- 5R110W Transmission.
This transmission was brought to me for a pump replacement. After talking to the customer he decided to recheck everything and repair or replace any thing I may se that is needed. So this was a good opportunity to dust the camera and give you guys a video on this unit.

Mr. Hiram Gutierrez, you sir, just earned another subscriber. I've yet to find someone that goes this in depth on a 5r110w. I'm in the process of rebuilding my own and I'm just trying to arm myself with the knowledge before I do so. I read the whole ATSG 5r110w manual and I just learned much more from you sir. From the bottom of my heart, thank you sir for posting!! I'm about to watch Part 2. Again THANK YOU!!!!
Possibly a bad ground cable ! That is a common problem, it will toast the pump gears and everything around it! I love your videos!
Thank You! Great Video as always. I am 52 and you are teaching this old dog new tricks. Gracias !
Another fantastic video, Hiram! You'll never be without work, you skills will always be in demand.
I love watching your videos. Skilled workers are a joy to watch.
Great video Hiram, thanks for posting.
Thank you Hiram for your time in making the videos! Always great information!
Thanks again for all the info and how to getter done! Love to watch and glad to see something new! Can't wait fop part @.
Gracias! I really appreciate your time and expertise you share with all of us. You are the BEST!
good video. I stumbled on to it looking around. I have been a transmission rebuilder for 45 years. I have owned several shops since 1987 the 5r110 is a good unit, a lot better than the E40D ahh but I love to see an old C6 or FMX or even a C4 350, 400, or torque flight once in a wile. they make me smile and think of the old days,,,,,,,,,,,
Great to see you back. As always loved the video
It's nice to watch a professional at work.
and thanks for your videos cuz they help a lot of people around the world they can't afford to go have somebody like you rebuild their transmission
I've always been scared of transmissions! Watching your videos has shown me if you think about it, its pretty logical. Thank you so much for imparting your knowledge on your videos. I think I can try a rebuild on my 45RL 02 Jeep Liberty now. It's worth a try anyways. Thanks again Hiram!~Dale
Great to see you again Hiram, it's been a while. Thanks for the video and looking forward to the assembly and more.
Thanks Hiram. I've learned so much from your videos. As a result I've added remote inline filters to my AW70's and exchange the fluid every 20k. Sam
Very well done, Hiram. The video and sound were perfect as well as your expertise.
welcome back, thanks for the videos. GOD bless you
Imagine my surprise to see a new video from Hiram. Made my day. Can't wait for part two!

Thank you so much! Love this video and your knowledge. Your a life saver.
informative and we'll explain thanks sir I learn a lot you are transmission especialist
Thank you for making more videos! I really did miss them. Great work!
I built Automatic Transmissions nearly 35 years this man seems to know the craft,Theres a cpl wannabes here on YT the guy who ALWAYS tears them down but notice NEVER EVER builds one!.When a guy tears a unit down and places piles of parts in a certain order,He doesn't know how to put it together without doing that... BEWARE!.. That guy I was referring does that he flat doesn't know this craft😊,This man does.
Keep the videos coming. You are a doing a great thing. Peace ✌️
A really great job very concise

Love your videos!
Hiram, first time viewer... LOVE THIS! You take the hidden world of "transmission" rebuild/teardown and bring it to the masses. I can't say THANK YOU enough.
I'm trying to learn about the TCC DC % as mine shows 0.0% and my truck seemed to have a hard time pulling 11k of stone yesterday. How do I know if the TCC solenoid is engaging and the TC is functioning correctly?
Heading over to watch the other videos... again, Thank you HIRAM!
Good job my man glad to see there still a few of us left
Great video ...very informative nice thorough slow appreciate it sir be blessed 😊

greeting, and thanks for 5r110w info, and who is the we, you habitually say, its just you, and its a good job your doing.
middle-east Saudi Arabia.
As a trans builder for older units, I like these videos for the newer trans. For the very new guys I wouldnt reference any other similarities to the 4r100 . Otherwise, ROCK on.
Good to see the Guru himself is back in action, glad you also disabled the discussion section, do your thing bro.
excelente vídeo Hiram estarei sempre aqui no canal só do Brasil
Thank you, Hiram!
What year and model did that come off of?
Great video, Hiram!
Hiram: You can tell from all the positive comments that people love your videos and respect your work. I don't know how to get you more subscribers, but you are definitely one of the best RUclipsrs out there. I've told all my mechanically-inclined friends about your channel, and will continue to do so. All the best, and God bless you and yours.
Missed you man..
I was wondering what happened with,Glad all is bueno........
Thanks for posting the videos.

