I’ve learned so much from watching your videos! One of the best tips I’ve taken away front them is the importance of basting. I’m in the process of completing 3 Aria and I just can’t get over how beautiful my necklines are after basting them first. Your knowledge is priceless. Thank you for sharing it with us❣️
Great info . Love these types of videos along with all of them . How grateful we are to have someone like you who offers their expertise willingly and freely . We have learnt so much from you . You have done a lot for the sewing community.
"The person who cut it was just not having a great day." Ha ha ha...you are too funny! I see that type of cutting every time I go into Joann Fabrics here in Texas. Thank you for educating all of us about rayon. Love this video!
Karina from Brazil 🇧🇷❤️!!! 🌹🌹🌹😘😘😘 I wanna thank you very much 🙏 for this master class video!!! I've just got 3 rayon fabric pieces to make 3 dresses 🥻🥻🥻for my daughter... I've never made any 😂.. hope they turned out to be very nice after all your tips ... Thanks again heaps !!!! Hello from Australia 🇳🇿❤️🌏🦘🥰 and I'm Russian BTW 🇷🇺❤️ I wish you best of life, Beautiful ❤️ Lady 😘😘😘🌹🌹🌹 ... you are wonderful..
Hi Karina.. I've being sewing for years but one often becomes jaded so your masterclass is ways welcome. Thanks. I watch from beginning to end and it does not matter how long the video is. Your effort is greatly appreciated.
I have heard other sewing You tube channels praise your channel and recommend sewists watch it. You are the best for teaching fine sewing and fitting techniques! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for all your hard work and time in this very informative video. It is really appreciated and has taught me a huge amount and I've taken lots of notes to study. Keep safe and keep sewing.
OK, all I can say is that you need to write a book! You really know how to teach In such an easy to understand way. I thoroughly enjoyed all your videos and I learned a lot from you.
This is the most helpful video. I have learned so much. Any time I have questions or am stumped on a way to sew a garment I know you will have a video that explains exactly what I need to know. Thank you so much for your "Rayon Movie"...lol...I loved every minute of it.
Dear Karina, you are a genius teacher in addition to being a very experienced tailor - so well structured and friendly bringing over of so much knowledge is rare. Thank you from my heart, you saved me from doing a lot of mistakes. Please keep teaching!
Thank you for this very nice video. Good explanations, demonstrations, and great tips. I have been sewing for 50+ yrs., yet always learn something new from you! You have such a pleasant personality, too. It is like sewing with a friend when I watch your videos. 💕 God bless you!
Thank you Karina for all the information on Rayon (Viscose) in your Master Class. This fabric is my next project goal. I will be watching this video repeatedly. From all of your videos the number one thing I have learned is to be patient, take your time and enjoy the process (even the picking out of seams) 💕
You are amazing and love your attention to detail and how you actually share and show those little details on camera. Learning so much from you! Grateful 🌻
Great tutorial!! I have been sewing for 60 years and I learned several new things. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us❣️. Love watching your videos!!!!
About to sew with rayon challis for the first time. I've known *of* squaring fabric before cutting and sewing, but never *how* to do that. So from your video, I'm going just pick a spot on the edge and cut, and then rip it. (This is why I bought the $2.96 stuff, so I'm not ruining a more expensive yardage! I have to tell myself it's just practice fabric!)
Thank you Karina, this was so helpful! I am so glad I found your channel! I have missed the clothes I have had, because I didn't know how to take care of my Rayon!
I am very happy to discover your channel. I consider myself a semi-advanced seamstress and have still learned new things in your in-depth classes on techniques. Hadn’t done a collar with stand in five years, and used your reverse collar sew technique yesterday with great success. You are a great teacher and structure the videos as a real class. That takes a lot of work! I agree 100% with your habit of hand basting. Pins can distort picky areas and get in the way at the machine. 1-2 min of quick basting assures better results and saves time & fabric damage.
Karina, a fantastic comprehensive lesson as usual. Your videos are such a great resource for sewists worldwide. Thank you. Now I feel confident in using the crinkle rayon I’ve had for almost 2 years now.
I haven't sewn in rayon much but I do sew silk satin and silk chiffon. I wouldn't even try it, without first heavily starching the fabric. I use old fashioned powder starch which is only available in one supermarket in my city. Makes a huge difference and rinses out easily when the garment is finished. Good for acetate lining too.
Some new tips for me, thank you. I have two hints: 1. I found that straight pins used for insect collections are super fine ad won't deform the fabric. 2. I use spray starch along seam edges and selvages to firm up the fabric before cutting.
I just bought some rtw skirts and 1 dress to upcycle.I didnt realize they were all mostly rayon. I really had to take my time on them.Luckily they all turned out really well. I believe its because I have watched so many of your videos. Thankyou for all your tips..
I've said it before, but once again: you find the most beautiful fabrics! I love sewing with, and wearing rayon, but it definitely can be somewhat difficult, time-consuming and even frustrating (especially cutting out the pattern) to work with. I had no idea you can tear rayon to get a straight edge. Thank you for the time you put into sharing all of this knowledge. This is a premium video. Definitely master class.
Loved this video. I have been so afraid to try rayon for sewing. I feel more confident now on handling the fabric. Thank you Karina! I love watching you and really enjoy the sew alongs.
💖👍🏻👏🏻Thank you so much for this!!! Soon I will be using rayon fabric for the first time. I feel more comfortable and confident after watching this. I know that I will be using it often to refer to.
I would also like to add my appreciation for all your hard work which in turn helps us achieve so much bettr results. Your videos are a highlight of my week, Im totally hooked and I could not be happier! Onwards and Upwards! xx
I learned about the tearing of fabric from quilting. Everything needs to be square when you quilt and what a waste of fabric and time when it’s not.❤️❤️❤️ I tear too!
An absolutely AWESOME, INFORMATION PACKED, COMPREHENSIVE, FANTASTIC video!!! Thank you so much Karina for willingly and freely sharing your wealth of knowledge! I am so excited to have found your RUclips channel, and I can’t wait to watch and learn from your videos! Thank you for your generosity!
Thank you so much! I just bought 10 yards of beautiful brown slub linen-look rayon suiting on sale and I'm looking forward to making some great summer basics out of it. This video has helped a bunch!
Wow, your video is packed with so much important and useful information. Thank you! I took notes on everything (almost) 😊 Now I can go back to the rayon garments that I gave up on and see what I can do to finish and wear them.
Karina Querida…thank you for this very educational Master Class for Rayon. Very thoughtful and comprehensive. I learned so many new things that I didn’t know. I gained much respect for this fabric. Keep up the excellent work filming these videos. Hugs from south Florida, USA 🦩🦋🧜♀️💃🏻👗🌸🌺🌹🌼🌷💋💨
Hi Karina, Fantastic video as always. I’ve learned such a lot, especially getting the cut edge straight and serging fabric before washing it, what a good idea. Also, viscose is my favourite fabric, but I didn’t realise it was quite so sensitive to heat, lots of good advice on that, thank you. Really enjoying your videos on collars and tried your method on the little mandarin collars to much success. My next learning curve will be watching your video on cuff plackets and then trying it out. You’re so accomplished and very generous to be sharing your knowledge with us all. Marie 💕
Thank you! Rayon (challis) is my all time favorite fabric. I have learned learned over the years how to tame it! I pre wash and put in the dryer. Moving forward I machine wash the garment and dry on a rack. I press when it is almost dry and it looks and wears beautifully. For narrow hems I use 1/4 inch doubke sided fusible tape on raw edge then fold it up and top stitches perfectly.
Thanks Karina - so much useful information. I HATE basting, but I did it the other day as there was a tiny Karina on my shoulder telling me not to be lazy. I realise half the reason I hate doing it is I always end up sewing a little bit over it and then it's difficult to pull it out. I obviously need more practice!
In Europe it is also known as Viscose. Oh dear ! it can continue to shrink even after the first wash !☹️ this I did not know and this is scary ! I agree. I save these for future reference. My memory isn’t what it should be so saving them helps. I rewatch when I am actually ready to go.

