Teddy's Nursery is top notch. I get all my palms from him.
Nice he’s really ramping up this year
Looks great TN, it's really incredible how your palms look all the way up there in Tennessee. Your Sabal Louisiana is real nice, I favor that Sabal because of its large foliage. You mentioned you lost just one palm this past winter and that was a Louisiana, I guess this is another one and this probably totally defoliated and came back looking like that? Wow.
This one was protected this year with a cover and a spotlight. Yes I had 4 Louisiana now 3. The others are smaller
Love this segment in your journey of Tennessee palm culture. If only I was a 1/2 zone warmer I know I would have better luck. In 30 years of growing palms, I always lost my big windmills in Tennessee because they grew too tall to protect but I never lost interest. You have some nice Sabal palms too but your Butia and Sabal Louisiana are magnificent. Thanks for spotlighting these and of course your Mule Palm is historical.
Yep I have one Trachy that I am going to let be on it's own this year except one strand around the spear maybe. Thanks for watching and supporting me
Thks for this. I now know I have a male, now to chercher la femme !
Nice
I’ve had a hard time finding Sable Minor Louisiana here in North Carolina. Any advice on where I could buy one that’s a decent size.
Go on facebook and search for Teddy's Nursery. He has seedlings of my Louisiana for sale. They are relatively small I don't know of any others offhand. Tell him TNtropics sent you
Glad the mule is number one!
I know you like that one!
All of your exotic collection is beautiful they all grow fast for you despite your location zone
Water and fertilizer help
I like #3 the best and right behind it #2. They all look great though. 👍
Yea #3 is the best Trachy. Thanks
@@tntropics It just looks amazing and out in the open it's easier to appreciate. I meant to ask how close to your house is the rocket palm? Thanks.
@@Palmguy24 2-3 feet
wow that trachy fortunia is a proper rocket, thats some incredible growth in such a short time, i planted 30 palms this year of different sizes can wait for them to take off! great garden and palms youve got there
Thanks for taking a look. And 30 new palms in a year--awesome!!!!
@@tntropics haha yeah really trying to build the structure of the garden, have gone with mostly trachys fortunia of various sizes most with a 1 ft trunk and a few with 4 ft trunks and one with a 6ft trunk, also added a 7ft butia oderata, small waggy x princeps cross and trachy princeps cross, a few washintonia robusta and a few chamerops hummilis, should be all hardy in my area of the uk im in zone 8a-b, this year going to add loads more tree ferns, already have 4 but they are such cool plants in my eyes, very prehistoric looking, not sure if it would be hardy in your area, but do you have any tetrapanax yet?
@@richardfrais_backyard_projects No tree ferns won't make it here. The tetrapanax would but I don't have room. All those are great palm choices for you.
@@tntropics ah yes i didn't think tree ferns would survive that far north without being in a permanent heated green house, the tetrapanax do grow big so space is definitely a consideration! ah thanks they seem to be some of the best palms suited to the uk climate, although i would like to try a sabal as well as a jubea, but the sabals are quite hard to source here and the jubea arw mega bucks 🤣🤦♂️
@@richardfrais_backyard_projects Sabals take a lot of heat and would grow really slowly there I think.
Man I love your collection! Hope to check it out in person some day. Looking forward to the winter updates
Thanks and come by any time!
Your palms are Stunning ♥️🤗☕🌴🌹🇺🇸
Thanks Jose i saw you are busy getting your's ready for winter
@@tntropics almost there my palms grew so much I have to build extenders on a couple of my palm boxes 🇺🇸🤗
I am in Jackson, TN, and I have a terrible time keeping my Wind Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) from freezing down to the ground and below, even when I do my due diligence in covering and protecting during our often very cold days here in west TN in Zone 7b. How in the world do you keep these from freezing out in your area of TN?
You will need to take a look at some of my palm protection videos for the answers. Subscribe and go to my main channel page on RUclips - Here is the protection section ruclips.net/p/PLpVDrk5W7jTev40miPmq28V9IcNwB05Zz
@@tntropics I am already a subscriber but may have missed that video and will revisit this. Many Thanks!
@@mikemillson9572 Thanks what size are your palms now and I might can point you to a specific video.
It looks awesome!
Thanks yes the fronds on this one are getting nice
Man that thing had a nice trunk to it.
Yea getting there
Mocksville is looking great! Unfortunately mine didn’t make it. Hope I can get another some day
Sorry to hear that
Love that palm
Thanks for watching
Stunning palm
Thanks so much
Huge frond
Yep
Great information. Beautiful palms
Thanks so much
time is coming i suppose

TN Tropics - thanks for sharing some badly needed information palm and plant growers need. Keeper !
Thanks for watching Rob!
great info
Thanks
I live in inland north San Diego county. And I am a full zone 10A, so cold is not a factor here. My Sabal's all died... Just out of nowhere, for no apparent reason, they would suddenly die. So I grow no Sabal's. They are among the palm trees I cannot grow.
As always great information 🤗🇺🇸❤️🌹🌴Hoping for a Mild winter
Thanks
Great video. I love bamboo
Thanks
Hardy hibiscus grow fine in zone 4 too, at least the varieties I’m aware of. I still can’t believe we can grow something with flowers that huge
Yes I had heard of some people in 4 having them, that's awesome
Sometimes we get a frost or ice in northern Florida (night to early morning). Should I wrap my Trachycarpus palm like this minus the lights? Or will they be fine without?
