    There is literally NO ONE more deserving of support than The Professor. I can't think of a single person who pours as much heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears into this community. With RUclips paying in pennies, it really is all about the community. All of YOU make TCC what it is. Your continued and generous support of Prof is part of what makes our little corner of the internet a wonderful place to be. I don't have a better friend in this community. I don't know a better creator in this community. Truly a gentleman and a scholar.

      Don't forget that when Wedge says community, he does not only mean us, the fans. He means Boogie, when he needed help, he meant Rudy, when his ad sense was stolen and RUclips wouldn't do shit. He meant anyone in the TCG community when they went under fire for reasons that made no sense.

    I am, as always, humbled beyond words by all of you (and if you've seen my videos, then you know what a statement that is: I never shut up).
    Thank you.
    Here's the story: About five days before the term started I got a letter from my dean saying my classes had all been cut due to budget cuts. It was a short message.
    I wrote back and asked if there were **any** classes I could have in place of the cut ones. Even just one to keep me on the payroll. My family has its health insurance through my job, but I need at least one class to keep that insurance going. Answer: No. And we have no idea if we will have a class for you next term. We'll let you know a few days before the start of it if you do.
    I have worked at this college for 10 years. My Dean does not know what I even look like.
    Five years ago budget cuts like this happened. My wife and I lost classes, and we were up to 2am screaming (not at each other, just over the situation) and sobbing openly. We didn't know if we could keep paying the rent.
    But when I lost my classes this time....I didn't scream or cry. This job at RUclips...this job for all of you....is more stable than my job as a professor, and I feel so much safer with it. And fulfilled.
    Thank you for giving me my real job. I don't know what I did to deserve it, but I am so happy that I did it, and I will do everything in my power to serve you and this community.
    Edit: Looks like I was wrong. Losing my job did result in me crying this time, but not like last. tears of overwhelming joy and gratitude. I can't believe this. I don't deserve it. I really just wanted to get enough to keep making "In Response" and pay for my family's health insurance but this...??? I'm going to be able to rent a real live office. I've never had a real office, not even as an instructor. Thank you. I won't let you down. Got some great products...and a few not so great products...to show you in Tuesday's video!

      Could you do something nuts and try a "demonstration" series? MTG games in play, with the focus being the specific actions (not just cards) and explaining their precedence etc. with reference to cards that affect that etc.
      Like REAL beginners stuff.

      Tolarian Community College This is special. This right here.
      I have played magic for at least 10 years. I have never been part of any large community, only a select group of friends.
      Yet I feel included in yours...
      I have been on RUclips for many years. I follow many people with many different subjects. I have only been a follower of you for half a year.
      I have never been on Patreon, even though many of my RUclipsrs use it. Until now.
      You are something special. You and your channel. You are worth investing money in, because your are uniquely... you. In a sea of click baits and overly produced videos, there is something priceless in a genuine channel. A genuine and heartfelt channel.
      Keep up the crazy, weird and intelligently informative work you are doing.
      I salute thee.

    Even though it’s an old video, I have to say I’m glad this channel made it out of this difficult time and is still around to this day. Still the best MtG channel and the best TCG channel in general.
    Also, I can’t help, but be embarrassed by the people in this comment section who are upset by the increased Patreon donations. Shame on them. People donated for a good reason and this channel deserved it.

    I don't understand some of your reactions, he's not making pewdiepie level money and begging for more. Sure he's making 5k a month on patreon, but personal health insurance for a family remember he has a wife and kid; depending where you are can cost 1-2k a month. Taxes and bills and food for the month cost a lot as well. Sure he's not impoverished, but come on guys he's not a millionaire

  • @paulpardee
    @paulpardee 7 лет назад +257

    Geez, these comments... He's making content on a regular basis. It's good enough that 180,000 people want to be notified when new content comes out, and you think he's making too much money? Seriously. If you don't value his content, don't watch and don't donate. If you DO value his content, wouldn't you want him to be fairly compensated? Is 5 cents per subscriber per month unfair? Because that's what he's getting on Patreon as of the time I write this comment. A nickel per person who values what he does... $0.60 per year. That won't even by a can of Coke anymore.
    And remember, he's not just paying himself. This is now a BUSINESS. This isn't his personal income. This is his company's revenue. He has to pay himself, buy equipment, pay any staff (outlined in the video) and pay for overhead like internet, power, office space, etc.
    You're consuming a service he's providing. You're getting value from it. You should be giving back in some way.

    • @paulpardee
      @paulpardee 7 лет назад +14

      So you're saying that it's OK for him to make money as long as he doesn't ask for it?

    • @paulpardee
      @paulpardee 7 лет назад +17

      www.dictionary.com/browse/begging
      Just thought I'd throw that up there so we both understand the term. He's not asking for a gift, charity or a favor. He's asking to be compensated for his service. So the only definition that fits (unless you believe he shouldn't be compensated for the work he puts into these videos) is "to ask (someone) to give or do something" or "to ask humbly or earnestly"
      So, there really ISN'T a difference in this context.

