It just shows how hard a game of football is . The rivalry between our two nations is just awesome . Next friendly should be a belter. The Kiwi goalkeeper Victoria deserves player of the match reward. Would love to see gielnik get a full run , she is an underrated player , with her figure in the front line will do a lot of damage , she is very skilled but we dont see enough of her.
I have been watching men's football for 40 years mostly Seria A but this is how football should be. Love women's football ❤️❤️❤️
Have done the same switched to the womans league , they are getting better with every season . there is too much going on in mens football . It just gets boring.
Seria A isn't good football. Need to watch the Premiership or the German league for decent football
@@jonpowell8503 I watch English football, don't care for German league. I talking about men compared to women. men football has become too Hollywood
Their games tend to be more open as women don't have the stamina of men, plus the keepers aren't 6'6" giants so there is often more scoring. The standard certainly is improving.

I was at the stadium last nigh. Great game. Almost walked out thinking the Matildas had lost this one. Thought to myself, well I am here so might as well stay to the end. What a finish.
Did the same watching on tv , switched of at 89 min , did i get a surprise in the morning .

Great entertaining ending for the average punter and the average punter is exactly who you want to watch and support the team! They’ll improve it come World Cup. One thing you can always count on is the matildas making things entertaining and Sam Kerr taking big moments in her stride. Should be whacking these but in the grand scheme enjoyable watch and better for the game getting returning viewers

@@paull9087 could be wrong but i think mark believes the diving header Kerr did will always get her to hit the ball first (aka never fails) but its highly risky because despite getting the ball first there is a chance a defender will kick you in the face... how did you interpret mark's comment? Its an effective technique for getting to the ball first but it opens you up to facial injury
Starting your run in from the edge of the 1/2 circle will act like a ball in a bowling alley. Surprised its not used, probably would destroy the game.

Yep, it was a friendly, but it was good for the excitement factor to score two goals in injury time.
Friendlies are supposed to trial combinations, blood some new players, identify what needs to be worked on.
Coaching staff hopefully might have a couple of sessions on finishing in front of goal & give the subs a bit more time than 5 minutes in 5 days time for the 2nd game.
Great goal from the kiwis. It was no fluke; you don't attempt to hit a cross like that, hitting the ball at the top of the bounce to impart the curl into the goal mouth.
By the 63rd minute I turned off the game not caring about the result. A vid on the post match press conference came up as I was trawling RUclips this morning and there were three questions I would have asked Gustavsson.
1. Was it his tactics to have his midfield trio of Catley, Raso and Carpenter ignore Sam Kerr and Kia Simon? I don't think there was a single ball to Kerr's feet in the whole of the first half. A player that takes on defences all the time spends most of it watching the ball sail over her head.
2. Was it Gustavsson's tactics to have Raso, Gorry and Catley try useless and powerless shots from 30 metres out than pass to Kerr or Fowler in the second half. With a gaping goal Raso took on the Kiwi keeper rather than square the ball to Kerr. Problem is, like most amatures she looked straight at the keeper and hit the ball into her.
3. Why is it that the best crosses and square balls came from Kerr? Carpenter, Catley and Raso rarely take the ball past the defender and cross it. 90% of the time they can't even lift the ball. The best cross is from the by line with a slight curl away from the goal on the edge of the six yard box. These girls can't do this. Even worse, their corners are rarely played to a target player in the box. More hit and hope.

Should have won by 5, but may have lost due to a mishit cross. A loss would have been a travesty of justice, but the Matildas have been in decline ever since FFA assassinated Staj and blew up its most successful product in the process.

The only thing that both men and woman national is to be able to put the ball in the back of the net we have lost many games because of this the NZ keeper was outstanding but when shooting from so close to the goalmouth you have to put those shots away very good game by both teams

Hello!! This is the NEW ZEALAND women's team. The Matildas should be easily winning this. Imagine what would happen against Germany or France or England. So a year out from the Womens World Cup this is definitely scary. Australia needs to shape up or they will not get out of their World Cup group stage.

@@jackmorgan1677 As I commented elsewhere, it's an NZ team with additional motivation in view of the upcoming WC on their home soil. Aussies should definitely make it out of the group but considering that it's a home WC, it won't be good enough. They'd need to reach semifinals to call it a success

Women's soccer is so much better to watch than the men's. They don't seem to take dives for one thing.

It took them the 93rd minute to score against New Zealand. That's the form they are in at the moment. Women's and Men's National teams in very poor form.
The Aussies were not really competing with them most of the game, they were kind of relaxed, Matildas wanted to put themselves under real pressure with minutes to go, as you can see they pulled it off nicely.
Looks like they had quite a few chances, just were unlucky with them until the added time. Let's not forget that NZ should now be extra-motivated, too, as it's their World Cup as well. They don't want to be smashed by stronger teams so I guess they would be trying an ultra-defensive strategy with making 100% use of their chances - which nearly worked in this game

This current group of Matilda’s is their Golden Generation and when they retire we may never see another group as strong as this one…..They were one of the favourites for gold at the olympics but ended up with nothing, so I wouldn’t praise them for finishing fourth…..

I think the Aussies played kinda of selfish, like every one of their shots should have been a pass to the more open player and it would have been a higher score line.
That NZL goal was not stunning, it was sheer dumb luck. Good to see the better team won in the end.

@@Hank222777 Nothing absurd about the comment at all. The Matildas play exciting, attacking football with a great deal of tactical cohesion, fluency and creativity. The Socceroos, under their current manager, are listless, moribund and clueless in comparison.

As they don't need to go through qualification this time, how can we judge where the team is at at the moment? Friendlies is all we've got to go by
Friendlies don’t matter but international matches do they determine your ranking in the fifa table higher ranked teams will be in pot 1 for World Cup and so on
