Look at how casually the Matilda’s defenders jog back….allowing Hatch to run into the box and score that easy goal….No sense of urgency from the Matilda’s whatsoever……

Agreed, that goal was preventable, defenders looked lazy to say the least, no excuses with only 3 minutes into the game.

The defending on that first goal was horrendous. No awareness whatsoever that a USA attacker might decide to run into the box. Bizarre really.

Lol were going to be embarrassed at home come the world cup. Say what you want about Stajcic, but he was a great coach and the Matildas had a very clear style of play that was built on possession and a high press from the front. The current system and our defence is woeful. That first goal should've never have gone in. The teaching from the central pair, and the keeper's positioning was absurdly amateurish. Who even let's a 2nd runner into the box, let alone unmarked?
The Matildas, just like the socceroos, have regressed over the years. NT Football in Australia is in danger and if we don't fix the systems in place from 1st Div all the way down, unify all the teams to play under a single system and create strong academies for players and coaches, Football domestically and internationally for our country will die a long, painful death.

Yup, the Matildas were going like a house on fire and were the only ones being a real threat to the USA at #4 in the world when Stajcic was there, and then the still unexplained sacking that came out of the blue happened and it all fell into a heap almost overnight. That's when they started to concede goals for fun whereas they had been solid at the back under Stajcic.

Just about sums up our team really. The US were playing without 8 of their players from the Olympics, so nearly a second string team. They beat us 3-0, and the only way we scored in this game was from a massive deflection against the run of play. Doesn't really fill anyone with a great deal of confidence.
No creativity, massive holes in a slow defence and no one running forward for attacking support. They must be taking their cues from the Socceroos.