Thankyou very much, will be so helpful for what n I sew my first rayon garment soon. Cheers from Fran in Oz
A terrific Master Class. Thank you Karina.
I love rayon! I always put my rayon garment inside a laundry bag. It protects the garment more, imo. I also do the same when I prewash the fabric.
Thank you! Rayon (challis) is my all time favorite fabric. I have learned learned over the years how to tame it! I pre wash and put in the dryer. You are so welcome!
Excellent I appreciate your tuition so much.
I have avoided rayon since a horrible wrinkly experience with it in the 1970s. I am willing to take a second look on your recommendation, Katrina!
I think it used to be more wrinkly back then when the fiber was developed :)
Basting is your friend!
Thank you so much for this comprehensive video. I love viscose, but it is difficult to sew. I wish I had known these methods earlier! 😊
In Europe it is also known as Viscose.
Oh dear ! it can continue to shrink even after the first wash !☹️ this I did not know and this is scary ! I too air dry as I live in a hot country but I hang them on the line ☹️! I must try flat drying ! Great video. I love the visual examples. Thank you Karina .
The first shrink will be the greatest. Therefore, the styles shouldn't be too fitted. We want ease so the little it gets smaller is not too noticeable.
I learned so much thank you. Amazing video.
Your videos are great and soooo much fun! Gracias
Fantastic “movie!’
Thank you so much. Have a couple pieces ready to use.
Yay! I hope you enjoy your fabrics.
Thanks for your video. I have recently brought many rayon fabrics on special and was scared to use it, until I saw you video.
You are such a blessing to all of us. Thank you for sharing so much information and your precious time.
Such great tips! You’re amazing. Rayon is definitely part of the slow sewing movement:) thank you for such wonderful practical information.
I have been sewing with rayon for years and had not heard of many of these techniques. All of them would have helped me so much! Now I am empowered. Thank you so much!
When pre-washing, add a color catcher sheet to pick up excess dye. They are usually available in the laundry aisle, and look like dryer sheets. They do a great job of preventing dyes from redepositing on other fabric.
I live in Brazil and have never ever seen the product you mention over here :(
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles You might be able to find a type of detergent called Synthrapol, sold with dye or tie-dye supplies. It isolates the dye particles in the water so they can’t deposit on fabrics. I’m a weaver and dyer, so I use both Synthrapol and color catcher sheets regularly. Thank you for your great video about rayon. I weave with rayon and Tencel (lyocell) yarns quite often.
I love this video!!! Very informative! Rayon is my favorite fabric, but it is really tough to work with. Thanks for this very detailed vid, i have learned a lot of tips 🫶
I've learned a lot, yes was very helpful. As I type this I'm working on a rayon dress for mother's day. My biggest struggle is serging the edges. It always seems to be so bulky when I use a 4 thread. So I practiced and using a 3 thread was better. You have definitely influenced me to try French seams. I love rayon too, my favorite. Brazil looks so pretty, I love listening to learning RUclipss while I sew. Thank you so much!!!

hand baste and use a walking foot (is that a good idea, or will that pull the fabric too much?)
The walking door will not pull on the fabric. It might make sewing a little slower but in general it’s a good idea to use one.
Love your vides Karina.

This is so helpful! I learned on cotton in 1965, on Mom’s black straight-stitch machine. I don’t remember ever changing the needle unless I broke it once.
