      Maybe if they were all singing silent night together or something like that with all of their voices mixing, some being good while some being horribly out of tune would actually be heartwarming to hear them all just doing it
      ( I personally think "we wish you a merry Christmas" would be a great one for that )

    I've never really been that fussed about the "Greeny Out Of Phase Middle Position" thing.. but this has me sold. The way it cuts the lows out and make it really cut is the perfect solo boost without increasing the gain or volume. Genius. (Apologies for just catching up with a 50 plus year old piece of tech!)

  • @CristobalMuerto

    Great video. From RUclips land, I didn't think that there was much between the '58 and '59 but the driven JTM45 seemed to suit the guitars more than the Fender.
    You've both got this expansive and fluent musical vocabulary. I'd really like to see an interview where you talk about how you've acquired your knowledge of licks, chord progressions etc. Is it from listening and copying other musicians, or playing covers in bands, from writing your own material, or from a more focused learning approach etc?
    I don't know whether you can do this within the confines of Guitar Paradiso but your jams are really *musical* and not flashy, so I think there's a lot of guitar players out there who would be interested in hearing about your approach to learning and playing.

    • @micktaylor8350
      @micktaylor8350 8 лет назад +2

      Thanks so much Cristobal. My vocabulary is so much narrower than Pete's. I became acceptably good at a young age and made the terrible mistake of believing I was good. Absolutely obsessed with SRV, playing three or four nights a week in pub and function bands. Then when I joined Guitatist mag in 1997, I realised that my knowledge was pitiful, hanging out with various players, contribs and so on, who knew so much more. Fast forward 20 years and while my playing has improved a bit, I'm still in awe of guys like Pete - Pete in particular in fact - who have this immense vocabulary but critically.... Who also have tone. They're rare and inspiring! To get good, I think you have to play with people a lot: Doesnt matter what kind of music or gig, just play and never stop. I sort of stopped a few years back (playing in regular bands) and it does nothing for your playing! It's all good though. Thanks for the kind words!

    • @danishpete
      @danishpete 8 лет назад +1

      Oh you guys... Thank you... But Mick, just to let you know, I learn things from you and your playing everytime we do these videos. you are a GREAT player and don't forgot that.... More videos soon..

    • @CristobalMuerto
      @CristobalMuerto 8 лет назад

      I think you're being a bit hard on yourself but Pete definitely has a rare touch. I completely agree that playing with other people is a great way to learn ... plus it hammers home the importance of getting the basic stuff right (I'm thinking tone, timing and playing something appropriate for the context of the song). I think I've been guilty of learning without understanding (if you know what I mean) so I struggle to apply anything I've learnt. There's lots of inspiration at Guitar Paradiso and elsewhere in RUclips land though, so as you say, it's all good! Enjoy the weekend when it comes and keep the videos coming.

    • @micktaylor8350
      @micktaylor8350 8 лет назад +1

      Thank you. I wasn't trying to be self effacing/false modesty or whatever. I just have an unusual view of the guitar world having done the jobs I've done. When you work around world class players day in day out for your job, it's a lot of inspiration, but also a very hard reality slap. :0) Make noise that you love, and nothing else. That's what I try to do these days. Including these vids as it goes - it's a lot of fun!

    suggestion - i think when you are comparing the sound of 2 gtrs, plug both axes in to a
    nice quality instrument switcher and put everything - pedals/amp - downstream of that.
    its really the only way to get a proper comparison and being you can switch so fast, the
    previous sound is fresh in your head. and yes, i did hear "don't need no doctor" by the humblest of pies around 15 mins in....thumbs up from hot sunny las vegas...

    Man. they have to be the nicest sound LP's I have ever heard! And I know that's a lot down to the hands that they're in (Mick and Pete, exceptional playing as always), but DAMN! The tone is absolutely extraordinary!!!!
    WHY DO THEY HAVE TO BE NEARLY £4k!!!!! ;o(

      I guess its like saying, "Man, Rolls Royce make the best cars ever - why do they have to be £250,000 each" ;)

      It's true but I'm infinitely further away from a RR (not that I'd ever spend 250k to drive a living room around), than I am a stunning LP. Not a criticism more a plaintiff yelp for my numbers to come in this Friday so I can do some shopping. Believe me, I appreciate the craftsmanship.

      I know what you mean. Maybe it would be better if the guitars were so expensive that you could just put it out of your mind. But Custom Shop guitars are expensive enough to be painful, but just about close enough to think about making some serious sacrifices to get one!!

      Will just have to satisfy myself with a trip to Andertons in the meantime and I can come and caress them and then not wash. At least I've touched one then ;oD. Who knows maybe this Friday it'll be me! Rest assure if it is, Andertons with be seeing a fairly large purchase... LP, Friedman Jerry Cantrell Sig etc etc etc...