No they will be fine without protection in your area. My channel is primarily for people growing palms in zones 6-8
@@tntropics Thank you for your advice. Sometimes I overthink things.
How long can you have these palm trees put away for? Do you water them in the winter?
They can go without light for months if weather is cool under 55F or so day temps. No water
Thank you for this video. I have a couple of questions I would appreciate your help/advice with. I'm in Pace Florida (northern Pace) and my zone is 9a, formally 8b. I'm going to plant some 1 gallons in full sun next spring. Should I wrap and care for them when it gets really cold here? Also, my biggest worry is for them to get fungi or something like that and die. During the winter some parts of my lawn get moss. Should I worry about that? And lastly, when I plant them, should I add some sand to the soil mix? I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you for reading.
In your area no winter protection is needed. You should look into Sabal palmetto palms , mule palms and other Sabal palms as well in your location
As for adding the sand just plant in native soil
@@tntropics Thank you so much for your help. Last year it dropped down to 19 degrees fahrenheit one day but it was mostly 20s up. If I can find those other plants for sale (1-3 gallons), I will definitely buy them.
@@LemonDropYum In your area in FL people generally get Sabal palmetto in 10' or so size in the few hundred dollar range. A small Sabal palmetto nurseries in your area generally don't sell because they take 10-20 years to get big. But these can be found online. Generally in spring Lowes or Home Depot will sell palms in your area and have 6-8' overall height mule palms for sale for 125-$300. I recommend you plant in the March-May timeframe. I would call around then. Check Lisenby palms or see if there is another nursery close by to help you. There might be a couple other palms you like as well
@@tntropics Thank you for the advice! I will definitely check Lisenby palms. I used to live in South Florida, where palms are just a normal part of life that you don't even think about. Some of my neighbors have palm trees that look healthy, although I have seen some big palm trees that are completely dried and look dead. The trunks look like Mexican fan palm. I just wonder what they did wrong. I've also looked at the reviews of some of the palm tree nurseries around here and have read that some people's palm trees have died even after being guaranteed by the nursery (because they plant them).
Vườn của bạn đẹp quá 🎉🎉
👍 Thank You
Looks good! How did you do with all the rain?
Well over 5” but no major issues
These are everywhere in the south of England
Cool thanks for watching
Truly an inspiration !! Great job
Thanks
Looks amazing!
Thanks
wow it looks amazing! i got 2 windmills this year and just dug up tons of sabals that naturalized themselves at the library (don't worry they're seedlings im not stealing full grown plants) im hoping my cabals make it thru the shock, im keeping them in half sun and half shade and making sure they don't dry out. im also hoping my windmills got rocket genes because i have no patience and im scared that if i finish college in a couple years, ill end up leaving my parents house and they won't care for my windmills, although they most likely won't need any care unless we have a historic winter giving us single digits. Anyways once i have my own house, im hoping to have a yard like yours!!
Thanks so much and it sounds like you are on your way to getting some good palms going. The windmill's will def be faster
Love the tour. Do the pitcher plants stay outside? I would love to get some. I need more Sabal minors! Love your Butia.
Yes they are very cold hardy. The white ones are the only ones that did well for me.
@@tntropics do you know the specific name? And thank you.
@@newyorktropicalgarden9364 Sarracenia leucophylla 'Tarnok' from PD I had to go look it up. I planted 5 varieties and this one took over. The others were wimps plus I'm not too great with them.
@@tntropics Thank you!!!
Everything is looking great - as usual. I am still surprised by how much everything has recovered, but it definitely shows how healthy they were leading into that cold event.
Yes everything shook off the cold except 1 casualty
Nice!
Thanks
Impressive. What did you eventually do with it? I can't imagine wrapping it much taller than the 2022 height.
I still have it check out some of my more recent vids and subscribe for updates
Do you do anything special for the root area? How big was this tree when you planted it outside?
The roots get pine bark mulch. Most of my palms are planted 5 gallon ish this one was a 15 gallon size
Looks good
Thanks
About 4 years ago I purchased a Sabal Minor in Florida on a Vacation I brought it back has basically stayed stunted small I’m thinking now it’s a Dwarf I’m in zone 7B central NC
Nice probably a dwarf should be under 2' tall with mature fronds/blooming
Ab wann nimmst du die Samen ab? Ich hab auch welche an meiner Sabal Louisiana, aber sie sind noch ganz klein.
Seeds will be ripe here in November or so
I can't hear what you are saying.
Sorry I checked it and volume is a little low but you should be able to hear
Yeah we gotta do a trade at some point lol
Yep
wonder if it would ever revert back to it's larger form
I don't think so on these
What a beauty!
Thanks
I'd like to come by and get some seed from you this "seed season" in exchange for some Memphis Strain Seedlings
Most of the seed fell off and it only has guessing 30 on it. I will probably keep them. You can get some other minor seeds or seedlings for free if you want to.
Stinks that this was damaged really bad. Need an update

nice recovery, mine didnt fare so well... -6 killed my three little palms
Were they minors?
@@tntropics no.. they were windmills
