Even Ursula gave Ariel a free trial and a chance to keep her legs if she gets the Prince on time. When your company is worse than a disney villain literally made to be considered pure evil you know you fucked up.
Even when the singer is average he's happy. He still owns them 500 average singers RUclips advertising money still adds up to a decent figure, add that to 200 magicians, 100 comics, 300 dancers, that random ventriloquist... Etc. This contract is just as harmful if youre mediocre, he still owns you
Lilwill Newell it’s just that getting the golden buzzer immediately puts you forth into the live semi finals, meaning that your rights over your singing RUclips content etc. decrease even further.
Doesn't make it good or right. Doesn't make starry eyed performers less vulnerable. Doesn't make the industry any less cunty. Doesn't make your comment less ignorant.
spankeyfish more like unlikable. the only people i’ve seen from britains got talent in literal years were the people in compilations of ‘rudest contestants’
My friend's niece was going to be on there, and they had to go sign this. She had to make their own way there. They didn't get to see the full contract, just an abridged version. A solicitor was in place to answer any questions. They also had an 30 minute window to do this. She had the fortitude to take her dad along who although not a solicitor, was very familiar with contract speak and basically told them to stick it up their collective arse.
And now when I see Simon hitting the Golden Buzzer I get why. He is just seeing another money-making poor human being for himself and that's why he's so happy about it.
Mister Highway is thinking about the end so is EVERYONE that works under a contract. (Which by law, you have to be). you meet the requirements set in a contract or you're sacked. Theres no flaw.
It isn't morally wrong, it is a company making a profit and knowing individuals considering it worth the price. Do you expect them to say "here's free advertising for you on our EXTREMELY popular show" they have a right to operate however they want, if any of you who are complaining were in the position to write your own contracts, you would realize it is just business. Don't like it? Don't sign. It is morally wrong by your standards but it is a good deal by the standards of people who sign it and instantly become nationally or even internationally recognisable. People complaining are just over-entitled brats that expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter of one-sided gain. Of course, Britains got talent will gain more in this situation and of course, they will milk it as much as they possibly can, they are in the position to do so. Artists that need the popularity so much that they sign that contract are obviously going to fail without Britains got talent and as such will have to pay some price which evidently isn't an upfront fee. If they don't need it and are doing it of their own accord just for greed, that's their problem. Jesus christ I hate what this society has become... "This company isn't making it easy enough on me and that's not faaaaaair!!" it's either this contract or a hefty upfront fee, worth whatever you can put on instant advertisement to 8.5 million viewers.
I wonder how they let Gatis Kandis get away with it. It seems weird, as you said that everyone else (mostly) who was on BGT, AGT, SAGT, etc, have now disappeared from the internet.
@@markios6824 no not really they may want to show how aweful you are are think your nuts and would be funny on tv its a tv show they want content and any content that will get them views
Bravefar, they want everybody who auditions to sign, including the terrible acts. So no, it doesn't mean you have the talent to shop around, just that they want to own you in case it turns out that you aren't awful enough to entertain one time. Ilona Savreska, if you don't sign, you don't get on the show, so the conclusion of the video is don't go on the show at all.
Indigo as I seen this comment I was watching ghost Rider and it was at the part where the devil said u just have to sign the contract but gets a paper cut what a coincidence
The saddest part is that people go into this with genuine hopes and dreams of making a career for themselves in the entertainment industry, and those genuine hopes and dreams can outweigh the doubts they might have about the contract. And then of course there's people who don't really read the contract and end up signing their careers away. This is pure exploitation and this is the reason I can't stomach any of these shows. Glad you're speaking out about it.
jenni Very true. I've always hated these kinds of shows for this very reason. People who actually work at their craft get shafted while some jumped up tosser plays on TV for a bit and *might* win.
It’s with all TV talent shows sadly. A friend of mine auditioned for the voice and then got in and signed the contract blindly since he was only 16 and didn’t know better. He got moved forward to audition in front of the celebrity judges and no one turned their chair for him. They never even put his audition on TV and yet he is now stuck with a seven year contract. He didn’t know about that much about the contract though and decided to work hard for two years to go audition for the x-factor. He auditioned and got a yes from all 4 judges but once they learned he had a contract with the voice they dropped him. He couldn’t get any jobs in the music industry or do anything. Couldn’t even upload his own music online. It’s absolutely horrible.
Ugh Sadly probably many have already done that. Blindly signing a contract. There is some things you would never do. And one of them is to sign a contract blindly.
Watch_the kid there's probably quite a lot. What's that got to do with this video? What do we know what they go through unless its in the media? What do you call depression? EVERYBODY gets depressed in some form. Your question is too broad.
