There’s hundreds of kpop groups
K pop started actually in the 1990s with a group called Seo Taiji and the Boys. The main CEO of a company called SM (still in business today), Lee Soo Man, (please keep in mind, in Korea, their family is considered more important than the individual of a family, so their last name goes first, and first name goes last.) Mr. Lee went to America and called every producer to find one that would help them create a sound that he believed the young ppl of Korea would love. He found one that responded and agreed to go over to Korea. This producer, you may know, he was part of one of the most popular groups of the 90s, even though technically they only had one hit. The group was Blackstreet, and the song was "No Diggity." The producer was Teddy Riley. Teddy went to Korea for many years and taught them the hip-hop sound. Teddy knew the sounds they needed, the bass drops, and yes, the rappers and Teddy knew that hip-hop had dancers. But mostly backup dancers, Korean CEOs changed that to dancers within the groups. The new sound exploded in Korea. But it wasn't until the early 2000s that it started to gain ground across the world. By 2011, it had a firm hold on America. I am 51, and at the time, my daughter and I went to a k pop concert even then in Las Vegas.
But it wasn't until 2013 to around 2016 when k pop really exploded in America, and by 2017, we had BTS debuting on not only an American stage but the Billboard Awards. And it has grown from there. One one point, around 2019, one in every 4 kids/teenagers in Korea were training to be a k pop star. And every years there are 100's of groups that debut, but maybe a handful are strong enough to catch the publics attention. There are acts that catch the eyes of fans outside of Korea. And groups that catch everyone's eyes like BTS or EXO (most popular male groups) or Blackpink or Twice (most popular girl groups).
There is a lot to k pop and a lot of amazing groups. It can be overwhelming at first, but trust me when I say it's like a blackhole, it looks overwhelming or even scary, but it sucks u in, and you will either turn around and get out or enjoy the ride.

Yeah, I think “written by the female gaze” is right for these kpop stars. Idols study fancams and fan reactions, see what the people like, and then fine-tune their performances accordingly. Unless they’re rookies, it’s not about what *they* think is hot, but about what the *fans* think is hot.

The one with the two-tone hair, with the neck, and the other one that u kept seeing with the "cheekbones." They are both part of the same group called ATEEZ. Two-toned hair is Wooyoung, and the one with the cheekbones, his name is San. Now, every k pop group have vocal lines, dance lines, and even rap lines. But ATEEZ is the only group that has a "Demon Line." The Demon line includes San, as well as the two oldest Seonghwa and our capitan Hongjoong. Please do yourself a favor, and u may want to check out a few of their videos, as well as a guide. They are an amazing group...and yes, I am an ATINY (fandom name).

Absolutely adore BTS and encourage you to continue your journey of exploring their music, especially as each of them is currently serving or about to serve their compulsory military service and so they're releasing individual music at the moment, rather than as a group (I suspect you'll love Jimin's SET ME FREE PART 2). KPOP has generations and BTS is third gen. This video, perhaps not surprisingly, is mostly 4th gen idols. I highly recommend you keep up with your BTS, but also explore ATEEZ and STRAY KIDS, who are creating something very different to the generations before them, as BTS continues to do. This is why these groups are huge and have a large international following, because apart from their talent and hard work they are usually saying something meaningful (and yes, they are absolutely all easy on the eye!). Outside of their music, all three of these groups also go out of their way to outspokenly support all humans on the planet - a message we really need to promote, and another reason why they're all popular. STRAY KIDS releases a new album on Friday (pre-sales are already almost 5 million copies sold) and ATEEZ releases a new album on June 16th, so you are just in time to react to these new songs dropping - enjoy!

I love how onlyoneof slipped in there! They’re a great group u should check them if u like to explore something ‘different’ within boy groups. Their music has always been fantastic, but they’ve been reaching more people thanks to their Underground Idol releases in which they explore mlm relationships, something they’ve first did with Libido, but this time each member had their solos connected with the love stories and it’s just beautiful. As a queer person my self I feel very grateful for the support they have showed to my community, and it’s just nice to see people reacting to them. I also hope you continue with your BTS journey, because I love them too and I know just how much they have to offer. Love your reactions, hope you keep with them.

I’m new to your channel. I’m Silver Army, 64 and love your journey. I found them at the beginning of lockdown. This song “Life Goes On” by BTS was my first video. I had just been given a diagnosis of stage 4 incurable Lymphoma, and other horrible coincidences that I was quietly distraught. That song gave me something to sing. I did so many deep dives and finally got to know the guys better (of course their stylists kept changing their hair color, which was tricky). Hang in there girl. Watch a few of their concerts online bc they’re singing solo right now as they head into military service. RM has an album out. J-hope, Sugar and Jimin all have albums out and Suga is out on his world tour. Hang in there because it’s worth knowing them and their message. Jimin has 2 new exciting MV out. I love Like Crazy oh and both new songs are in English.
