thanks for this man
20:37 "it sounds like you're in a church"
That could be anything in the imperium....
Warhammer 40k is when your mech is 30% cathedral and another 130% mech.
Disposal Unit won over the players the quickest i've ever seen any music do it. The second the chanting started, the first time you heard it, you stopped paying attention to the dangerous boss fight in front of you and went "oh yo holy shit."
I feel the power in it and it makes me want to construct a railroad
@@Asterion_Mol0c hahaha
As a Zealot, it's only right as The Emperor as my witness to mosh pit the target as soon as Disposal Unit starts to play.
'Ate Chaos.
'Ate Xenos.
'Ate 'ereticks.

Luv me Emprah.

Simple as.
I remember reading somewhere that the lyrics sound similar to folk music because Jesper Kyd wanted to make a way to make the OST connect to your character. The lyrics are very folk-esque to remind you of the humble backwater roots of your character and where you came from before finding your position now facing down the dark horrors within the bowels of the Imperium
1:56:27 is the part with The Emperor of Mankind, in case anyone else came here looking for that.
The most unnerving experience I've had in this game was when the music at 28:39 started to play and suddenly a crowd of giggling zombies poured out of all sides and started chanting, in unison no less, "LIES! LIES! LIES! LIES! LIES! LIES!".
Poxwalkers are lesser daemons
They're saying blight, not lies.
@@NocturneNox1 plague bearers might be what you're think of. I dont think Poxers are considered daemons since they are essentially zombies whose soul is still trapped in their already dead and decaying body. They are forced to witness their horrible acts with no control.
"There's... Something... Crawling I'm my GGGUUUUUuuuuuutsssss..."
Thought they where chanting: “GUYS! GUYS! GUYS! GUYS! GUYS! GUYS!”
Ik this a year old now, but God the crew that made this game and vermintide steal me away with their music all the time. Almost each high octane track for tension has a rapid chug drum beat or almost a maraca like shaker to go along with the drum beat making it feel like that pulsing chug. Crazy cool, I'm pretty sure I've only heard these guys compose such music for a game really.
This may be more or less random, but your beard is magnificent.
Thanks!!!
I like how "Imperial Advance" and "The Emperor of Mankind" are opposites of the same kind implying the change of the Imperium from the Horus Heresy and before to the current state.
Also, the air raid sirens in "Imperial Advance" really give it that warlike and dire feel.
Indeed there is a video on youtube that combines the two. its truly godlike.
Darktide is def the best soundtrack out of any game this year
Darktide and Mechanicus OST have become my favorites, both equally awesome but capturing a different aspect of the 40k universe.
20:15 man got spooked
29:37 twice
1:08:29 thrice
1:09:44 fourth time

I’m so glad that Immortal Imperium is regarded so highly! I know a lot of people bring up Disposal Unit, but I feel such an incredible passion and connection when I hear Immortal Imperium. It’s one of the most energizing songs I’ve ever heard, and a testament to the stubborn defiance of the Imperium. It makes me want to learn how to animate, just so I can draw the images it evokes in my head. I also wish it was longer :’(
Realized you said you bought Horus Rising! Super cool, I hope you enjoy whatever you do end up reading of the Heresy lol. You don’t technically *have* to read all, some are self-contained or filler content that isn’t too important to the wider narrative (or any wider narrative) while others are kinda bad. Most people who don’t read every book tend to read specific key points; If you plan on reading up to the Siege of Terra there are a decent amount of key points you’ll need to read, but if you don’t you can kinda jump around following the arcs of various Space Marine Legions.
Instead of going Horus Heresy, I would recommend Peter Fehervari's Darkcoil if you like Darktide's music. Darkcoil is just a few books and short stories but I think they are the only one to capture 40k's cosmic horror them and atmosphere. Not to mention the pov are mostly normal human.
Vermintide 2's OST is also worth hearing in full. One of the best OSTs ever made.
Weird West, Neon White and Norco's OSTs offered fierce competition; But Darktide was ultimately my favorite soundtrack of the year.
