to fall apart when you go over a speed bump. For $100k car, I expect a much more reliable car. I'm extremely disappointed.
Something seriously over looked here is the depreciation of this type of car. I bought one, then had some problems with it and asked Porsche to buy it back from me. (the suspension broke plus I had some minor panel beating issues which were self inflicted.) The money they offered (after all repairs were done and paid for) was 55% of what I had paid them 15 months earlier... In other words the car depreciated by 45% in 15 months. Mechanical issues can be overcome by buying the car with a Porsche motorplan but the depreciation issue is not avoidable . So be warned
BTW All the pre-facelift Panamera 3.6 V6/ 4.8 V8 / Turbo/ Turbo S motors are based on the same block. Oil Consumption is same. The ticking noise/ Engine failure is not from burning oil. The cam bolts fail and can snap will blow that shit up. US cars have a recall for all Panamera and Cayenne with these motor
Best way to buy any foreign high performance vehicles is from a desler as a certified pre owned and usually get a 2 year warranty- costs more but you can’t afford to fix these cars otherwise. Wife just bought a 2014 porsche panamera turbo s executive with 60k miles for $67k with two year unlimited mileage warranty . Beautiful car and fast as hell
I bought a first gen with 33k miles, the vin isn’t part of the recall so I’m hoping the motor is good! It did not have the ceramic breaks, thanks for the heads up on those costs. Your review is entertaining and informative, keep up the great work!
I'm glad I watched this. I just discovered Porsche stopped putting the naturally aspirated V8 engine in the Panamera GTS so if I want one now I will have to buy used. They were all bought up by Porsche enthusiasts in 2016 and I can't even find one for sale in Canada. The NA V8's have the best exhaust note of all the Panameras' and for the cost and trouble of owning this car, it should sound really good too.
If you really care about exhaust notes, I'd recommend you to look at 981 and 991.1 generation instead! Unless you dislike high screaming sound and prefer low grumbling sound (which I mean is very valid although I never understood why ppl liked the sound of being more similar to a tractor)
Never knew Porsche enthusiasts even cared about the panamera. The typical criticism is "Panamera is not a real Porsche!" Glad to see them receiving some love in your area. I'm in Toronto myself, plenty of v8 panamera going around. Mostly bought out by international students and immigrants and rest by actual executives or entrepreneurs.
Same for the 2010 4S. I got lucky and got one for a good price and the guy selling it had already gotten two hits within 20 minutes of posting on Cargurus . Porsche screwed itself by going with that turbo V6 BS on the newer models. Turbo or not, you cant justify paying all of that money for a V6.
@@daveh9551 same thing I said . Question how do u know if it has the air suspension? Man I really want one of these cars but I know the possible issues with the v8 but it’s like if I get the v6 I feel like I’m cheating myself
For Americans (like myself) that are thinking there were no Panameras with a manual, they manufactured base model V6 Panameras for the European market with manuals. The PDK transmission MUST be serviced regularly as it is prone to failure if not properly serviced. You also forgot to mention the Burmester sound system, which is the actual premium option for the audio system.
I owned a 911 991.1 and when doing my research, I asked the sales person about reliability, he answered: No problems, since it has 50 years heritage, but other Porches don’t have that
I use to own a 2013 panamera gts it’s great when it’s running I’ll say that! I ended up selling mine overall good car just make sure you can afford the maintenance
My 2011 Cayenne s hybrid and Panamera had coolant pipes burst and the repair bill by my independent mechanic was $7,500. People, you've been warned. I also had these issues in my 2003 Cayenne turbo. Same headaches and high repair bill's.
