The trachea and the esophagus are different things, and the esophagus is what the corn dog goes down - it is impossible for the corn dog to enter the trachea without significant trauma to both the corndog and throat.

Might sound silly but ive got the same problem. Try holding your thumb inside a fist, and squeezing it. For some reason is helps supressor the gag relex letting you brush your whole tongue At least it works for me, hopefully it helps you too