It's impossible for me to choose a favorite track from V2 because they're all bangers
@@Janfon1 Escape and Panic is a pretty easy one for me but there's a bloody fight to get to the top for sure.
As far as books go, I currently read Gaunt's Ghosts series which I would recommend. They're great, and from what I read, they were the first series of books to really flesh out what the world looks like for the ordinary man.
I think Immortal Imperium might be my top new game song, the drums are KILLING IT in that one mixed with the sorta gothic organ and choir stuff.
Agreed
The harsh strings bring to mind Victorian London nights, like a dark Sherlock Holmes story or hunting for Jack the Ripper.
The choir in the main theme has vocal inflections that make it ambiguous whether they're chanting in Latin or Swedish.
What I love in addition to the dark synths and the pipe organ is the use of environmental sounds as instruments. Some pieces sound like they're from STOMP.
The character set I'm rolling with is Wasara the Veteran (The Hammer), Wasama the Psyker (The Bolt), Wamma the Ogryn (The Hurt) and Waldiaz the Zealot (The Ruler).
After you get done reading the Horus heresy you should read the Ciaphas Cain series. It follows the hero of the Imperium Commissar Cain, it’s a more light hearted series when it comes to WH40k
His books are also a somewhat good start into 40k
Just recently realized, in my rediscovering of Payday 2 OST, that video game music is such a unique beast in its creation and composers that specialize in it not only don't get the recognition they deserve but almost no recognition at all.
Take Evil Eye from mentioned Payday 2 OST. It's a killer song as it is on the official release, but in the game? You have a track that has to have a stealth phase, loud phase, assault phase, all in the same style but noticeably different from each other, being able to endlessly loop together without becoming stale and transitioning from one phase to another without seeming disrupting or forced.
That's not just music making, that's an art in its peak form and most people just go "Yeah, didn't really pay attention to it but it was alright".
So thank you for your channel, taking a look at all these underappreciated tracks and composers. Also, hope you'll look some day into any and all Supergiant Games / Darren Korrb OSTs.
Yup! And you’re welcome. ❤️
You are by far the nerdiest music nerd on RUclips, and I'm here for it! Love it!
I accept
I’m so happy that you’re looking at Darktide’s soundtrack! When I got into the beta I was taken aback by the music and was crossing my fingers that one day you’d look at it. Keep up the wonderful work, your reactions to OST’s are super insightful!
Personally the Emperor of mankind is by far the best track, it really fits the early Imperium during the start of the great crusade where the Emperor brought light and hope to mankind after millennia of darkness.
But it's also sad as it is a echo of what the Imperium could have been instead of the rotting stagnant carcass it has become.
I'm drawing while watching/listening to this commentary and music. Great! I love it!
Been hooked on your reactions lately. Keep 'em coming!
thank you!
would like to see stream like this about Vermintide 2
Okay!
Was really nice to listen to your insights and opinions about the OST and music composition in general. Thank you.
Stream starts at 5:55
Loved the stream, love the OST, love your reaction Marco!
Keep up the good work!
20:22 in 40k if you don't go to church the church comes to you!.
If you enjoyed Jesper Kyd's work on Darktide, you might want to check his collaboration with Einar Selvik & Sarah Schachner on Assassin's Creed Valhalla's soundtrack.
I didn't even played the game (I love vikings but this is more fantasy stuff) and yet it's one of the best soundtrack I've ever listened to.
I'm a big fan of Einar Selvik's work on Wardruna though, so I might be biased.
OH this was an absolute TREAT to watch! Ty!
Was eager to see the man in a suit but instead he comes out with a CHRISTMAS SWEATER
EVEN BETTER
Today is thanksgiving 2023....i watching this the first time and now want to ad this as backrground music to my years skyrim playthough...tonight is gona be a banger!
So this is 10 months ago but the fact that you reacted to the whole album is amazing dedication. I liked the other videos but this is definitely a hard subscribe for me and i hope others do so as well
Enjoying the hell out of this and will watch the entirety. Doing the breaks in the vid for each track would have been too much but maybe having what track you were on in small text in the corner? Love the reactions so far seen 🙌
Someone did time stamps below!