I have the 2012 Panamera S Hybrid. I bought it used from a Porsche dealership. I keep having the Hybrid System Failure code come on and go off since I've had it. I replaced the regular battery within a month of purchasing it. I spent $1000 with the battery and reprogramming. I keep taking it back and they keep saying they don't know why it's happening. Do you have any clue. Also my engine had to be taken out because of the rear engine oil seal was leaking. Porsche of North America covered the cost. I love the car but I hate these problems and don't feel 100% confident about it. It drives amazing.
bought my 2011 Panamera S with 37K, have 41K now and the car is great. I did make sure Porsche had all the recalls done before they sent it my way. This car drives great and is a beast in a corner. Oh and the sound system will make your ears bleed. If you get this for 30K or less with low miles... and you are a family of 4..... DO IT!!!!!!
Thank you for the risky advices, this is the problem with modern cars, you need a solid bank account, a Scientist from nasa, a Dr (for stress) , a tow truck... part of the package. Anyway thanks, you save me a lot of money by avoiding this car.
Thank you for taking the time to do an informative review. If taking one to an independent shop how much can one expect to pay to get a second opinion before buying?
They 989 from ‘91 ....not bad looking. They should have released it then....Porsche needed cash bad back then...they Cayenne saved them and the Panamera if sold back then ...would have help as well.
@@Shockload I had the white one for over a year now I got the same in black. Well, driving is fun ofc. but the repair or guarantee is a lil expensive at all compred to other cars. You will have with any car fur for 1-2 months. the. its just a normal car to you.
nice video , one point missing:) do you mean that 2011 Pertol engine 6v 3.6l is better than 3.0l diesel ? would be great to know your opinion .thanks again for nice video
Bose is not standard my friend. I have a 2015 GTS Priced at 130,000 and Bose was not even in it even with all that money for the car. I am currently looking for an option to upgrade the stereo system now because of it.
Wow, I thought BMW engines had oil leak problems. Porsche is possibly worst. LOL my BMW valve cover leak at around 50,000 miles. I guess my Lexus is the only car that never leaked oil and nothing broke on it even at 320,000 miles. Just the normal wear and tear. Yes, that's not a typo..320,000 miles. NOTE: It did start burning oil around the 300,000 mark.
I know this is an old video BUT never ever ever buy a used Porsche without a warranty.. ever seriously. Repairs for the most "minor" issue will exceed your expectations. Second, make sure you go over the car very carefully, check every button, every electric component (multiple times) and ask for a maintenance report from the car logs as well as receipts for work done at a Porsche service center. I'd consider ANY repairs done outside of that to be questionable at best.
It’s really sad when you shop shop shop for a great low maintenance car that’s fairly dependable and relatively cheap to maintain, and your still stuck having to keep looking and looking and looking 😝
Not that you asked me, but. All panameras (all engines) from 2009-2014 have a defective thermostat housing, where the coolant tubes were sealed with an epoxy and no other form of clamp. Over time, they begin to erode and cause a major coolant leak that can blow the engine, and if it doesn’t is not a cheap fix. The cool thing, in 2015 Porsche released a new housing with a flange and bolt fixing the issue and it is unsurprisingly retorfittable. So, when you are looking for one try to find out if that’s been done, if not, you can do it yourself for under $500 in parts and likely not too much more from a mechanic. The other issue are the crankshaft bolts of 2009-2011 I believe, and Porsche has a recall on ALL models. I’ve also heard that if the engine is blown due to the crank shaft bolts shearing Porsche will replace the engine ymmv. Ultimately an ounce of prevention is worth literally thousands in cure (repair). Also, being a Porsche, those CPOS are fantastic.
@@dominic7114bruh u went too far back, 2000s Mercedes was pure muscle cars with the M113K 500HP 5.4L Supercharged V8 in the 2003 E55, SL55, CL55... there's also the M156 6.2L NA 520HP V8 in the 2007 C63, CLK63, E63, SL63, CL63... Literally every Mercedes AMG from the 2000s was pure muscles until they moved to their tiny 4L Biturbo V8s ....