I'm not a layer, But I've worked with legal contracts before and am pretty well-versed in what they are and what their value is. This contract sounds pretty nasty, but there seems a loophole in the wording that can be exploited to shield yourself from the worst part. The worst part about signing over ownership of your online content. What you can do is, sign ownership of all of your existing online content (Your youtube account and it's content, twitter, ect.) over to a friend before signing the BGT contract. And let him keep ownership of it for the duration of your contract with BGT. You can then have a gentleman's agreement with him/her (Obviously make sure that you trust this person) so that any profit he makes from the channel and the rest of your content gets sent back to you and that when the BGT contract ends, he will sign your content back to you. This allows you to make your existing tweets and online content untouchable by BGT because everything you've posted is your friend's content, not yours even though you produced it. By the wording you used, it seems to me that only standing contracts (Such as licensing) will make you illegible, meaning completed contracts (such as signing complete ownership of your content to a friend) shouldn't affect your privilege to sign the BGT contact. Other than that, make sure that whatever performance you make while your under contract is something that you don't mind losing the rights to. You should make an act specifically for BGT. Obviously you should still avoid appearing publicly or creating new content while you're still under contract but using this loophole (Which you can do with other content as well such as CD's and other publications if you want to be on the safe side) should keep your past content completely safe while you pursue BGT.
Solicitor is lawyer is England... The contract states any contract you're in is now theirs too. They own the money you're friend gives you if they become aware of it
Johnathan Guy contracts that practically make you a slave as long as you sign exist so you shouldn't be surprised. Contracts can contain anything legit anything....
Momo kun Contracts can contain anything but even your agreement doesn't make the clauses legally enforceable if they are not supported by legislation. This contract as described by this video has several clauses that are just entirely unenforceable.
God damn finally someone came out with this stuff. I signed a ND and still told people about these contracts they try to get you to sign after they make you sign the ND. Happy my dad didn't let me sign this (being 12 at the time). Glad someone managed to get this out there!
Glad you spoke out. I didn't have to go through that to know better, not that I ever had talent. Well... some people think I do, but I would never put it out there like that.
Most of the clauses in this contract are fair, however, let's go through the ones you see as controversial. I'll take it point by point. Having a clause whereby you agree to another contract which is not formed and the terms made clear and explicit to you, would not hold up if they tried to enforce it. Contracts also can't act retrospectively, so they do not, and cannot own your previous content. They also cannot ban you from releasing new material, especially not things like Tweets/Facebook posts, only material that relates to the show directly, again, regardless of terms, contracts cannot control your life to that extent and if they tried to take it to court it wouldn't stand. As for adapting your image, this means so they can photoshop you onto backgrounds for posters etc. not to make you look bad, as you seem to think, as this clause has clearly defined limits in legal precedent. For example, they cannot photoshop you having sex with a pig and put it on posters, as this would constitute defamation and misleading of the public. Next, you say you license over your rights to your original perfomance - yes - you LICENSE it, meaning they don't own it, but they can use it, and this is necessary for them to be able to show it legally on television in the UK. You then say it's mean for them to be able to remove them for any reason they choose, and this is fair and normal in almost every contract, e.g. going to a bar, the management always reserve the right to remove the people they see fit, it's to protect against lawsuits from people who think they were unfairly disqualified, and is a VERY common clause. As for not appearing online, they mean in terms of interviews, they cannot legally stop your friends/family taking photos of you and posting them online, again, if they tried to ever enforce it in this way it would fail (not that they ever would). Not being liable for injury unless you can prove it, what is unfair about that? That is quite literally just how Tort Law (lawsuits) works. As for varying the terms of the contract when a clause becomes unlawful - if they modify the contract you always have to agree to the change, this is again - the law. You can choose to disagree and keep the original contract with the (now) unenforceable clause. If anyone disagrees, feel free to reply! :)
as disgusting as this is, sadly its not uncommon. i know some contracts also seeps into your personal life, say, you arent allowed to date anyone so long as youre under that company its inhumane
This was really insightful. I expected that contestants wouldn't get much choice with signing on if they won, but the fact that they inherit your own social media material just by your applying for the competition is just ridiculous. Vids like these are great by the way, keep it up
By the way, at 9:30, the expression is “full stop”, not “period”. This ‘ . ‘ is a “full stop” in British English, not a “period”, which is American English.
Saw this in recommended, didn't know the channel, clicked for the title but because of the length I was expecting a vlog-type video that would only get to the title in like the last 5 minutes. I was pleasently surprised; you got straight to the point and had me entertained and interested throughout. Great job, have my like sir!
Idk if this is true or not tbh. I mean, if it were this aggregious, why are we only finding out *now* ? These talent shows have been around for a long time now, and nobody ever said a word afaik.
Full rights to your "image"... And this is how they get away with making some people absolute Butt-Monkeys, constantly showing them in the most humiliating or unflattering light for the world to laugh at - the person concerned is contractually forbidden to complain about it. Their "brand" is "laughable fuckwit" or "horrible ranty person" to contrast the brand of "Most wonderful person", "Most talented". After all, how can we know how great the person being built up is if we don't have someone else to tear down? It's an unhealthy, depraved dynamic. Other "Reality TV" is just as bad, so the content of this contract is most likely indicative of what's in the contracts for the likes of Survivor Island, The Bachelor, Big Brother etc. If they want to paint you as the villain by focusing on the times you lost your rag or said something that can be taken out of context, then you are the villain - because every show *needs* a villain and how can we advertise our show effectively without putting a clip or picture of someone up with "Is this UK's/USA's/The World's MOST HATED man/woman/child/amoeba?" How do they get away with this? The public can't get enough of shit like this and people are so hungry for fame or for the money/contracts they perceive they might get if they win that there's vast amounts of money to be made and no shortage of victims. Passed the initial audition for this (or any other "Reality" programme and don't want to sign the contract because it's demeaning? Fuck off, then, we've got plenty of victims, I mean _people_ who are prepared to sign. The show is rigged and uses downright deceptive editing and obligatory "choices" to spin out the conflict, suspense etc? Who cares? Plenty of people will tune in to watch it, anyway - even though a 3-year-old would wonder why the "nasty person" that everyone is hating has made it through to the semi-final and not been kicked/"voted" off already. They're nothing but fucking meat-mills; this contract - while truly disgusting - is not (unfortunately) surprising.
