Seems to me that Sarah had the control. She had the house, the car and the phone. She told him when he should call his kids, when they should sit on the porch, when it was time to move inside to do puzzles and when they should do art projects.

I love Judge Kraynick. Owens is delaying things with experts coming in late, a lot of side bars, general antics, interrupting Dr. Harper and guiding the narrative with Boone and Dr. Harper. Judge is doing well in not giving a reason to appeal but also shutting down the antics.

      I worry he doesn't have a choice.
I am pretty sure he is not exactly a Sarah Boone fan.
BUT if he was to show that in ANY way.. he would put the whole trial at risk.
He might even give her way more than he would for someone he does like just to make sure that he gives her NO reason to appeal..
Sarah's whole "defense team" will pick up at anything that can get them a reason to appeal like bloodhounds and I guess NO ONE wants a retrial because of an appeal or a mistrial less than Kraynick..
And when she made up this lie about him saying he would end her ...what should Kraynick do?
It is NOT my habit accusing people of lying but not being able to even remember she took those videos but remembering EXACTLY down to the last detail why the time BETWEEN those videos made her fear for her life is not believable to me.
But I am a private person and free to think whatever I do..
Kraynick has to follow the law.
To me he did NOT look happy but saying "Nope I deny the battered spouse defense because I don't believe you."
I would guess that that would be pretty thin ice.
We don't have a jury in my country but if I understood the US-System right, Kraynick can only check IF the reason Sarah tells for her defense is "enough".
If it is believable.. I guess THAT is for the jury to decide.
I mean... I don't like it but if I look to the Delphi trial and see the exact opposite:
A judge that tells someone accused of an unspeakable crime that he and his defense can't even speak of certain defense "tactics"..
If I was on the jury in such a trial and AFTER the trial I would be informed that there where other possible suspects and motives but the defense was not allowed to even speak about those..
I would be furious and would feel extremely used..
They call in the jury to decide what THEIR judgement tells them about how close the prosecution came to proof what they say happened...
As a juror I would expect a judge to let me decide if I think a story is believable or not.
If anything the defense WANTS to tell me MIGHT raise reasonable doubt.
      So yeah..
I am VERY worried that Sarah might walk.. especially since the jury doesn't know all her shenanigans and history...
But a Judge deciding what the defense is allowed to tell the jury would not be a fair trial to me.
Not fair for the defendant but also not fair to the jury who was told the THEIR judgement is what is asked for.

I grew up in an abusive household. Early on my mom fought back, later she made herself small and avoided him. (As did I).
Now I'm pretty sure I can spot an abused woman. They tend to talk more softly. They make themselves smaller and they avoid conflict, ESPECIALLY with the abuser. There is a fragility (and quiet strength) to them.
This was a MUTUALLY abusive relationship. She was an abuser before she met Jorge (see Brian's police interview). One of them was going to die eventually if they stayed in that powder keg. it just so happened to be Jorge.

Not ONE of them would ever claim that psychology is an exact science with objective diagnosis...
That is just not how psychology works.
And psychologists like that lady in the stand..
It would be nice to remind the jury that it were "experts" like her who wrote nice psychological reports that ended up getting Jack Unterweger out of prison early..
The only serial killer Germany, Austria AND the USA got to "enjoy"..
He murdered one (more likely two) before he was sentenced to life in prison.. and we might never know HOW many lives he claimed after he got out on the basis of optimistic psychological reports that obviously weren't that "objective".
And sadly there WERE forensic psychologists who warned the courts and one of them even told them that letting Unterweger out would mean to "try" if one can write the story of the greatest rehabilitation or the greatest serial killer..
And here in Germany as well as in Austria we DO have a prison system that does believe in rehab more than in "lock up and throw away they key".
Unterweger would have been one of the very few who meet the criteria to possible never walk free ever again.. instead he was let out and took a lot of lives.

Not to forget that we can only here ONE side of the story.. because the victim of DV.. the person who was controlled in every aspect of his life is to dead to tell us his side of the story..
Not even mentioning how he died.. begging for her to allow him to breathe without sounding angry for one moment.. only trying to calm HER down.. Trying to REACH whatever humanity might be somewhere in her..
I am not aggressive..never was.. but even I would have found a way less docile way to talk to her while she watches me slowly suffocating..
      But killing him wasn't enough..
Now his reputation needs to be dragged through the mud while she never shows an inch of remorse or any emotion at all (other than how sorry she feels for herself and how mean it was of Jorge to die such an awful death to become such an inconvenience to her).

Judge Kraynick has asked Sarah, several times throughout this trial, whether she is happy with her defence team, is she in agreement with their trial strategy, etc. I don't recall seeing that in other trials I've watched. Is this common? I wondered if Judge Kraynick was trying to safeguard against appellant issues in light of her history with previous attorneys.

It was not threatening to Sarah, only the tv, and I speculated the tv was broken and they had the drunk idea of beating it up before throwing it away. After hearing the sound I think it was more my idea than him scaring her. Like I said, she has had years to embellish stories knowing what videos and pictures she has.

I've thought this watching in the moment, like what? That's it? But in hindsight, I think the state knows what it has and the facts speak for themselves. In a way Jay is playing a good foil for the defense's theatrics and distractions. Getting straight to the point, no nonsense. In a way it makes the jury lean forward and pay closer attention and the rebuttal will hopefully make them see that they were misguided by the smoke and mirrors of the defense. There's hammering in the point and there's losing the jury by repetition. The shock value of the videos and interrogation gets lost after its initial impact. Pacing of the state's case is slow but I think that is by design.
