- It's time to fully start the road to my Ford GT! The 'Design Spec' ordering kit has arrived which opens the order window period ready for delivery at the very end of this year, in December. So now starts the process of working out how to spec it?!
Ford have taken a completely original and unique approach to the GT for their customers, by providing the carbon fibre box with racing latch that reveals the different 'standard' spec options that are available; the paint colours, strips, wheel options, interior trim and materials and more. It is both helpful to spec the car itself but also as a long term collectible with a space to place the chassis plate that matches the final car.
There is no question it's an expensive car; with a start price of £519,995 before options it will run up to almost £600k in total, so some serious consideration has to be taken about this. The story surrounding the Ford GT has been incredibly exciting, especially on a personal level having been at the global unveiling in Detroit, been with Ford as the GT took Le Mans victory in 2016, and having the most amazing first drive in the Cairngorms in Scotland. There will only be a handful of them on UK roads and it has to be one of the absolutely best looking cars in existence. There is nothing else really like it in terms of something that is literally built for racing and then reverse engineered for the road.
However, I think I am very likely to proceed, so here is the big question, how am I going to spec this? I want it to be something quite unique and stand out - for example no way is it going to be a resale generic spec. There are the possibilities to go for a completely unique 'extended palette' paint to sample, or even to do that with the stripes too. Options galore, but let's take a run through what we have as I unbox the GT order kit box.

For sure the red and white is a great combo, blue is also wonderful but quite common

Tim your excitement is palpable and should make the decision to go ahead 100% with this incredibly special car. My goodness imagine there only being 18 of them in the entire UK, and YOU are the proud owner of one of them...Mega to say the least. I hope you come to Canada for a "road to GT" series. Liquid Red with white stripes, that's the way I would have it. Maybe even consider the white leather interior, I don't know if I'd ever do white leather in a daily car, but in a car like that I think I'd consider it.

In my opinion you should definetily go for a custom color. For such a unique car you need a unique color! I think that a metallic bronze/orange would look really good!

If it were me, I would NO QUESTION HAVE to go for either silver/grey and blue stripes, or white and blue strips, with dark energy interior and carbon wheels. Such a beautiful car. There truly is nothing like it out there.
If you can get one of those special edition, I think its going to be timeless future classic!
Else, I would narrow down to:
- Liquid blue(no stripe/silver stripe)
- Graphite wheels and titanium log nuts*
- Satin Orange/silver brake callipers
- Light speed/re-entry interior package
Carbon trims on any car IMO is over-hyped, unless major performance difference; I would definitely pick satin one, if I had to.
*If you can't order Special GT editions' wheels in your own spec.

Get a PTS colour if you can like some deep red since you have very few red cars

Frozen white with lightning blue stripes would be my choice for the exterior colors. White wheels with blue calippers of course. Interior colors "Lightspeed" for sure! You are really blessed to spec your own Ford GT! Looking forward to see you driving it "in due course"!
White with no stripes. Satin clear bra on it. Black wheels. Carbon exterior. Orange calipers. Orange interior option with carbon bits. Very excited to see what you come up with for a spec and for the car to be delivered!
Match it to the 675. Orion purple with silver accents. Or, that liquid red. That is a pretty stunning colour! For my taste, as cool as they are, i'd stay away from the carbon wheels, simply because of the cost of repair. I also think the alloy wheels will be less common on the GTs

Great pack Tim. My choice would be the liquid red. But what would you think of it without the stripe, might look awesome. For me the stripe detracts from the car but that's just me. Good luck specking it.
Liquid red has to be the colour. As for the stripes white or black. If white go with the white leather a car like that needs to have stand out interior. Carbon wheels would also be badass. Tough choices to make by how I envy you. Good luck Tim looking forward to see what spec you choose.

Racing green with silver stripes? A classic British scheme on this car especially been so few here would be amazing. Or Gulf blue with orange stripes.

Might I suggest a relatively neutral center stripe? That way when you inevitably wrap the car the stripe will still complement whatever wrap you choose.
This one is easy:
- Extended palette body paint in LeMans blue, with the white stripes.
- Granite grey wheels with blue calipers.
- Light Speed interior (or maybe Dark energy)
That would be my spec. :D I wonder how close it will be to your spec??!

I personally think you should go for PTS Ferrari Giallo Tristrato with black stripes or something on the Ford GT and wrap the GT R in something more exotic, but your car your choice I suppose.

For me personally I would go:
- liquid red with the matte black stripes
- carbon wheels with the calipers in the same color as the car if possible.
- dark energy interior
- the titanium exhaust
600k for a Ford ! Don't get me wrong, love the new Ford GT, but was expecting 400k max. Big risk at that price I think. By the look on your face Tim, I think you do too 😁

karl peart You do realize the GT has actual racing heritage right? The 488 is just yet another limited edition Ferrari that is most likely noware near as good as everyone expects. The GT actually lives up to it's reputation and expectations.
Go ahead and buy it shmee!! It's worth the wait, you really want this because if not you wouldn't wait for 2 years. As far as the spec goes Liquid Red is my favorite with black or white stripes along with matte(if available) black wheels. Other option could be the gray with blue stripes and navy blue interior option with black wheels and with blue calipers. Cheers!
Liquid red, satin carbon wheels, dark energy spec would look awesome! And it's a very special car, you should go for it.
Don't know which options will be the rarest for long-term collector value, but one thing's for sure all-black with stripe-delete will definitely be one of the rarest more desirable options in the long run.

Blue with black stripes. Gloss carbon wheels, blue calipers. With the black and blue interior. It’s really an easy choice.
Go yellow and black with maybe some red pads and white colored rims. Yes, it may seem like a bunch of colors to the eye, but I’m sure it will sit beautiful in the sun
A deep midnight blue (such as on the older GT’s) and with a deep I mean a dark blue with a deep black pearlescent in combination with black racing stripes with a red pinstripe complementing the black stripes would look amazing.
That in combination with black wheels and a red contrast in said wheel + a red accent in your interior.
Maybe quite expensive but you will surely have a very classy vehicle.

Tricode yellow with liquid blue stripes! Then black alloy wheels, or carTon fibre if you dare, with liquid blue calipers. Interior should be the lightspeed because of the the navy accents to match the exterior. Some minor yellow details should be in interior, but that´s not a must.. Seat belts? some stitching? :)