Don't say that! There are plenty of real entertainment schools designed to teach and foster your talent and further your career. Syco(and many other) makes reality TV shows and are a insult to what art is. But you don't need talent, it's all hard work and joy in what you do. If you enjoy doing it, you'll get good at it. No one is born a singer or musician. never too late to start. If you look up real competitions, they are night and day with this "talent show." There is barely any talking between judges and performer. No backstory, how beautiful you are don't matter. You speak with your performance. There's a proper dress code, etiquette and skill level required. You are judged based on technical standards(not just insults like Simon) ranging from execution, style, tempo etc. There's proper constructive feedback and winning or losing is not that big of a deal since anyone that make it pass the preliminaries already have the skills to have a future ahead of them. What it does is challenging you, a learning experience and helps you grow as a performer.
Brian Hawes I don't believe in natural talent. Some people might catch on to things faster but anybody can do most things (unless you're mentally or physically disabled obviously) you just have to try.
No wonder one of the girls from fifth harmony answered the question from an audience member "what advice would you give to an aspiring artist?" by saying "read your contracts".
Why does the Hunger Games remind me of the chess club at my new high school. The chess club is a dog eat dog competition. I wish I was on the team but it sounds hard.
Its done 19:41 in uk atm lets see how long will it take to be taken down, Its in the comment section of their newest video. How I love freedom of speech
Difference: Devil will take your soul and give you something else(examples: power, money, love). Brits got talent will take every single bit of your previous and future live away from you, making you basically a slave.
Muutrix de AngelPlayer yeah but then you also burn in hell for like 1000 years after your contract with the devil is up so.....have fun with that i guess.
The contract in short: They can do literally WHATEVER they want, they own everything you've ever ever made, you can't do ANYTHING unless they say so, you don't get any money for your work unless they say so, and you can't tell ANYONE about how they treat you. Vile.
If its legal for them to basically say "You cant sue us for anything but what we tell you you can sue for" then there is something seriously wrong with the legal system
Technically and unfortunately no there is not. Because a company like SiCo has the authority to impose such power and terms on their slaves, Oh ....sorry no contestants. They are not breaching any law or even Human Rights legislation in the UK. So therefore as these Terms and Conditions only affect what the person's Virtual, Internet Life consists of there are no legal repercussions or ramifications for the cooperation. Its is disgusting that people are basically allowed to treated this way. But wait....does this not affect most areas of industry as a whole.....such as the video game industry (Specifically in the United States) and the shady practices which transpire there. (Oh yes...EA)
It doesn't work that way, phone contracts are a popular example used by lawyers to demonstrate this point. Even if you consent to a term in the contract that term still has to follow the rules of contract common law and statute Therefore if you agree to a term that doesn't follow contract law, your consent cannot be used to justify this A lot of terms in mobile phone contracts are not authoritative but they are put in anyway. In reality the phone company couldn't enforce these terms even if they wanted to
You can only demand terms within the legal system. You can't supersede nor have any terms and conditions that are statutorially(?) illegal i.e. The Company allows you to sell cocaine at half street value.
Exodus There is no common law any more, that has all been superseded with Statutes. There are no contracts in common law other than natural law and common sense.
A bully from my school who everyone hated went on this show in 2011. He got through to the semi finals and they painted him like a perfect child and. They had all the teachers on there saying he was a golden child and even asked people from my class to go to the news cameras and act like his friends which obviously no-one wanted to do. He got disqualified for something and no-one ever heard from him again, all his social media was down and I never saw him out anywhere. Pretty sure now he's working behind the tills in an asda or co-op or something like that. now you said about how they own all their social medias I'm wondering if they found out he was an awful child and so made up a reason to disqualify him and not let him online. I just checked and he still doesn't have social media.
Fifi Who knows a guy that knows a cousin who knows a pegasus who knows a god who knows a guy who knows a goat...(reference to Percy Jackson Book Series)
@1 1 one direction as a band is still under syco. Though as solo artists they are signed off to different labels( Harry-columbia , Zayn-RCA and Louis-syco/arista...still under different branches of Sony). But they have one common contract. They did not allow Louis to get out of syco. And he was probably forced to judge the x-factor 2018.
I genuinely think that a contract with the devil might be a better alternative than this shit. I mean, you could become the best human being at everything in the entire world with the devil's contract. With this bloke's, you're guaranteed to have no profitable online life whatsoever, nor are you gonna have any privacy, and you're probably still gonna go to hell. I'd say fuck it and ask the devil for the superpower to create my own superpowers at a moment's notice and control them however i see fit. I wouldn't even care that i'd have sold my sole to fucking Satan himself, as i've already got several luxury class tickets to hell anyways. :/
The contract will have been offered on a 'take it or leave it' basis and are highly likely to be non-negotiable. Contestants aren't forced to enter the contract, so it ultimately falls onto the contestant whether or not they wish to sign their life away.