Im looking to buy the 2018 model with under 10k on it . . Either 4s or turbo if I can find one with a pre certified warranty that doesn't cost and arm and a leg lol . . I cant deal with the stress if maintenence. . . I want to 2 year warranty and also the additional 2 years porshe offers . . Any suggestions
All vehicles will have a lemon or unfortunate system failures, Porsche if you read reviews on Edmunds etc. from long time owners you’ll see that Lexus and Porsche are equally reliable. Just because one car from a giving brands has a break down does not mean the entire brand is garbage. I’ve owned most German cars over the last 20yrs and maintaining your cars maintenance makes the difference between reliability and catastrophe.
different car review the carbon brakes will last for over 100,000 miles with normal use so the cost is not an issue. The price quoted is also to replace the discs which almost never need to be replaced, the carbon pads are about $1500 front and rear.
chuckback73 lol dude no... For about 100,000 miles you'll spend $3000 on brake pads... The brembo pads are start at $267 and you can go higher... The OP was very wrong.. even the rotors for this car are $600 for front and $300 for back.. idk where he got 20K from.
There are full coil over replacement kits with error modles that you can use if you want to replace the suspension with natural support system. cost you around 2K
Thank you for your informative and useful review about 970 Porsche Panamera. After this video, I purchased a 2011 Panamera Turbo with Porsche factory power upgrade (540 hp) and I just loved the car! Hope to have some years without any negative surprises....I did checked the car as you recommended. Question: the Nikasil cylinder coating was only made for the S and 4S models? How about Turbo models? Best regards
It of course depends mainly on the actual condition of the car, I don't know the price for the tax and insurance, however you should be prepared for the maintance costs, so have at least 4 000-5 000 € for the additional repairs, becuase you never know what can go wrong. 15 000 / 20 000 km a year is not much, however you have to change the oil twice, then after buying you have to change all the fluids, maybe brakes, maybe tires and so on.
Moritz Cedric I love this car too but if you are already worried about running costs then you can't afford it, thats why I don't have one, even though I would love too.
It’s a damn shame these cars don’t last but it makes sense, I mean when you think about it the average rich guy is not going to keep this car past 2 years so in a way it does make sense they’re just robbing rich people with an inferior product masking it in a beautiful package rich people are not looking up the reliability of this car us poor people are lmao it’s unfair it’s unfair tears 😭 tears 😭
Anybody here own a ... 2014 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid would love to hear your thoughts.. pros and cons .. seem to be able to pick them up at a good price now used. I've never owned a Hybrid before and drive a Panamera 4S 2010 now..it's been great !..but would like to upgrade. thank you for your thoughts...wondering if I should stay away from the 1 gen
I've been eyeing a Panamera for a while now and since you own one does it hurt your pockets? Seeing at how much they depreciate I am worried about spending bucks on keeping it running than actually buying groceries. I need someone elses point of view if you don't mind...
You have to be nuts to buy this car used without a warranty. It is a money pit and no aftermarket warranty will cover you. You are better off buying a new car with a full warranty.
i am planning to purchase Porsche Panamera Turbo S 2013 with 4000 km, i am just worry about the engine, does the turbo S also include with the engine problem , what do u think of the choice ?
What is the name of the porsche v8 engine that has the common problem the reviewer mentions? So i can stay away from them. Unless he is talking about all porsche v8 engines or a certain year?
All Panamera motors are based on the same block except the newer turbo V6/TDI. They all have the same issues. FYI. The 3.6 V6 is the same engine as the 4.8 V8 with 2 less cylinders.

Some of the expenses include (approximate):
$1100 - ignition coil and oil pressure valve
$600 - second key and diagnosis
$960 - diagnosis and two front tires (not to mention a 140 mile tow bill because the car doesn't have a spare tire
$350 - door lock actuators (replaced 3 of the 4) (eBay parts)
$160 - blower motor (Porsche quote $600, I did the work myself with a part from eBay)
$2200 - front brakes
$420 - rear tires (bought slightly used tires from eBay to save about $600)
$489 - bought part for driveshaft support (center support bearing is a common problem)
$256 - transmission oil pan to fix leak (just the parts)
I haven't had the driveshaft support part or the transmission oil pan installed yet.