you must be very busy now, but it's great to have you posting videos again!!
I have been wondering where you have been! I always anxiously await your new video's!
Hiram Gutierrez ! Hey man I hope all is well with you! Hey just so you know
It always comes back to you. You have helped so many people including myself and I truly appreciate the time and effort that you spend in making these videos.
I will also add that it is awesome to see people find their purpose in life. I would bet that you love what you do simply because you truly look like you enjoy it and you are also a great teacher. God Bless.
Hiram, trust me when I say you have a loyal following. I look for your videos first when I come online to youtube. When you speak, rest assured We are listening!
good to see you back!! i think those that watch your vids are just mechanical geeks like me that like to see how things work. even though you are " spilling the beans"as you say, i doubt that there are too many people that will tackle the rebuild of a tranny. its just too specialized of a repair. what you provide is info to those that might encounter unscrupulous people that might rip people off on a repair. i watch a lot of these kinds of vid and your skill level is some of the highest i see.
keep up the good work and more vids please
you know, i've been subscribed for a while and to be honest most of the people who come by are looking for an answer to "shade tree" mechanic problem. Myself, i enjoy watching you work and checking for things i might not know. So yes we do appreciate what you do and enjoy the fact that you do it. :)
Da MAN is back in town. Go Hiram!!! I also noticed the orange gloves. Love the orange gloves. You've got to be a transmission rebuilding animal to kill impact wrenches. I would recommend an M18 Milwaukee Fuel 3/8" drive impact if you need to buy a new one. Dewalt has some new models, which for some strange reason are not brushless, (brushless is far superior) available if you are already locked into the Dewalt 20V battery system. I think you Milwaukee Fuel would be the better choice if you're not committed to the Dewalt battery system
Hiram, that's why I recommend the FUEL. Brushless motors are far better as they use electronics to replace the commutator and brushes used in conventional cordless tools. Your batteries last much longer on brushless tools as well. Brushless tools use an AC motor which is far more powerful than a brushed DC motor. The way they generate the AC is by using a solid state inverter to convert the DC of the battery to AC. The FUEL 3/8" drive impact produces 210 ft-lb of torque. You might be able to retire your I-R air impact since it has that much power.
Good to see you back Hiram!!!!!!
Interactive in what way? You planning on doing something like giving quizzes regarding things like giving a explanation of mechanical power flow in a particular gear in a certain unit, or if valve X leaks or gets stuck in this position, what would the symptoms be? Or would it be something geared more towards general transmission diagnostics? An example of this would be "A 4R75W is binding up when it shifts to third, what could be the cause?" Or do you have something else in mind to make it interactive? A word of caution if you're planning on presenting questions regarding general transmission diagnostics. If you're looking for a specific answer to whatever question you're asking, be detailed about the question, such as whether the fluid is burned or not, if other gears are affected or not, etc. otherwise, you'll get all sorts of wild and crazy answers. Looking forward to what you have planned.
You make the absolute best videos on transmissions; from troubleshooting and transmission operation to good shop practice. You've got the high road, Thank You!
thank hiram for posting this videos!
one of best transmission ever made.......
Tus videos me an alludado thanks
what do think about pulling the solenoids apart as in the latest gears magazine monthly. ..seems a lot cheaper than buying new oem...test for ohm and a nice fip-flop of the valve...hey???
Thank you! Subbed!👍
Hey Hiram, I love watching your videos. I've watched this video 3 times already. Just wondering have you rebuilt a 6r140 on the new ford 6.7?
Newest subscriber!
very very nice video Hiram iam currently having an issue with one of these it blocks rear wheels also it drops gear on freeway sudenly thank you
Hot damn! Finally! Cool!
Welcome back Hiram
What about electrolisys cause the pump gears to seize and crack. Bad ground seen a few.
good to see you hiram
thanks Hi rían g....nice video
there is NO way thats all going back together.................joking 🤣🤣 good show!!!!!!! ps new sub
need to do an allison 1000. Got some issues with mine on my 2005. Already know what it is, the way they were set up the C3 clutch pack did not get enough fluid to them and burned out and is also the gear in which the TCM locks up the torque converter. (As is the case with mine) will need to pull out and overhaul at som point