This contract is 100% non-negotiable. The contestants have absolutely zero to offer Cowell before they are made famous by the show, and he controls whether they become famous.
I had one of these contracts for the Bulgarian Music Idol (I have never signed it tho) and you are not allowed to show this contract to a lawyer or anyone else. Also you are not allowed to mention the show or the producers anywhere, otherwise you'll be charged 100 000 €
being homeless sounds better than this.... dont understand how parents exploit their child and essentially enslave them under these contracts for the trade of a quick buck to them.
I don't think most parents think like that, they're just deluded into making their kid's dream come true. Most either don't read the contract or get sweet talked into doing it, hooked in by their good faith.
they are excited that their kid has talent and somebody gives them a stage. and while they are still hapy that their kid got accepted they get that paperwork. not per mail but of course in persoin whicxh makes them feel even more special and even more overexcitzed. the kid feels special and happy too the "salesman" talksd with the kids and the parents "all that´s left is to sign here" and only people working in business know how disgusting business is, nobody really understands the legal euphermisms anyway and the kid is like "come on daddy, sign" and daddy without reading and understanding it signs it. it´s evben more disgusting with kids than how for instance i pressurized customers to taking contracts in the past. It´s the kid doing the job for the guy from sico and the kid has WAY more emotional leverage .when i sold phone contracts for kids i went like "don´t y
Just another corporate money only focused company manipulating contestants and rigging the competition so that the most relevant acts win, its not talent, but popularity that's wins. Absolutely all acts who have won the show or competed at a high stage in the show are utterly average at best at what they do, since they're not judged by professionals in that particular skill/art they are performing in. Acts because of this fact dont last long mostly in their careers after winning. But the company owned by Cowell, syco or whoever it is will always drop their act after they dont hit targets made for them, I would presume a certain unrealistic amount of revenue must be earned by the act to keep them on, people are treated like dirt and cast away for the winner of the subsequent year, how many xfactor winners get dropped after about a year lol, having a competition each and every year is completely unfair on the winners aa fhe limelight is taken away from them almost immediately after they win, a career every year is ruined. Yet i will never understand the publics desire to support these evil companies and Cowell, oh yeah i forgot, they target kids and young teenagers who generally do not have enough life experience to understand about money and manipulation, and this dark side of talent shows in general.
CTV was Wise to cancel Canadian Idol because more than likely they didn’t want to waste money on Simon Cowell’s Garbage 🗑 Shows, Idol AGT BGT X Factor are Rigged Fixed and a Scam. The Voice is no better.
Good for you? I never even showed my opinion, you just assumed I was american for no apparent reason even though, to be honest, i'd rather fucking shoot myself than be American
Ben Wilson you are right, though in my limited understanding, civil law is much more complicated than criminal law, which makes it way too costly for someone to who is not a multi-billionaire company to take said company to court. Also so much hassle. And unlike the contestants, they can pay for really good lawyers who'd spin the story any way they like. I'm only vaguely aware of a few cases when an individual sued such a big company, and only a couple of successful ones. But then again, I never looked into this properly
Anyone who asks you to sign a NDA unless it's to do with child protection or state secrets should be treated with extreme suspicion. There are certain times when ethically you'd keep your mouth shut such as actors in a series saying something that will spoil the surprise the series has lined up for its viewers. But then, it should only need a verbal agreement not to say anything, not a contract. The problem with contract law is that it goes through a civil court and people like Simon Cowell have enough money to pay for top lawyers that you can only dream about affording. The problem is seperating the two terms "Legal" and "Ethical" and judging on the basis of the latter rather than the former. Civil judges really need to start considering the ethical grounds and using that as a guideline since the law is really made in the courtroom based on precedents set by judges. It only needs one case to go in the contestants favour on ethical grounds and that contract would be destined for the bin.
Tryst46, there are many good reasons for having an NDA. Corporate secrets for instance. You don't want people having access to the source code for your bank's website, and your bank doesn't want its employees sharing inside information with other banks either. If you are an employer trying to hire people and you have a test that you use to eliminate people before first round interviews, you don't want that test and its answers being made publicly available, that defeats the purpose of the test. That being said, an NDA that prevents people from talking about this contract sure is dubious. The only reason you'd want an NDA to prevent people from reading a contract that they would be forced to sign at some point is because you know that people won't be interested if they know they have to sign the contract beforehand.
Korean label/music companies: *sees this* Ha, hold my beer son. (For real, though. Y'all talking bout "slavery" - y'all haven't seen NOTHING yet if you don't know how k-pop companies work. Whole different ballgame. Takes the meaning of slavery to a new level. After all, they're not called manufactured idols for no reason... Talk about having no free will. Smh. It's so sad. They're basically contractually obliged not to have a social life, see their families when they want, eat when they want, or even breach the contract since they're monitored 24/7. It's awful and there's basically no way out since their money and lives are constantly being controlled by their management. That's why you've got so many cases of hospitalization due to dieting/stress/exhaustion and dozens of cases of suicide in the past 10 years due to pressure.)
