    It's really good palm for my 7 zone in Russian Nothern Caucasus. During two waves of cold (to 3F - negative 0,5F) from 8 jan untill 10 feb, my sabal minor was covered with a polypropylene bag and there is no damages at all.

    I love these palms,I have 2 in my yard,they are still very small (like 18 inches tall).I protect them just like I protect my trachys and yet they loose all fronds after winter.Not sure why it happens.Im in zone 6A/6B.

    Is there a reason that you withheld the variety names when you showed off each one (besides Louisiana)?

    • @tntropics

      I didn't want people to get too caught up in trying to get one just like mine because I feel many of the minors are so close

    How did you protect you Sabal Minor Variety Louisiana during the winter??

    • @tntropics
      @tntropics  4 месяца назад

      Tied fronds, a cover over stakes and a 90 watt flood light shining on it from ground

    We are in 6b can u give me specifics on putting it in the ground ie soil water sunlight, and some speicifics on how to winterize them for winter outside?

      South side within 3 feet house wall, protect under 5F for best results. Any soil, water frequently in summer but they can tolerate dry

    Hello! Can sabal minors grow in Pittsburgh PA? Our lowest temperature was 9 degrees Fahrenheit this winter. It did not ever go below zero here so I’m assuming you can grow them. Just wanted ask if they could. Thanks

    • @tntropics
      @tntropics  6 месяцев назад

      You won't be in the clear every year there and should grow a Sabal minor within 2' of the foundation on the South side of your home in full sun. Be prepared to protect if temps go under 0F for best results.

    • @TeaandCrumpets2233
      @TeaandCrumpets2233 6 месяцев назад

      Ok, thanks! My windmill palm grew this year without any protection and I only lost 1 frond. My trachycarpus fortunii is on the east side of my house since the sun rises there and the temperature gets warmer. Would the east side also be good?

    The ground temperature info out there is very misleading, ground surface temp is milder than the air but dig a hole anything an inch below didn't go below freezing here.