    • @paulpardee
      @paulpardee 7 лет назад +10

      LOL, maybe YOU should look up the word "extortion". And while you're at it, look up "troll".
      Are you feeling intimidated or threatened by the Professor? Do you need to go to your Safe Space? The mean Professor can't get you there.
      Is he abusing his authority by asking you to contribute something in exchange for consuming his product? I suppose the cashiers at the grocery store are extorting money from you every time you try to leave with a box of Cheerios.

    • @paulpardee
      @paulpardee 7 лет назад +8

      Not butt-hurt. Just amazed how much you liberals believe you're entitled to another person's work without paying for it. And before you start protesting "I'm not a liberal", bitching about someone asking for compensation for their labor is the CORE value of liberalism.
      Sorry, kid. Hate to be the one to break it to you.

I just went through a similar scenario last October so I know how frustrating and unnecessarily stressful this added burden is to you and your family. Your content has always been very much appreciated and you are one of the pillars of the MTG RUclips community so please keep on professing!

    I started watching your channel last week and I haven't stopped since. I've been on the market for new deck boxes and new deck cases and your grades for certain products and picking apart what they do have really helped me make decisions. I'm an avid Yu-Gi-Oh player, but I dabble in MTG. Your videos have inspired me so much to expand the community for Yu-Gi-Oh players. I'm starting a Yu-Gi-Oh club here at a Southeast Texas college called Lamar. You are partly responsible for this. because of your inspiration. I will gladly help out and become a patron. Good luck, Prof! If anyone deserves it. it's you

    I've been watching Tolarian Community College from almost the very beginning, and I have to say he is one of my favorite MTG RUclips channels, above Loading Ready Run and The Mana Source.
    Here we have someone who puts his heart and soul into his content, because he doesn't do it for himself. He does this for everyone, of all stripes and gameplay preferences, in our Magic community.

    For everyone moaning and groaning about how much money the Professor makes from the patreon, that total is not what he takes home. He has people who do video editing, sound, lighting, etc. Those people don't work pro bono. Every business has gross and net income. Learn the difference.

    • @Ydanay9
      @Ydanay9 7 лет назад +8

      Jason Kikel I'm pretty sure that he does lighting and editing himself.

    • @robahulme
      @robahulme 7 лет назад +1

      Not for everything, for example he doesn't do the editing for In Response (and that has other costs like talent costs too).

    • @TheRealWormbo
      @TheRealWormbo 7 лет назад +10

      He does the editing on most, but not all videos. Also that lighting equipment doesn't magically appear out of thin air for free and especially won't replace itself if it breaks - which it most likely will from time to time.

    Hi professor. I wanted to let you know that I donated $5 on your patreon to help you out. I'm not a regular viewer, just watch occasionally. I don't even play MTG or Pokemon TCG anymore. I watched you first on Boogie's channel with the pokemon pack battle and thought you were a cool dude and watched several videos about pokemon/card sleeves/deck boxes and thought they were entertaining.
    Anyways, best of luck man. I'm a student at a community college and my professors there have made a huge impact on my life/career, so seeing that you essentially got shafted makes me feel a bit bad that you don't have the opportunity this semester to influence others at the college.

    Look. What happened sucks. I get that. I know that you offer merchandise for money which is obviously an honest way to live, but I can't help but feel a little put off. I know that it is certainly not how you wanted to come off to the community, nor do I claim to speak for the community, but I am so tired of hearing youtubers asking for money to keep doing a relatively easy job as making videos that sometimes are paid for already. If that sounds a little misinformed, I apologize, but as someone going through medical school and constantly busting my ass year after year working harder and harder to make ends meet, I find it somewhat (and mildly) offensive that someone can make enough to live simply by asking for it in a sponsored youtube video. I will still continue to support your content through liking your videos, but that is all I will/can offer, and honestly all you should expect.

    7 years later, it’s been a wild ride and really still is, and you’ve held your integrity and your community focus. Here’s to many years to come, Prof.

    I’m about 8-9 months short to this video and I’ve only now known about this channel for just a bit, and already then I have been taught about many aspects of MTG and social TCG’s.
    Gratefully, I am very happy that I found this channel and that following this video your community helped to stabilize a difficult turn of events in your life. It seems fateful, because what you work on now with this channel is an incredibly welcome service to those friends/family who play this massive game together. Thank you.

    Rent an Office? Why not renovate your basement, It'll cost more but it will increase the worth of your house and be cheaper in the long run. Not to mention more accessible

      It's a reasonable suggestion. My concern is that to do such a thing might take months (there's MAJOR problems in my basement. Foundation level problems) and cost a surprisingly high amount. Finding a cool, small office for rent nearby might be preferable.

      Prof, there's a chance that you can DIY depending on the on the situation. Yes it'll take a little know how as far what tools to use and such; however, most estimates are free along with tools & equipment can be rented. I would suggest looking for someone to aid in your attempt - perhaps trying craigslist for a legit contractor - to get a genuine evaluation and estimate.

      TheBongSauce that would depend on what needs to be done, for example if the foundation needs underpinning that will run in upswards of 20,000 dollars.

      Remember that the professor had a flooding problem a while back. That may have caused more severe damage than he described back then and probably is a reason for the mold problem he mentioned.