M e y a Well, no one asked anyone anything in this comment section, but does that mean no one can reply? Sure their post was a little off topic, but it still discusses corruption of ideas and intellectual property, and goes beyond that into the scope of dangerously controlling institutions, made, just like BGT, to prey on the talent of others. It’s very relevant.
or people who know that he is grossly exagerating the situation and that these clauses are there for good reason to protect the company from not getting scammed themselves. Not like he doesn't sign his content away as well...
Yeah? Go do something else with your life then. No one is forcing you to do it. If you're smart, you will make a lot of money from this. Or, like I said, go do something else. And like another commentor said, people in Dubai working like actual ( if not literal) slaves, PROBABLY have it a little worse.
This is why when the producer of the show rang me up (nice enough guy, he had managed Sigur Ros and a few other successful artists in the past) and asked me if I wanted to go on the show and go straight to the TV round I politely told him what I thought of the show. I'm still unsigned, still trying to get somewhere with my music/make a living via it. But I have no regrets.
@@SamKennedy61004 Why would I make this up on a youtube comment. Want me to show you the emails from the producer of the show at the time Stephen Jones?
Wow! I actually applied for Britain's got talent about 6 years ago, I'm so glad I didn't go ahead with it. I'm happy uploading my music on here for my 195 subscribers lol
You know he edited it bcz everyone gave him hate bcz they thought he was criticising the video.but tru...it is awful ;) I mean the contract, not the video.
I was wondering why Zoe Alexander only quite recently spoke out about her experience so long after it had ruined her life: she legally couldn't until recently. That's so f*cked.
Because people willingly signing it. The contract is put in front of you. You have the chance to read and understand it. If you still sign this shit, its your fault.
Haha xvlad, greed ends suddenly if people destroy capitalism? capitalism, a tool Which has helped them function as a society and even have plenty of leisure time? Greed won’t end but reliable food and needs supplies will, freedom do do what you want to do instead of what the marxists in charge make you do will. The fallacious thinking of capitalism as anything other than a tool will. The belief in the communist propaganda of our fake Facebook groups and fake media will. It’s like if I said I want to be free and then I quit my job for freedom, but now I can’t provide for myself so I have to beg. It would be unimaginably disasterous if people were useful idiots enough to destroy capitalism....then when things are like that we’llsee greed like we’ve never seen before.
I can't believe anyone is still watching Jeremy Kyle "reality" tv and stuff like this. A watch is a vote for more garbage. I've stopped watching tv totally now and I've never been happier. I watched Gintama, Death Note (anime etc. and the philosophy and interesting stories they make in Japan is a lot better (takes a bit to get going but really , it's smart ). I also used RUclips to learn Crochet (from Happyberry's Mandala - copying and pausing her actions to follow till I got it) and knitting and it's fantastic! Just check out the awesome yarns you can get like Qing Fibre, Hedgehog Fibres (and it's free patterns), Walkcollection, Scheepjes list of bloggers with free little i.e mug mat/phone case patterns.. I'm making the free Sophies Universe pattern. Ravelry has a community of patterns/ spotlights/ etc. too.
yep, they are trying to find desperate people with actual talent that they can basically own forever, but if you look at people like Susan Boyle who wouldnt even use social media it prob works fine for them. Its all about control and protection.
it's just to creepy when I think about it. I went to auditions in a different talent show, and I just skimmed through it, I'm glad I didn't pass the pre rounds, funny thing is, they choose (the best) and (the worst) those in between, that have somewhat talent, but not that special don't get far. so it's creepy they use the worst people just for views and to humiliate them. they handed out stickers before we entered the building (red and green) waay before contact signing, red means bad dressed or funny , green is best dressed. they use that for humiliation as well.
It's definitely what they call a "slave contract" and they are all too common. Metal Blade records signed Metallica, The Goo Goo Dolls and my others to pretty much the same type of contract. Both Metallica and Goo Goo Dolls had to go to court to show how unfair the contract was and won their cases. Aerosmith's contract with their first manager was also a "slave Contract" but was so air tight that the only way Aerosmith was able to get out of that contract was to still give their former manager 25% of everything the band made in future revenues. Its still going on to this day, over 40 yrs later. Aerosmith can release an album, it can make $10 million dollars and their former agent will STILL get $2.5 million. I know America's Got Talent HAD a similar contract but has since altered it. I had a friend who appeared on one of the first seasons and he told me how one sided the contract was, almost to the point of being illegal. Even though he signed it and appeared, he still wound up bringing in a legal team to alter it. (My friend has money and performs for fun, he doesnt need the cash but wanted the exposer for his act ) Another reason they had to alter their contract was because of Terry Fator , a ventriloquist who won season 2 of AGT. Back then the winner received $1 million dollars (paid out over 20 years which equates to a lil over $4k a month) and a show at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Terry Fator was such a HUGE hit in Las Vegas that another casino, the Mirage, offered him $25 million AND his own theater in their casino. A new agreement was reached because there was no way in HELL the Mirage casino is going to make that kind of investment and have AGT collect all the merchandising rights from T-Shirts, Ticket Sales, Plush toys of Terry's characters etc. Believe it or not, its not just the contestants who are subjugated to a strict contract with AGT. We just lost Nick Cannon, the host of AGT. Nick has his hands in a lot of different types of careers including stand up comedy. He made a joke (thats wasnt even close to being racist by ANY standard but the top brass at NBC TV Studio that airs AGT thought it was) and told him he was a "brand representative" and as such needed to be more careful in what he says. That was when Nick quit. I get it, these shows do put you on a world wide stage with a much larger audience than you may ever reach on your own so some compensation is expected but at what point is enough enough?

