    What do you guys think of the Lurssen Mastering Console? Buy it or Pass?

      I got it in a group buy. I love it. I just don’t like anything by computer mastering, it’s not what my favorite ME’s used or still use. And this is probably as close as digital gets to analog.. I’m guessing impulse responses with some dynamic algo’s on top. That’s why it doesn’t have ways to adjust.. And that’s fine, better than no IR’s and maximizing to fit a sprectal analysis like “mastering programs” use (blech!). Sonically this is pretty up there. assuming it’s IR’s then yeah that’s about as good as we can expect. I just like that I’m not looking at a nerd screen of analytical tools begging to be applied. It’s music, not a science competition

    I love this plugin, it can really top off your master in a subtle & very musical way. the way the EQ & compression work is perfect for my layered poly-rhythmic sound. I used it to brighten up & kick the gain up only, I usually mix to an almost master ready sound before I drop it in, and Lurssen brings out elements that may have been mixed too hot...give it shot, I guarantee results. I've gone back and remastered dozens of tracks.

    Hey man, I like how you gave a couple uses for it. No it's not good for a standalone mastering software, however, it can be used on vocals to color them, and to color during the master process. Those 2 uses are really optimal. But great video man. I love how you give insight with plugins that we creatives don't normally reach for. Thanks bud.

    If you put input drive to minus 2, you will have a better reference about the color... just as a suggestion. Love your videos!

    i have done my fair share of mastering, and the key thing is how you listen, when you bypass and insert the plugin and it's 6 db louder you really can't decide if your mix is better or not, because our brain is stupid, louder = better. i would have liked to hear a matched gain comparison. and hitting an internal limiter i have no access to the attack settings ... not my cup of tea. same reason i don't really like the artist pluings like cla or manny maroquin type plugins from waves, although for goofy effects they are ok, if you don't know what they are doing and can;t modify it, it's pretty much hard do dial in specific problems. same would be with this plugin. maybe the best way to use it is find out where the threshold is and not hit it, and then insert your own brickwall that you do have control over. sorry for the long rant.

    Hi. I bought the plug-in but I'm really puzzled -- I see a lot of videos about the plug-in on RUclips and they all seem to have headers that I don't?? My headers stop at the Lurssen logo but you have three more headers above that -- how did you get them and what are they for??

    you guys confuse me...what is the makeup gain for if can not be used to match the final loudness to the unprocessed signal if needed...??.

    Can you please explain the export process,,where does it go ? You get three options , hit one and then nothing.

  • @sjmusicgroup

    How can you remove the line noise that comes out of this plug-in?

    • @DolbyAtmosMixing
      @DolbyAtmosMixing  4 года назад +1

      Not sure there’s an option for that. If you’re getting noise it may be the plug-ins you’re using before the limiter section.

    I'm guessing if you a have a all around good mix this be good it dose make the volume loud prolly gotta add a few other plugins.its jus seem easier for those who get frustrated with ozone an them

    • @DolbyAtmosMixing
      @DolbyAtmosMixing  8 лет назад +1

      Yes, while Ozone is an engineer's toolkit, this is much simpler to use with great results.

    This master plugin is going to be loved by musicians who want to get their songs completed and share with the world. The key to this plugin is good mixing. Once a song is mixed well it will sound awesome almost no matter what preset of Lurssen you throw at it.
    Unless you are going for top mastering awards trying too hard ( beyond mixing). to polish your song is a waste of time and inspiration killer. Overall I really think that mastering is in most cases well over rated. This is a perfect for mastering music most of which makes little income. Mastering snobs will hate this plugin.

      This comparison thing is often taken too far. If it sounds good release it. If we keep comparing masters and nixies and referencing too much we are largely making music sound the same. Compare if you have to ( for good reason) but watch out, if you compare for the sake of it you will increase your anxiety and feel that you are rubbish at what you are doing. Remember your fellow musicians are not your customers, Your audience are your customers. Spend time getting to know your audience and what they want. Is it brightness, bass or vocal presence. Once you know this deliver! Don’t worry about what musicians and mastering engineers say about your mix. Usually they don’t count and they won’t pay your rent.

    • @DolbyAtmosMixing
      @DolbyAtmosMixing  4 года назад +2

      Good point Calvin. I've learned that experienced engineers know when to leave it alone and not have to fiddle around the mix when it sounds good. What I like about this plugin are the macro controls to make the song sound good overall. Thanks for sharing.

    Two minutes in you talk about surgical EQ and stereo widening. These are mixing tasks, not matering tasks. So that tells me you probably won't be able to tell me anything useful about mastering with this software, so no point my watching any further. Sorry. You are a nice chap. Good presenter.

    • @checktheneck

      This plugin is based on the mastering analog console, the left and right channels in the analog console are not identical to each other, and this gives a slight stereo expansion. And they moved this property to the plugin (you can check it using plugin doctor). So actually it does do a little stereo widening. And it does it about the same way as a professional MASTERING console does. So you and your snobbery are not really showing yourself very professionally in this case.

    • @kadiummusic
      @kadiummusic Год назад

      Not every mastering job is as you describe. Sometimes it involves restoration of a stereo track and you have to deeper than you would for say a stem mix. 😎
