Cool explorations! I'm this matchup, I would offer a fient thrust to the face to get the shield up. It will blind the user and give more openings. Often you can land a short-edge cut over a lifted shield. If you would like to excel more with your strategies, train doing several cuts in a row, or an entry, close attack and a retreating attack.
Sword and shield person should use shield as a main weapon. This is not a dagger, don't hide shield behind the blade, hide blade behind the shield. Parry with the rant and ripost with the blade. Good luck =)
@@weaponisedtwintailscosplay For your side (I think it was you with the longsword, right?), I would have liked to see a lot more thrusts and lateral movement. Working opposite openings around the shield will keep them moving and guessing. Also, keep on your toes more. There were a couple times where stepping heel to toe when closing made you sluggish in retreat. If your step hits with your toe, you can push to step back immediately. Lemme know if any of this advice is helpful, or if you'd like clarification on anything. Enjoy seeing your different match ups. Mixed weapons is really fun.

@Rancorous_Redwood I've had some pretty awful thrusts in the past so have very little confidence in them but I'm working on doing them again!
Cool sparring match.

@zebanon5 Thank you for the suggestions! Thrusts are something I've always been weak on doing. Laterals are next to pin down
why is the long sword using kendo movements? Is that how you're supposed to fight with a long sword?