What does celebrity mean any more? It seems to be something to help dumb down society, where talentless celebs are over hyped, to dumb down people to think they should want to be like that. People are told to admire trash worse than most people
La1 completely wrong, since you think society is made up of 13 year old girls. If you're trash, then you'll admire a trashy celebrity, if you are not, then you won't admire that celebrity, simple as that. No one is *told* to do anything like you imply. You seem to have a really closed and narrow view of the world.
rikki kingston I'm sorry but thinking that all that celebrities do is dumb people down is a very close minded statement. Any statement that generalizes a social group without taking into factor all the other possibilities that that group could have is in fact being closed minded. Celebrities don't just include pop stars. Celebrities could include Poets, scientists, scholars, etc... Sure, peer pressure plays into this, but the most manipulable minds are the young ones, and that's why I jokingly said that La1 thinks society is made up of 13 year olds. I'm sorry pal, but you didn't change my mind, and I still stand with what I said.
It’s literally a reality show, I expect nothing less from it sadly, I was just at the live show of America’s got talent and literally everythingggg is planned. I went on a Wednesday and the acts sucked so I went on Saturday and all the acts were great and they pressed the golden buzzer. As the act was performing, I looked over to the side of the stage and a crew member was nonchalantly holding a white board telling a judge to push the gold (mainly cuz of the boys inspiring story) so the new judge pushed it
The music industry has ripped off every artist for decades. People like Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Nina Simone, The Beatles, Prince.....they all got mercilessly robbed. Prince was the first artist to escape his agency, and release his music through the internet. The very first. People get excited, they're desperate, they think a big company will be their friend and they'll make a fortune enjoying themselves. But the reality is that the industry will work you to death, take all of your money and then drop you. To succeed you need to be 95% business and 5% music.
why do you think prince told them all to fuck off ... he sold all his music from his own website and made more cash doing that than he ever did with a record contract .. i shit you not he made millions
thesouthernlord it's not that you can't get rich with the music industry, just that they will make it so you do what they say and make them richer than you.
they, like the stones, got screwed over by their first contract. they got bought out shortly after, and then negociated what has become known as "the best deal in the music industry", for the musicians. they were fully in control of their musical output and products, iirc the only thing the record company got was 5% and the responsibility to make them tour. that label was friggin' desperate, and in the end didn't even regret they got shafted it was such a boom to business. now, sabbath and slipknot? both bad contracts (the first ones at least), and sabbath had a corrupt manager on top of it. they were almost always bankrupt. despite slipknot's first two albums going multi-platinum, all 9 of them were heavily in debt rather than millionaires. goes to show that a nose for business beats musical creativity.
I’m a model, dancer and blogger and I was considering auditioning for the show but now I’m never going to audition. When I signed my contracts for modelling I read every single word to make sure nothing sketchy was there and then asked my parents to do the same before signing. But some people just can’t be bothered and sadly end up signing their life away all to some words printed on a paper. Yes it’s disgusting what BGT are doing.
Probably more like, "Patrick, why did BGT sue you and your grandma for 11 million dollars and have you enslaved at Simon Cowell's right hand?" "Shh, I can't tell you without _his_ permission!"
I thought you were responding to Luci but I guess you were just responding to the OP... Either way, your comment is half-arsed and tells me nothing if I didn't watch the video, whereas Luci's does. *cryinglaughemojicryinglaughemojicryinglaughemoji*
Thanks for that video. I thought a few times about going on any of these shows for fun, but I think I´ll keep on doing music on YT. Fighting with copyright is better than having my content completely taken away from me.
So basically what I've learned from this is just make your art on your own. Don't try to get it out there by these asshats. I imagine this isn't much different in the case of his American shows either.
Skilz you might want to read up on the 13th amendment. When a person voluntarily signs a contract, they are agreeing to the terms. The contract may be unethical, but it is a legally binding agreement and it is NOT forced labor.
Addendum: I am in no way suggesting that contracts cannot be challenged in court and consequently dissolved. My point is that this is not slavery. Know what you're signing yourself up for.
Yes and no. Some people want to be famous overnight and bypass a lifetime of hard work and dedication that may or may not pay off. It all depends on your goals I guess. Personally I choose the journey over the reward so I'm staying as far as possible but for some it's more than worth it
A clear-headed adult deciding to sign this contract is one thing. Adults signing away their small children's lives is a whole other level. I don't think a 10 year old let alone a 5 year old really understand the repercussions of signing such a contract. Furthermore, what about people who have a disability that limits their ability to understand this contract? What legal guardian in his/her right mind would sign or aid in signing such a document?!
The contract where Ursala took Ariel's voice away was a far better deal
Whahahaha! Couldn't have said that better myself...
Even Ursula gave Ariel a free trial and a chance to keep her legs if she gets the Prince on time. When your company is worse than a disney villain literally made to be considered pure evil you know you fucked up.

