- In this video I discuss what I think makes fibromyalgia so complex. It's the gaslighting, the minimising, the delay in diagnosis and the lack of appropriately trained doctors.

In the U.K. here. I thought it was just a ”Broken NHS” problem, but apparently this is a worldwide issue. I was told that I likely have fibromyalgia, but the doctors told me that fibromyalgia isn’t a diagnosis, rather the lack of a diagnosis as to what the pain could be caused by. They wanted to blame it all on my mental health problems (panic disorder, PTSD) and refused for a while to accept that these conditions can actually go hand-in-hand.
It seems there is a lack of treatment for many of these complex conditions. I do take multiple medications, including beta blockers, which admittedly do help (a tiny bit, especially with symptoms like a racing heart) but it’s absolutely not enough. I’m at the point where I’m unable to even speak to the doctors without having a full-blown panic attack because of how badly I’m treated, which then obviously creates a flareup of pain. And It’s almost as if the doctors treat me as if the pain is my fault somehow.
This is why I get so frustrated when I’m facing a medical issue and I read ”speak to your doctor”. Why? So they can gaslight me and make me feel worse?
One thing I have found really helpful, which you may like to try are some videos on RUclips by Melissa M Reynolds. She does these excellent yoga nidra and yoga for chronic pain videos, which definitely bring me some relief and comfort.
In all seriousness, thank you for the videos and I truly hope you can find some better treatment options soon.
Sounds like a regular journey through the NZ health system with a complex disorder. I have a child with h-eds, cfs-me etc, 25 years of gaslighting before they diagnosed themselves. Luckily my new journey into fibromyalgia has been shorter, only 2 years until diagnosis, 4 years until ldn.
That's true our system isn't great. Sorry for your child's journey. Glad you've found ldn, does help you a lot?
The ldn has helped with sleep, which is of course a major issue. Beyond that, I am unsure. Thanks for your channel, only came across it last week, thanks to the RUclips algorithm.
So i guess low carb diet didn't help? Or did You stop before seeing any improvement?
I prioritise protein and don't eat more than 100g of carbs a day. So technically low carb but not keto. I've had a lot going on so it's too much for my body and family to do anything intense with food. Everything I do has improved my health a lot!
@@MelissavsFibromyalgia Thanks for the answer! I was trying carnivoire, but it was too hard for my guts for i'm starting with low carbs to see if it's gonna improve my fibro.
In my personal research I suspect the benefit that people get from low carb/keto and carnivore is actually from an appropriate amount of protein (at last) and removing the excess carb/sugars and seed oils. Perhaps that's a helpful start?
@@MelissavsFibromyalgia I think you are completly right and i would also say that low red meat consumption also causes vit B deficiencies. Working with a nutrisionist now to find a good balanced plan while eliminating cabrs.