@@MarcoMeatball Wow, thanks for the video. Your theorising and interpretation of the music helped so much. Love the game but swear have listened to the soundtrack more, its stopped me playing the game at times. Gaming music composition is such an interesting thing to ponder.
37:46 Makes me jam so hard for some reason.
Im glad to see "Imperial Advance" was most replayed, Im glad Im not the only one that see what you thought of it lol. It's easily one of my three favorite tracks.
The imperium unites song sounds almost like marching to me, as if the imperiums forces and army are marching forward, crushing all opposition with holy fervor when the chanting and hymns come in
The horus heresy series is great, specifically the books leading up to The the Battle of Istvaan III and the Drop Site Massecre of Istvaan V. There are some legendary characters in those books.
I know almost nothing about music, but in the main theme I got the vague impression of children joyously singing in one of the background layers, which would kind of make a sick sense for Nurgle, who despite being the dark god of plagues and sickness, is like a jovial caretaker figure who loves all his "children" and showers them with his "gifts" (horrible symptoms and mutations).
Your reaction to emperor of mankind was on point haha. That's the one I keep going back to on the soundtrack!
Enjoyed your thoughts on the OST, I was thinking lately that i had to listen trough the full album so this was a good way to do that.
If i could make one request it would be to put the chat on the screen so it's possible to see what you're responding to.
I added playback of the live chat so that the screen was free!
Imagine syama peaderson who created Astartes film combined with darktide soundtrack. Probably my brains gonna melt because of too much EPICNESS.
The ost gives you the urge to do somthing stupid for the emperor
I wish i could have seen this when u streamed it live! 😭
Was listening to Last Man Standing after a late night shower. Went down to the basement and the power went out, was some freaky shit in the pitch black
HAHAHAHA
The composer for this did the soundtrack for Ixion as well! Would recommend it!
Shadow Warrior 2's menu theme is great, too
Hahaha love your content dude. Just had to say I also get an Italian Seth Rogen vibe from you. Keep up the awesome content!
😂😂😂😂
Great stream Marco! I really hope you do a full Cyberpunk 2077 OST reaction like this one ;)
Oh!
seconding this.
I don’t even think of Cyberpunk as a game alone anymore, it’s a genre.
Synth/Phonk is the best way I describe it
Its a crime Light of the Imperium is not on the main ost.
For something completely different in the warhammer reguster, try out the Shotas blood and teef ost. Tracks like Six Shottas, Bastion of valour and Last of house canorem are all stupidly fun songs that will take you completely by surprise if you got comfortable with the liturgical nature of mechanicum and darktide's osts
Oh yes I'll enjoy this.
Cant just smile&enjoy seeing another human being vibeing on this music
:)
23:15 I wonder if that sound is sampled from hydraulic pumps. I've heard pumps for large doors sound almost exactly like that.
I can't listen to Immortal Imperium too much. It's so good.
Imperial advance is done to the marching beat left left left right left
I cant wait to hear slaanesh inspired music from him
I had my whole house vacuumed by time 49 minutes rolled in
Also to comment on your comment about the forward movement in the songs. The songs are about a universe that is at constant state of WAR. So the songs reflect the march of the armies. Never ending. Never stopping. In constant movement is the WAR MACHINE.
I thought i was the only one getting the soundtrack it seems very religious ,the whole game we fight for the emperor!!
Would love to see and hear your reaction to the Warhammer 40k - Dawn of War II OST, at least the "Angels Of Death (Space Marine Theme)" track. The OST is classically orchestrated and sounds magnificent.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on some music from Phantasy Star Online 2 someday. Particularly the Esca Falz Mother Ridroid theme and Steel Prestige. They really are something, just composers getting their balls out and doing whatever tf they want.
Horus heresy gets patchy, i highly recommend gaunts ghost, last chancers infinite and the divine or eisenhorn. All are the BEST black library has to offer. Infinite and the divine in particular is a treat as a audiobook as the narrator is absolutely excellent.
In The Transit Horde track the hyperventilating you hear may be some kind of Inuit throat singing. If you listen to Tanya Tagaq you will know what I mean.