So now i know why Simon gets this odd smile when theres a great singer on the show..
It just means hes about to make a lot of money..
You needed this video to realise that?
Even when the singer is average he's happy. He still owns them 500 average singers RUclips advertising money still adds up to a decent figure, add that to 200 magicians, 100 comics, 300 dancers, that random ventriloquist... Etc. This contract is just as harmful if youre mediocre, he still owns you
okay but why would he not smile at a great singer though
He wins regardless of if the competitors do

My friend's niece was going to be on there, and they had to go sign this. She had to make their own way there. They didn't get to see the full contract, just an abridged version. A solicitor was in place to answer any questions. They also had an 30 minute window to do this.
She had the fortitude to take her dad along who although not a solicitor, was very familiar with contract speak and basically told them to stick it up their collective arse.
Phew.

Doesn't matter if it's $1 or $1,000,000 you're still a puppet tied to a string. Your measurement of success is flawed and ignorant.
Mister Highway is thinking about the end so is EVERYONE that works under a contract. (Which by law, you have to be). you meet the requirements set in a contract or you're sacked. Theres no flaw.
Everyone saying “it was their choice/they knew what they got into” doesn’t get the point. The point is that this contract is morally wrong.
morally bad, not morally wrong
Ashlynn Ozella yeah but that still doesn't change the fact that the artist's are mildly autistic for signing a contract without reading it
Ashlynn Ozella Yes it is. I'm not surprised at all by any of it though.
Ashlynn Ozella still they sign it
It isn't morally wrong, it is a company making a profit and knowing individuals considering it worth the price.

