The Wellerman as a song can trace its origins back to the Weller brothers, a supply and merchant family based in Dunedin, New Zealand. Its first known actual historical mention was in a compilation by a New Zealand musician, Neil Colquhoun, in 1973. It is not Irish whatsoever.
Yup, I have since found that out :) that it is from New Zealand. But I am still unable to find the original artist. As far as I see it’s an old NZ folk tune