I can almost hear Hadron when Offworld Auspex plays
I find it interesting how Darktide's soudtrack gives me the same vibe as the Ordos faction soundtrack from Emperor: Battle for Dune.
I will throw hands if he isn't awarded at game awards next year...
Something I only just noticed is that The Emperor of Mankind(1:56:26) doesn't have any Organ. Because despite how much the Imperium worships him in the millennia after his not quite death, he never desired to be seen as a deity. An Absolute Monarch with absolute authority yeah, but never an object of worship. So HIS theme music doesn't have any organ.
Why yes, virtually all structures in the Imperium are at least part church.
And if you like that: the Adeptas Sororitas take it to a whole 'nother level, literally orbital-dropping churches and blasting hymns down onto battlefields.
Nightsider is my favorite!!!!
Some tracks remained me of some bladeraner ost
I'd recommend the Inquisitor novel Trilogies There's three of them.
I think personally you would gravitate to the Eisenhorn series as far as the books. There is something special about those books.
One of the OST that I will forever remember is the one for Dawn of War 2 Retribution. I would like to hear your insights into it and see what you would think.
You should check out KING STEPHEN's albums on RUclips. He does Rock-Music that resembles the vibes you get from Stephen Kings horror films which is why the he chose that name.
doing homework I had to stop and admire 1:56:26 FOR THE EMPEROR
I love your content; are you planning to listen to and analyze the pokemon scarlet and violet soundtracks? I highly recommend listening to the three Team Star themes; they're not quite operatic but they are incredibly good and I'd love to hear what you think of them -- especially in relation to the story of Team Star
I can down the road
I'm really interested to hear what you think if you do end up doing so!
The first one is straight out of the Witcher 3
Need to react on amazing first Dawn of War music after that.
At 43:00 it sounds like they mixed in Chihuahua barking to the mix
What do you mean nothing is comfortable in this world, citizen?! You've been provided with all the comfort you require to perform your duties for The Imperium in the service to Man by His Grace of the God-Emperor of Mankind!
We will tolerate no more rebellious and independent thought from you, lest you be handed over to the Adeptus Arbites! Ignorance is Bliss! Ignorance is Strength! The Emperor Protects!
Im sorry your grace
is there a video on the deepwoken OST reaction? I can’t seem to find it
It’s in music with opera singer
@@MarcoMeatball i see tysm
RUclips recently started recommending your videos to me, really liked it.
Can I offer you soundtrack to listen to?
Patreon is the best way - but I do read these comments!
@@MarcoMeatball, I would be happy to support your work with money, but my country's cut off from international payment systems due to its terrible actions. Hope you understand. :(
I'd love to see your impressions from the Crysis 3 soundtrack. Especially the track "What Are You Prepared To Sacrifice". It's very interesting what your sensual nature of an opera singer will say in response to it.
@@mad_prophet ill take note. ❤️
I hope you listen to Darktide Vol. 2! They just released it the other day.
Review Vermintide OST it’s so good too
Sorry for leaving a second comment, but, my version of Warp Traveller sounds different; I own the OST. Some major sections aren't there. Some other tracks are also shorter than they should be. Perhaps not important to note the mixing sounding off, maybe that's just a stream thing.
This was the RUclips playlist
@@MarcoMeatball I see. RUclips versions sounded a bit different. I recommend getting the OST for personal listening, really great stuff. Have been listening to it nearly every day.
Have u ever listen to Author & Punisher?
Marco i wish i could play Darktide with you sometime! Is it doable? It would be an honor! And I could teach you few tricks probably.
What genre would Disposal Unit even be? Because I want to use something analogous for my own streams without getting Twitch b**chy on copyright stuff.
God i feel like gothic something lol
Gothic industrial maybe?
Honestly I say you should definitely react to Rylanor’s Last Stand by Stringstorm
@MacroMeatball If you are looking for an artist who has really pushed what music can be you may want to take a listen to PengoSolvent. Particularly some of his older works where he plays around with clips of voices from games and shows and uses them as the interments for his music and a ton of his work is super surreal.
Cool!