The 4.2K dislikes are the people who has signed this contract, who are forced to do it by Britian's got talent
@Prospection Numeric that’s so true
Ugh thats sad
Ugh yo what the actual fuck that’s sick
If he’s a minor (under 18 years) that contract is void.
TheCamProject not if it also required a guardians signature for applicants under 18
Ugh Sadly probably many have already done that. Blindly signing a contract. There is some things you would never do. And one of them is to sign a contract blindly.

T-Bone Iii

Zoroastrianistic Zoro I agree! My content should belong to me. I shouldn't have to give rights to someone to do what they please.
Your content does belong to you. This is nonsense.
Glad someone managed to get this out there!
an under 18 cannot sign a legally binding contract anyway.
Johnathan Guy wow that must have taken a LOT of time :)
What's your point, Happy Piggy?
as disgusting as this is, sadly its not uncommon. i know some contracts also seeps into your personal life, say, you arent allowed to date anyone so long as youre under that company

If they want to paint you as the villain by focusing on the times you lost your rag or said something that can be taken out of context, then you are the villain - because every show *needs* a villain and how can we advertise our show effectively without putting a clip or picture of someone up with "Is this UK's/USA's/The World's MOST HATED man/woman/child/amoeba?"
How do they get away with this?
Almost makes me glad that I don't have a scrap of talent!
Mate he was joking stop writing books

@@johnjones4074 some are actually forced
Even if you consent to a term in the contract that term still has to follow the rules of contract common law and statute
Therefore if you agree to a term that doesn't follow contract law, your consent cannot be used to justify this
A lot of terms in mobile phone contracts are not authoritative but they are put in anyway.
That's how contracts work, and why it's important to actually read them before signing.
What was his name?
who is he
@Sadie Smith It wasn't
@Sadie Smith I've had a look and he only got to the judges houses not semi finals which is my mistake

With this bloke's, you're guaranteed to have no profitable online life whatsoever, nor are you gonna have any privacy, and you're probably still gonna go to hell.

I bet the dont read the terms and conditions, they sign that immediately l
I dont think even the parents get anything.
It´s the kid doing the job for the guy from sico and the kid has WAY more emotional leverage
.when i sold phone contracts for kids i went like "don´t y
Lab Rox They cant on their own, but if a parent consents to the contract, it will be legally binded to them. It's really sad but true.
Yeah, it’s not like dragons den where the contestants are literally business professionals, the people who watch it are normies.

Some countries have an "unfair contract law" which would tear that terrible contract to shreds if someone tried to use it there.
Ben Wilson all countries should have that
All countries would have something like that but it costs big bucks to take anything to court and you may not even win in the end.
This needs to go viral.
Why? This won't happen to anyone who fucking READS what he signs.
dXb Why? Well, why’d you think? To have something done about this madness, of course! You’d be surprised how much power the media has.

Well, no one asked anyone anything in this comment section, but does that mean no one can reply? Sure their post was a little off topic, but it still discusses corruption of ideas and intellectual property, and goes beyond that into the scope of dangerously controlling institutions, made, just like BGT, to prey on the talent of others.

This is why when the producer of the show rang me up (nice enough guy, he had managed Sigur Ros and a few other successful artists in the past) and asked me if I wanted to go on the show and go straight to the TV round I politely told him what I thought of the show. The belief in the communist propaganda of our fake Facebook groups and fake media will.

it's just to creepy when I think about it.

(My friend has money and performs for fun, he doesnt need the cash but wanted the exposer for his act )
Another reason they had to alter their contract was because of Terry Fator , a ventriloquist who won season 2 of AGT.
I get it, these shows do put you on a world wide stage with a much larger audience than you may ever reach on your own so some compensation is expected but at what point is enough enough?
damn
Don't sign contracts you don't want to follow.

What you are saying is very interesting. Now i can understand that being a celebrity is not that good.
.
if you are an independent celebrity then it's all good. Just stay away from sketchy contracts if you can.
Unfortunately there will always be an army of naive teens & young adults lining outside the auditions.
George Michael just refused to write any music for about 5 years. He done the bare minimum he needed to then Sat it out.
thesouthernlord it's not that you can't get rich with the music industry, just that they will make it so you do what they say and make them richer than you.
they, like the stones, got screwed over by their first contract. they got bought out shortly after, and then negociated what has become known as "the best deal in the music industry", for the musicians. they were fully in control of their musical output and products, iirc the only thing the record company got was 5% and the responsibility to make them tour. that label was friggin' desperate, and in the end didn't even regret they got shafted it was such a boom to business.
now, sabbath and slipknot? both bad contracts (the first ones at least), and sabbath had a corrupt manager on top of it. they were almost always bankrupt. despite slipknot's first two albums going multi-platinum, all 9 of them were heavily in debt rather than millionaires. goes to show that a nose for business beats musical creativity.
Craig Nevermind I see why they killed Prince off.

Literally a contract from/with the devil.
nah, at least with signing a contract with the devil you'll get something out of it
Nope. A contract with the Devil would be more fair
Except it’s Simon Cowell, so it’s worse

So basically what I've learned from this is just make your art on your own. Don't try to get it out there by these asshats. I imagine this isn't much different in the case of his American shows either.
Not even if you sign a contract? Because I mean you're legally signing your rights off.
Tyler Scull Terrible. Thanks for correcting my mistake though.
I think that may be why Simon didn’t want kids on the shows for a while and they rarely keep them on unless they’ve got really good talent now days
