Devin isn't a memer. His music is all intensely personal to him and he gets anxious preforming, so he hides it all behind humor and his infectious stage presence. Even this song he explained is about him exploring things he's always wanted to explore (stage music and Broadway musicals) but was too scared to. He's been my favorite musician for years because of how humble he is. He was a pleasure to meet in person, too.
So much more to explore with Devy. Everyone suggests Deadhead due to his amazing screaming. My personal favourite is the trio of Funeral, Bastard and Death of Music live at the Royal Albert Hall. A pure outpouring of emotion from his album Ocean Machine, which is where my love of his music started :)
Thanks for checking out more Devin. Believe it or not - he has produced as much soft and beautiful music, as he has heavy songs. There are many albums that he never leaves that velvety baritone part of his voice. There is also a ton of heavier epic song performances that don't tap into his humor. Fans like myself see and appreciate so many sides of him and his art. We dig the whole package - he's well known for his antics, but during those shows he's the most commanding performer that I've ever seen. The confidence and control of everything, tempered by the humor and silliness. There's a feeling of love and inspiration that flows between him and every person at his shows. I can't think of another performer in the world that could pull it all off at the same time. It doesn't look like Devin is really your cup of tea. But as a fellow vocalist, I would urge you to listen on your own to a few more songs. You can pick almost any genre, and Devin will have done some lovely and/or brutal music in his 30 years and over 30 albums written, recorded, and produced by him.
Did anyone in twitch chat tell you about Quarantine Concert 2, where his camera setup improved with a fan cam, and "headbang cam" (which was a mixer he took out of the kitchen)
There is an even better live version of this song from his Order of Magnitude live DVD, with a full band. Legitimately one of the most hilarious live music performances I've ever seen. It's incredible.
"Devin needs to output" More or less how the the Casualties of Cool project came about - he worked remotely with Ché Aimee Dorval to write the songs and lay some demo tracks as a method of decompressing while on one of his more punishing tours. That is what I call driven.
Indeed. And at the same time working on Deconstruction which is very heavy and concept driven album... Needed an outlet which was completely different.
Scrunching your face helps with the rasp in the voice because it changes the airflow by basically closing the nose and tightening the throat depending on how hard you go.
He's definitely not a memer; he has personality and talent. He's so far beyond memers, he can't see them in his rear view mirror. He also has humility and a great sense of humour. :)
He is incredibly talented and yet seems more humble about it than most. Devin as pretty much always managed to do the music industry his way, which means he hasn't been top of the mind popular for most of his career, which is probably good. It's why much of his music is incredibly powerful and yet very personal. The humor has always been there from the start (including a really funny clip of him much younger joking about men losing their hair... karma worked overtime there!). He's having fun, he's been blessed to be able to do what he does, and you can tell he appreciates every day he can do this. He's a rarity in the music industry.
Lmao!!! Great vid brother. If you can watch “strapping young lad” “love” music video reaction. It’s the same singer, believe me, you will not any bedtime stories from him! He looks very different, but the music is still great, just very heavy and different from this. But this guy can do anything in my book.
Just came from the stream where I got to see Tommy singing Anthem and help introduce you to Diana Ankudinova and then a Devin reaction is waiting for me on youtube. This day vastly improved 😁
I never miss a vid. I subbed after 2 videos. And honestly charlie you deserve a bigger channel. I dont need to explain to everyone why that is and how you are head and shoulders above most reaction channels of this ilk. But yeah. Keep up the good work.
Saw Dev sing Why in February 2020 in Montreal. He stripped down to his underwear, put on a black see through tutu, and pranced around the stage. Dev is an absolute goof.
9:00 I genuinely cannot understand how Devin fry screams _to pitch_ like this. It's like sorcery. Idgi. Fry screaming comfortably is one thing, but it's not normally something you can make into a second singing voice
he has a video where he is out in his backyard....and he puts on a show like he riding a bike and a lot of other funny moves...find and review that....cant think of the song but its out there on youtube.
Lucky Animals (unofficial video). This one spawned a whole lot of jazz hand audience participation at his future concerts. The dad energy is intense. ruclips.net/video/UvmIByrcwAQ/видео.html
Way way way late, but, um here's my completely useless addition to the conversation. I've had a number of close encounters with a cougar... it (sadly) got 4 of our Shetland Sheep this past summer. From experience, I can unequivocally state that cougars are capable of coming CLOSE to Devin's high, fry scream. Close... Devin adds the 'happy' to it; the cougar is just after yer neck. They use that scream when they are trying to track down their cub(s) when they are coming home from hunting.... not kidding here (she would park one in a neighbors tree while stalking livestock on our hill). In all my years of being a dentist (many in public health) I've never heard a human make that noise, and I've had some intense/painful/swollen patients coming rolling in/out of the gutters and into my chair... I guess none of them were metal singers. OK... enough 11 month old tangents... back to work.
Devin Townsend - Bring Him Home - Devin Townsend's Christmas Special Such a beautiful performance. He puts so much emotion into it, really makes you feel the song.
This is why The Charismatic Voice now has an octopus :)
and i'm already waiting for mine! muahahah
I bought a friend the Octopus and her cat cuddles with it every night!
Yep :)
Hevy Devy everyone’s favorite Disney princess ❤️

