- Since June 2023 there have been an increasing number of FN Herstal-made FN40GL 40mm grenade launchers seen in use in Ukraine. They have appeared in both configurations: under-barrel and stand alone. In this video we take a look at some of the sightings of the FN40GLs.

Thanks for watching guys, here's the accompanying article for this video - armourersbench.com/2023/08/13/fn40-grenade-launchers-in-ukraine/
Thank you for satisfying our nerdy gun curiousity. It would be really interesting to know more about KPV 14.5 mm machine gun. maybe some of your contacts in Ukraine can give us an educational breakdown and disassembly, there is very little info on it on youtube
Just curious would you ever consider doing a deep dive into body armour in Ukraine? It’s an extremely wide array of armour. Love the show keep doing what your doing 👍
@canadaisdecent1635 that would be a major project. If you or others would like to help out with collecting and IDing imagery of various plate types in use then certainly would make an interesting video!
Never thought I'd see a combat Springfield Saint paired with an FN 40mm
Pretty cool rig
Timestamp?
Ukraine is now a giant Battlefield game that has a diversity of small arms
Always been now it’s being captured by the eye.
@@TY-pf6vbdamn right
Call of duty and battlefield hopefully learn a hell of a lot about actual close quarter combat, and we can get the badass call of duty games back..... no stupid shit with jet paks and gay shit that wouldn't really be used in theater.
@@TexasTerpz27 your fuckin silly dude
@@TY-pf6vbA lot more so now with the influx of western arms.
One thing I'm genuinely curious about is which weapons the Ukrainian Military will settle on after this war is over (or goes into some sort of semi-permanent stalemate).
Because they're currently basically field testing almost all weapons available in Europe (and even other parts of the world), so whatever weapon systems they settle on afterwards will tell us a lot about the weapons performance compared to pricing and availability.
No weapon purchases are very rarely based on performance. It is usually a political decision based on various interests. Ukraine will probably buy most of it's weapons from it's own defense industrial base. And then some American /European weapons for political reasons.
Probably what they have the most of will be a major factor.
if they went full NATO i wouldn't be surprised if the FN MAG or Maximi was adopted.
I can see them keeping it local and negotiating a licence for the Bren 2 as a universal rifle.
This is on point! I wonder if they'll keep tons of different weapons for different units that need to accomplish different roles, or just settle on something they have a ton of that works best 99% of the time, and have like 2 weapons they basically use
Hopefully this conflict ends soon, and Ukraine is whole so we can see the answer to that question, and have one less "area of war" in the world
An interesting thing to note about the FN SCAR shown at 0:47 and 4:03 is the presence of a bayonet lug on the top of the FN SCAR's barrel.
These are the foreign variants which have a requirement for bayonet mounts. The US variants all lack this feature but there is a quick workaround. You can buy a DSA FAL Type C muzzle brake device and then pair it with the FAL type C bayonet to have a bayonet on your SCAR, (At least for the H variant. Im not sure about the L due to possible differences in barrel thickness).
Given that the base muzzle device on the SCAR is often just a three prong flash hider, you can only really get improvements from this modification, such as Shorter overall length (the muzzle device is shorter than the standard H military muzzle device) lowered recoil, ability to launch 22mm grenades and hey, Halbek device compatibility which according to Ian Mccollum, deletes muzzle rise so effectively it actually PUSHES the gun downwards depending on how you are holding it.
Either way, a SCAR with bayonet compatibility would be a very nice collectors item. I expect them to fetch a hefty price once they become museum pieces.
the scar camo in 4:45 looks CLEAN damn
A lot of them are brand new straight from FN.
FN makes a badass weapon system for sure. During OIF I spent a lot of time with the FN M3M/GAU-21 heavy macine gun. Very high quality.
Love the shoutout to Springfield Armory!
I would love to see a video about the Carl Gustav in Ukraine 👍🏻
I'm definitely tracking them!
I appreciate your work.
Thank you! Thanks for watching.
There seems to be a trend recently of favoring the standalone grenade launcher over its under-barrel counterpart. What are the advantages of the standalone versus under-barrel configuration?
Have been asking guys about this and some like the fact the weight isn't on the rifle others like being able to manipulate it quickly off the weapon. Others prefer to have it on the rifle and not have the added weight on their body. Standalone can also be passed around the squad too.
You could also look at it that they are not so popular elsewhere, hence why they are popular or just commonly seen, in Ukraine. They are available.
4:55 that's drip.. that's a vibe... That FN just looks like it is well loved and cared for, and I love seeing just how personalized some of these firearms look
This photo in this video is alone worth a like, and my continued subscription
Fascinating video, as ever. Thanks for your work on these, they're much appreciated.
