With respect - ‘Old Brown Shoe / Ballad of John and Yoko’ do not belong on an ‘Abbey Road’ list, they were both recorded earlier in the year and released as a standalone single.
@@stephenoleary5627 I did say Promotional singles. I know they’re not in the album, but The Beatles usually have non album singles released either directly or indirectly in support of a specific album. Don’t Let Me Down for Let It Be, We Can Work It Out and Day Tripper for Rubber Soul etc… based on the imagery of the singles and the fact that versions of them were included in some bonus editions of the albums, I decided to include them here to make the list a little more interesting
Abbey Road. A very polished album. I find this album to be more John and George's than Paul's, and this is due to Paul scant contributions musically. Oh Darling was his best contribution song wise. I wished he gave Maxwell Silver's Hammer to Badfinger and kept "Come and Get it" for Abbey Road because it was more of a "beatle" type song. Paul's biggest contribution was more by way of producing side two. It was a brilliant way to montage those unfinished songs. The guitar/drum solos for The End was monumental. The perfect ending to that album. You had each of the 4 members doing their thing in their own style of playing. Nobody knew Abbey Road was the last album because Let It Be was release later and had more significance because it came with the announcement that the beatles were over. So when I hear Let It Be, I think about the last album of the beatles. I'm glad that Abbey Road was the last album (with hindsight), they ended the group on top.
Old Brown Shoe is not on my version of Abbey Road. It was on the "Hey Jude" album that came out after the White album. Same with Ballad of John and Yoko.
He stated that he was including songs that were released as singles during the making of Abbey Road. Which is fine. Nowadays, those singles would've been on albums. But The Beatles felt it was ripping off the public to place "singles" on albums because you're making them pay for it twice.
The thing about Maxwell for me, is that it has a particular place in my life. I was 8 yo when this album came out, and Maxwell had a certain London-UK-Beatles-Late 60's cooool about it that no other band got close to. I can't be rational about it. I just love it. I think the medley should be evaluated as a single song. Then it is #1 on the album.
Her Majesty is the last homage to the queen of England from the Beatles think of it as the music playing in the lobby as you walk out because the show is over.
I really also don't understand how anyone can put The Beach Boys in the same sentence as The Beatles. Seriously, the Beatles are in a different league. Also, for harmonies see Here, There and Everywhere
The reality is that Maxwell was extremely innovative in 1969 with the Moog. You miss that because the use of synthesizers has been totally normal for decades. But Maxwell was brand new in 1969.
Of course, you're entitled to your opinion, but I prefer to listen to what the Beatles themselves have said about the tracks on Abbey Road. Three of the four Beatles absolutely hated "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" (you don't have to believe me--look it up!). I've never seen, heard or read anywhere of so many Beatles hating any other song. So, in my opinion--I'm entitled to one too--it's "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" hands down as the worst song on the album. Nonetheless, I agree wholeheartedly with you that "Octopus's Garden" is the second worst song!
In my opinion “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” is the least “efficent” song, considering the time and effort spent on it and how every other Beatle hated it. The only bit I like is the synth part. It could have been replaced with some of George’s songs like “All Things Must Pass” or “Isn’t It A Pity”.
John, George, and Ringo hated Maxwell Silver Hammer! But they all gave in to Paul's insistence, and so it got on the album. The Beatles would have recorded more of George's songs had he pushed a little harder like Paul did.
@@genebaughbba The worst is a complicated term cause of the medley. Her Majesty would be the one, but if fully explored it would be a great song i think.

Eric Burdon was at a hotel with a few other celebrities looking down on a Vietnam protest. When he saw police arresting, and roughing up a few of the protesters he yelled at Jimi Hendrix to come and see. Eric said, "What do you think about that, Jimi?" Jimi answered, "Well, if they were to see the red Chinese rolling into South Vietnam they would understand why the US is over there." Jimi Hendrix was a soldier. He had an understanding of what was taking place in Vietnam. Those protesters didn't know, or have solutions either. It was either send US troops to fight against the Vietkong, or allow the South Vietnamese people be slaughtered.

Right-- not on Abbey Road.
Old Brown Shoe is on the White Album in the UK.
As you say though, the medley works best as a whole, and hiw it's meant to be heard
My favorite album ever easily. Gotta say tho I am in love with Maxwell’s Silver Hammer. It’s perfect to me, for whatever reason.
Nothing interesting about the instrumentation on Something? Paul’s bassline is widely regarded as one of the best basslines in all of popular music

It’s not on the album at all, it was the double sided single. Personally I wouldn’t rank it on here lol
