  • NASA's DC8 Airborne Science Lab participated in the PECAN (Plains Elevated Convection At Night) field research campaign, lending it's LIDAR and related atmospheric sensing equipment. The crew departed Salina, KS for an all night lawn mower pattern to sample the pre-thunderstorm environment for characteristics of the incoming air feeding the little understood nocturnal thunderstorm complexes known as MCS or MCC's (Mesoscale Convective Systems or Mesoscale Convective Complexes).

It's a worthy goal Wolf, hopefully involved in more field campaigns soon.