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching
i have a 16 and a 17 and would love to get these but fml they are expensive and a pain in the ass to get (thanks atf) I was half tempted to put the airsoft launchers on my real guns yeah its dumb but I like its astetics .
Great video!!!
Thank you!!
A 07 to 'Gun Rain Man' 🤭 🤗 for another in depth & detailed, eagle eyed observation of the various small arms / launchers currently in use. * Of course, I mean this as a compliment. I'm a fan of your videos.
Great video TAB
Thanks!
Didn’t think I’d see a Saint in a combat zone.
Had you made a video with regards to the M72? I though I had one save on my playlists.
Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Will do :) thanks for watching
In the latter part of the last century FN developed a series of rifle grenades, called "Bullit thru" you could shoot these with normal ammo instead of blanks!( without blowing yourself up, that is..) They came in 4 flavours, practise, HE/ frag. illumination and even anti armour one! Shot these things myself At the test range in Herstal. ( together with the then brand new P90). Brutally effective! Never seen these things again. Selling undersling thingies is a better deal i guess.
The bullet through rifle grenades were already around in the 80s in belgian army stocks. The last of them were used up about 8years ago. They were awesome, it was basically individual level direct or indirect fire. Perfect for initiating ambushes.
@@cherrysnybor3215 I tested them myself, it is a mistery for me that they are not available today.
Excellent👍
I never got a chance to try one of these, but they do sure look neat. Like a cross between the M203 and the HK launcher.
das a pretty nade launcher very sleek
Aah, glorious Belgian craftsmanship!
Logistics must be a nightmare.
Good stuff.
Hopefully Ukraine gets many more grenade launchers to aid in breaking through prepared Russian positions.
Still waiting for the grot's in Ukraine video
It's coming!
@@TheArmourersBenchwell i knew about that cause you did said in that video, still waiting on it
I wish i could support your channel if I the funds. Love your channel. Kind greetings from an English bloke in Canada.
Thank you, really appreciate it. Don't worry! As I say liking, commenting and sharing it also really helps.
Wow
Hey sir, the last photo looks like it's from a video game, if you look at the Glock in the holster, the lighting, different camo mags in his chest rig and foliage just doesn't look right. Anyone else think it's fake?
In your January 29, 2023 video about the Ukrainian Army issuing the M16A4, you displayed the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade's photo op which showed several M16A4s equipped with the M203 under-barrel grenade launcher. Since then, has there been any evidence of the Ukrainian Army using the M203 in frontline service?
Yes, the 47th definitely used them during the start of the offensive I've seen photos/vids of them using them.
azov? one could think that they are the most experienced unit, luckily i don't have a clue.
I should've bought a CZ Bren 2 when I had the chance. Seems they are all going to Ukraine.
They’re still selling Bren 2’s. The ones going to Ukraine are military production, which is separate from civilian.
Hectic
(here's one fools brutally honest comment)
I say this separate from the conflict,
Cool, just cool, looks cool shoots like it's probably awesome to shoot
That said, I feel terrible saying something "looks cool" after seeing footage of it used in anger
But I defy anyone to hear this paradox and not be able to agree with both my statements
If someone can, then maybe I need to check my moral compass, because growing up shooting and hunting (for subsistence), they're just like tools, really fun tools, but still tools
I love a hammer with a wood handle, even if it might not grip as well, it looks and feels right for a hammer for me
and I love a Magpul grip on an AR because It feels like the right tool for when I'm just enjoying shooting at nothing I'll bring harm to
Man I hope this conflict ends soon
What pistol is that around the 5 minute mark?
A Beretta I think.
Still don't get why everyone insists on calling the Ukrainian offensive a counteroffensive.
I see you know a lot about guns of Ukrainian sof guns, ever thought of looking what the afghan national army sof used before the fall of Kabul?
Want one to fight terrorist in manipur india. Safety reason as current upsurge in manipur india
If it ain't AK, stuff it fanboys.
it looks annoyingly klunky.
Bloop.
Sr please if you can made a Video with information or pictures of the SA 24/26 SMG (posible in 30 tokarev caliber) from CZ, please i know that the Czech, give a lot of this weapons to Ukraine like military aid.
PLEASE MAKE A VIDEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! :)
Thnak you for your time :)
I think I've seen just 2 in Ukraine if you see some let me know and I'll happily do one.
The Nazis held genius scientists and tasked them with designing and overseeing the construction of more elaborate and complicated weapons.
The allies had scientists too but they also had backyard boffins making simple things with which soldiers could kill Nazis.
Safe to say that all modern small arms are in Ukraine now. No need for any more of these videos
Thanks for watching.
I love the "nothing to see here, move along!" cope
