    Vai and Satriani are commercial successes because they found their market niche. I have heard them both play and unfortunately, what they are best known for represents only about 50% of their actual talent. If you can imagine that seeing these clips only represent the same of my dad's talent. He was constantly being told to tone it down for the listening public! Here's to you dad!!

  • @globalonemusic2381

    What most everyone is really missing is that Welk's show was taped live.
    Unlike the variety shows, (Carol Burnett, Dean Martin, Glen Campbell, etc.),
    with pre recorded rhythm and orchestral tracks....these boys did it "Live".
    They were well rehearsed, in front of a live audience and did it one take.
    Regardless of how "easy" the arrangements were (and they were easy) the reality the musicians and the singers HAD to well rehearsed to do these in only one or two takes. We will never again see a generation like them. :)

    • @FYMASMD
      @FYMASMD Год назад

      Actually you are completely wrong. Everything was prerecorded in a studio one to two days before the airing of the show. If you watch almost any documentary on Welk you will here that mentioned. Mind you it was in the sixties and seventies when this was done. It was to ensure flawless movement of the show. Research it. You’ll see. It wasn’t necessary though because these guys were excellent musicians.

    • @globalonemusic2381
      @globalonemusic2381 Год назад

      @@FYMASMD I was referring to the shows that I mentioned in my post.
      Roy Clark and Buck Owens owned Hee Haw. They never taped in front of an audience and could tape 13 episodes (half a season) in just two weeks.
      THAT was the way "to do business". :)

    Heard Buddy play in the orchestra but never heard him solo. People call me a musician but I always say, "I'm no musician, I'm just a guitar player". Having also played 2nd trumpet in high school band, I knew the difference. Buddy & Neil were musicians. They knew if they didn't see sharp they'd be flat (get it?). Our church organist, Bob Ralston, went on to play for Lawrence. He's the one who played the organ on the song "Baby Elephant Walk" in the movie "Hatari" starring the Duke.

    If Les Paul is considered father of the electric guitar, these guys are the GREAT uncles!!! So influential and prolific. Buddy's still making music and Neil until his death. You just don't know how many things they played on! Made me want to play...for the pure joy of it! Opened the door for guys like Glen Campbell and Roy Clark to host their own shows. True pioneers in entertainment!

    Hope y'all don't mind, but here is a copy of what I just posted on the other version of this ('68 Welk show). I didn't realize this 1966 version was there along with the '68 Welk show appearance:
    I just happened to stumble on this gem. What a treat! I've been a lover of music as long as I remember first crawling around while Mom cleaned house listening to rockabilly and country on the little radio back in the late fifties. I've fooled around with a guitar for 40 years, and I play and sing in an oldies 50s/ 60s rock and country band. This is the first time I have heard of these guys. Thanks a million for posting it!

    "Outstanding KETAR MAN".......
    Here Buddy is playing a fifties era necked Sonic blue Strat while Levang is playing his own mahogany bodied Telecaster, later stolen and never recovered.
    Levang, as a younger player also used via rental, the original Bigsby prototype standard guitar.
    There is an onstage photo bof him with the guitar.
    Levang would eventually become the sole keet,uh, guitar man on the Welk show after Merrill's departure.
    Levang had been brought on to fill in during Merrill's military service in the early sixties.
    Although Levang stayed on the show for years,
    Levang and Welk didn't get along and Levang didn't mask his distaste around Welk.

    Outstanding talent playing cheesy earwash for dumb ass TV masses. But then these guy could play anything and frequently did regardless of whether it was worth playing. Fortunately Merrill has put his incredible talent to good use elsewhere.