What do you mean with front end assembly, what needs reparing for that?
Something seriously over looked here is the depreciation of this type of car. I bought one, then had some problems with it and asked Porsche to buy it back from me. (the suspension broke plus I had some minor panel beating issues which were self inflicted.) The money they offered (after all repairs were done and paid for) was 55% of what I had paid them 15 months earlier... In other words the car depreciated by 45% in 15 months. Mechanical issues can be overcome by buying the car with a Porsche motorplan but the depreciation issue is not avoidable . So be warned
what year did you buy? sounds like a newer one??
Wow buying a new luxury car and it depreciates, who knew!
Be surprised how many people dont pay attention to the recalls.
If the prior owner ignored the recall is the problem fixable? Does Porsche have a time limit on the recall?
I'd rather find a way to make the lease payment that covers everything under the sun.
By the time u done u would have paid 3x used panamera
My experience best used Panamera is 2014 facelift 3.6
good reliability and low cost maintainance
Non turbo yes? What about the 3.0t 4s?
@@RK1FX 3.0t not bad but need check always
Two years later, how's it going? I have the same so I'm curious.
Not a common problem but happens more often than you think 😂
I bought a first gen with 33k miles, the vin isn’t part of the recall so I’m hoping the motor is good! It did not have the ceramic breaks, thanks for the heads up on those costs. Your review is entertaining and informative, keep up the great work!
What year do you have?
What year is your car ?
You still driving it?
@@TreFree-n7o no actually, I sold it at 35k miles no problems so never got to explore it fully
The typical criticism is "Panamera is not a real Porsche!"
Glad to see them receiving some love in your area.
I've found a friend who will sell me a 2016 GTS with 42k kms for 70K. Think hard about this since it's hard to get a this model in Toronto
Incase you didn't know, they also made V8 manuals..., 150 stick shift Panameras were made in total, 50 V6 and 96 V8, they're super rare
Thanks for uploading! I liked and subscribed. I am native german speaker and I can understand you very well. Thanks a lot for this helpful video
I owned a 911 991.1 and when doing my research, I asked the sales person about reliability, he answered:
No problems, since it has 50 years heritage, but other Porches don’t have that
On point and succinct very good coverage for those looking to take the dive. thank you!
Love your reviews. You do a fantastic job. the best reviews i have seen.
No doug
I use to own a 2013 panamera gts it’s great when it’s running I’ll say that! I ended up selling mine overall good car just make sure you can afford the maintenance
My 2011 Cayenne s hybrid and Panamera had coolant pipes burst and the repair bill by my independent mechanic was $7,500. People, you've been warned. I also had these issues in my 2003 Cayenne turbo. Same headaches and high repair bill's.
Impossible to not be excited for your new videos
Your information is very beneficial.. I take your guide in purchasing a second car. Really really awesome. Tq bro..
1:46 That guy on the left wished he'd be driving the Panamera, not his electric buggy. Great review, lots of useful tips!
I have my eye on a 2014 porsche panamera 4 with 60k miles on it. Should I buy or avoid
Hi how about the six cylinder versions? you didnt explore that engine for us...
bought my 2011 Panamera S with 37K, have 41K now and the car is great. I did make sure Porsche had all the recalls done before they sent it my way. This car drives great and is a beast in a corner. Oh and the sound system will make your ears bleed. If you get this for 30K or less with low miles... and you are a family of 4..... DO IT!!!!!!

Sticking with the 2015 porsche panamera v6.

If taking one to an independent shop how much can one expect to pay to get a second opinion before buying?
Great video. Keep up the good work.
I thought Porsche engines are bullet proof, why all these issues? Do you recommend hybrid version?
They 989 from ‘91 ....not bad looking. They should have released it then....Porsche needed cash bad back then...they Cayenne saved them and the Panamera if sold back then ...would have help as well.