bad ground causing the gear to etch the plate ?
my th400 we built for my Camaro Scott reverse valve body with a trans brake works great it started blowing oil through the vent tube what could be the problem
Any recommendations on what trans rebuild kit for 5R110W,something for towing and a little performance? Thanks
Awesome video! Quick question, if my 5R110W won’t shift past 2nd gear, what is most likely wrong?
-Thank you
Hi Hiram, I have a question I have a 2001 lexus gs300. Recently, the engine light came on with a code that shows PO763 shift solenoid electrical. Does it mean that I have to replace the shift solanoid or is it an electrical issue? Would really appreciate a reply thanks!
Nice music choice!
I believe I have that same transmission in my econoline van. In only first gear it makes a whistling noise. Is this a bearing that can easily be replaced?
I recently replaced the whistling bearings in my alternator, although when i initially took it apart and greased it (which helped) there was nothing about it spinning it by hand that was crunchy or seemed to have anything wrong with it. So im wondering where the line in the sand is drawn between an issue or slight inconvenience.
I built this unit for the first time and this unit has a delayed engagement in drive and reverse. other than that it runs great, shifts good, down shifts good. the roofing co. is driving it for now, they needed truck. any idea on this .
My truck shutters on take off, what port are you pressuring to test the manual valve?
I need your help on a 2012 Audi A6 auto transmission. When car came to us, it would't engage in reverse, we strip the gearbox but found nothing wrong, means problem in valve body. What would be the cause of not engaging to reverse gear? Thanks in advance.
Im looking to replace just my TC and input shaft. I cant find any info on how to do that. Do i need to remove the pump and filter or just the tc and it will pull out?
Which fluid do you recommend for this unit mercon Lv or mercon sp. The only thing I find besides Ford motorcraft oem that maybe good that is aftermarket is the Valvoline Atf and it say LV......
I have a ? I recently rebuild a 5r110w from a 2004 ford e350 everything inside was done as the stag book says an I watched other videos an rechecked my wrk I have no codes but the only thing I reused were the solenoids I did clean everything well an it does shift good while running the only issue is when I shift from p,r,n,d it kicks any idea should I replace all solenoids or went thru my wrk 3 times still can’t figure it out
2000 integra won't remain engaged to engine. Would you rebuild?
The 5r110 is bad about welding the pump gear due to bad grounding issues best to run a ground from the case to chassis
Juan is right. Crankshaft end play could also ruin pump rotor. I have seen many no put Torque converter in correctly all the way in. Usually people without lift on ground .
Do you have a video for the 5r110w inline parkingbrake?
Hey how is it going, I took the transfer case out & the extension housing came out with the shaft is it possible to put it back ir I’m going to need a rebuild ?
where did the big chunk of pump gear that was missing go?
just got burnt on an overhaul. .had to pull the unit after 2 weeks.I believe the 2 solenoids that were ordered were bad..ie..epc and or the d solenoid were bums...lots of work
Hello good morning. I have a 2008 F450 pickup with that model of transmission. the changes it does apparently well. but it has no reverse. The strange thing is that when I put it in neutral, the engine with the transmission does not release. It even walks forward while in neutral. The transmission was working fine until it started with a failure of selenoid B, which is the overdrive selenoid, but it was driven like this for about 650 miles and when it came out from below we realized that the plug was simply loose, we put it back and poured the oil and well, we have the problem that I mentioned at the beginning. Do you have any idea what it could be?
Can a heavy duty converter affect the functioning?
nice.!
i have a 5r110 400k on it. early high gear shift at 70kph goes right into lockup . should i replace trani. thanks
Hey guy do you know how to tell which transmission you have between a 4R100 and a 5r110w ?
we really miss your videos ..
Only 3 days huh? Are all the grounds good?
A su experiencia porque sucede eso con la bomba de aceite después de la reparación? Me a pasado que en la prueba de manejo se rompe la bomba!
Saludos Hiram
Hiram, how can I contact you with a question regarding Part 2...I need to know if I remove the extension housing and output shaft, can I reinstall it in a horizontal position also?
Are you still working on transmissions, and where is your shop?
Thanks