I always took this song as (lyrically) being about talking someone down from a panic attack in a public place.

Disney need to hire this guy for a soundtrack.

Pretty sweet I thought
By all accounts he was a little unwell while singing that day. Legend.
As with many musical geniuses, he could frequently be described as "unwell".
Ohhh, so happy this made it's way to RUclips 🐙
If you have not...
For the love of God do the Dunlop session with Devin Townsend

He's enjoying himself so much it's scary. Love it. Brilliant.

There are a few amateur recordings of Devi singing Bring Him Home... he likes his music theatre.
Ahh, I love DT! Yet again, another legend from the west coast. #DevinsAnAlBumparty
He has a bucket full of 90 minute podcasts that is extremely interesting to listen to... if you want bedtime stories... :)
I absolutely love those podcasts. It’s adding so much additional depth to Devin both as an exceptionally talented musician and private person.
And for your unabashed worship of my beloved devy you get the sub!!
A comment on another video referred to Devin as "the Deadpool of metal", and I think that's as accurate a description as I've seen.
*operatic singing*
"What a baller, dude."
glad you get the vibe here 😂
@@CharlieCalottaReacts It was a bit unlegato tho, be more serious 😜😝 (kidding, it was badass)

Hevy Devy's earlier nickname was The Mad Scientist, and it couldn't be more fitting.
Just came from the stream where I got to see Tommy singing Anthem and help introduce you to Diana Ankudinova and then a Devin reaction is waiting for me on youtube. This day vastly improved 😁
The "Weird Al Yankovic of metal" is kind of correct. Devin has been doing most mindblowing metal since early 90's both silly and deeply emotional.
I never miss a vid. I subbed after 2 videos. And honestly charlie you deserve a bigger channel. I dont need to explain to everyone why that is and how you are head and shoulders above most reaction channels of this ilk. But yeah. Keep up the good work.
The part where he goes right up to the camera is him doing Doc Brown from Back to the Future
thanks for reacting to this epicness!
A......friggin'.....MAZING!! Holly $hit, this is epic AF. Wow.....really cool. Wow!
He’s definitely a “singers” singer! Great Reaction ya totally get him (ud be surprised how many don’t)! 🤍
Phenomenal from Devin. Pure fun.
I remember almost spewing my coffee at "dingy dingy ding" the first time I watched his video 😂
I don't know if anyone mentioned it but the choir is Elektra Womens Choir.

He is metal lol
Devy doing Devy Things.
Awesome!
That wasn't a children's choir, it was Elektra Women's Choir. Devy has used them on a lot of tracks on several recordings. Cheers
Leprous- Castaway Angels!
I tell you who he sounds a bit like, Roy Orbison :)
He lives among mountain lions...and roars just like them

Umm ... Ziltoid could be a bedtime story -- just sayin' But not for a 3 yr old.
As good as he sounds here, he was suffering from a bit of a cold during this StageIT concert.

Think I would've preferred you reacting to this song but with him wearing the Tutu on stage.
Nice. BTW: Yankowic is read not Yankowick but Yankowitch, just in passing

Why do “musical reviewers” always pause in the middle of a phrase?! Listen to the music phrasing and stop pausing the middle of one

RIP eardrums. I hardly knew you.
Didn't hear one single lyric, didja.
Homie averted a Disney style existential crisis by missing the lyrics.
Needs to clench his face? No
But I think he likes the dramatic effect...😉
Comparing one of the best voices in the world to "weird al" is just idiotic!!! Especially from someone who sounds like crap!!