2012 S Hybrid and 2014 S E-Hybrid, which is better to purchase? and whther it really save gasoline? Thanks.
Nice video. I am buying tomorrow one and I cannot sleep and watching your video..

It IS interesting that just 20 years later Porsche did make a four door sedan after de prototype. I just did t realise it 😮
Bose is the standard, burmester is the upgraded sound system
Bose is not standard my friend. I have a 2015 GTS Priced at 130,000 and Bose was not even in it even with all that money for the car. I am currently looking for an option to upgrade the stereo system now because of it.
nice video, good choice of car, considerin d new Panamera is in the market :) keep going
Firstly get a certified Porsche inspection done prior to purchase and take out a warranty if good to go, otherwise don’t buy, you’ll be broke!!!
Thx really good reviews in your channel
Wow, I thought BMW engines had oil leak problems. Porsche is possibly worst. LOL my BMW valve cover leak at around 50,000 miles. I guess my Lexus is the only car that never leaked oil and nothing broke on it even at 320,000 miles. Just the normal wear and tear. Yes, that's not a typo..320,000 miles. NOTE: It did start burning oil around the 300,000 mark.
Omg. No wonder they drepreciate so much.
No, its a great car. No OMG :-)
Would bringing up cost to maintain be a decent way to get used dealers to offer a better price?
I know this is an old video BUT never ever ever buy a used Porsche without a warranty.. ever seriously. Repairs for the most "minor" issue will exceed your expectations. Second, make sure you go over the car very carefully, check every button, every electric component (multiple times) and ask for a maintenance report from the car logs as well as receipts for work done at a Porsche service center. I'd consider ANY repairs done outside of that to be questionable at best.
It’s really sad when you shop shop shop for a great low maintenance car that’s fairly dependable and relatively cheap to maintain, and your still stuck having to keep looking and looking and looking 😝
well, if you look for cheap and reliable, panamera isn t that xD. Better go with an audi, same quality, less expensive
It’s called a Lexus my people. Your welcome

Great review! great info.
What about Ferrari 612 ?? Are they reliable for daily driving?
I'm planning to buy Panamera turbo 2012 4.8 L !
What do you think about that engine?
Very informative, thanks.

Hi the noise like a baring involve for pdk gearbox it’s normal ?
All vehicles will have a lemon or unfortunate system failures, Porsche if you read reviews on Edmunds etc. from long time owners you’ll see that Lexus and Porsche are equally reliable. Just because one car from a giving brands has a break down does not mean the entire brand is garbage. I’ve owned most German cars over the last 20yrs and maintaining your cars maintenance makes the difference between reliability and catastrophe.
Exactly you can tell who owns and who doesn’t these ppl smh
Did your cousin Niko ever take you bowling?
are you saying it cost around 21,000 US dollars to replace the brakes?
yes, that is the price for carbon-ceramic brakes
different car review the carbon brakes will last for over 100,000 miles with normal use so the cost is not an issue. The price quoted is also to replace the discs which almost never need to be replaced, the carbon pads are about $1500 front and rear.
racekar80 so in 5 to 6 years i will have to spend $21k on brakes? Thats insane!!

chuckback73 lol dude no... For about 100,000 miles you'll spend $3000 on brake pads... The brembo pads are start at $267 and you can go higher... The OP was very wrong.. even the rotors for this car are $600 for front and $300 for back.. idk where he got 20K from.

i really love this car. how much money does it take to maintain this, if you drive 15.000-20.000km/year. maybe 1000k including insurance and tax?
It of course depends mainly on the actual condition of the car, I don't know the price for the tax and insurance, however you should be prepared for the maintance costs, so have at least 4 000-5 000 € for the additional repairs, becuase you never know what can go wrong. 15 000 / 20 000 km a year is not much, however you have to change the oil twice, then after buying you have to change all the fluids, maybe brakes, maybe tires and so on.
