I love Puerto Rico...I had many happy vacations with my family as a teen..My brother would ship his surfboard over from New Jersey and we go to Rincon...So he could surf...My Dad & Mom would rent a car and we would all squeeze in for the ride to the other side of the island..This older lady would cook chicken on the side of the road with rice & beans...It is still the best chicken I ever had... It was around 1978....Happy times....Happy New Year Mikey & Christine..Enjoy Puerto Rico with your family... The food & People are Beautiful.....

Ok hear me out. You NEED to try the pizza from Puerto Rico. Any place. Also, go to a bakery for desserts and amazing sandwiches. The hot dog/hamburger stands are legit amazing. If you see a food stand while driving around, get some fried foods, bacalao, alcapurrias, surullos, and more empanadas with different fillings. Low key the Chinese food from there is amazing. Ahh I'm so glad youre visiting a place im from!
EDIT: Please of course try our normal foods too like arroz con gandules, pasteles, pork, etc.
YESSSS the Chinese food is AMAZING. Also the place that was first visited is the BEST and my family and I always visit there first!
Chinese food is amazing anywhere in the Caribbean or Latin America due to the fusion. Guyanese and Trinidad have the best Caribbean Chinese food I think but PR, DR and Cuba also have good Chino Latino food.
He is already out of Puerto Rico he is very ahead of schedule

Mikey, the sand is black because of crushed Hematite and Magnetite (this stuff is magnetic hence it's name)
The house is gorgeous, but the first thing I thought about was the feast the mosquitoes would have if I were there 😂 I’m allergic to them so this would sadly be a no go for me.
It truly warms my heart to se you relaxing with your love, celebrating your birthday and just doing what you enjoy. But still eating plenty good. So wonderful.
Mickey, I would have recommended Culebra. It has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Food great and very good people
Vieques has Sun Bay, Media Luna, Red and Blue Beach, Black Sand Beach, Seaglass Beach, the Biobay and a few more secluded beaches with amazing views and some privacy

Been to Puerto Rico a couple times to catch a cruise, but we spent a couple nights there pre-boarding, and I miss it there. Also stayed at thr Doubletree, but it doesn't look like the dame one we had (mind you it was 14 years ago).

When I think of food in Puerto Rico I still crave Mofongo and Flan. Any time we go I have to have these 2 food items. Love the people there and can't wait to go back.

It's a shame you didn't try the Puerto Rican food. Rice & beans with chicken.
I am a diver and took for granted I was able to eat lobster and fish anytime I wanted and it was free!

I’ve been to the Caribbean I don’t like the warm water lobster very much, but the shrimp is amazing! And as far as the vacation house with no windows I would’ve gone crazy! I don’t like bugs or anything like that. They should have mosquito netting around the beds!!

One of my friends gave me a recipe for Mufungo years ago. She said it was African of origins and considering the history of Puerto Ricco it’s interesting to find it here! Happy BIRTHDAY Mike and happy New year Mike and Christine ☺️🎉
Sounds right. There is a similar dish in Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic.
We have African ancestry. It really is not surprising that our food is inspired by the three cultures that collided to make the modern Boricua.
While Mofongo was created by Angolan slaves it is most definitely a Puerto Rican dish.
@@jasmanypadin2728 Mufungo is completely Puerto Rican from what I understand. The Puerto Ricans transformed the original version and came up with their own. My friend from Côte d’Ivoire refers to it as Foufou and although this original African recipe is similar to the Puerto Rican Mufungo it is definitely different. The key words here are : « African of origins « ☺️

Thanks so much for showing the bug spray! Living in an “open” house means you get the fresh ocean breezes but also all sorts of insects. Also keep in mind that the ocean breezes are not always calm lol.

As a Puerto Rican it makes me happy that you decided to visit the island. I just wish you opted for more authentic foods, sincce Mexican tacos aren't really a Puerto Rican dish...
Viegues is beautiful, but I think you’d like Culebra better - much easier to get around, better food choices , smaller island with more to do .. and Flamingo Beach the most beautiful beach in the world. Also, if you ever go back - get an air conditioned house - the mosquitos can be brutal in Puerto Rico

LOL Mike, when you said 'gracias de nada' at the food trust that means "thanks for nothing"... You're just supposed to say gracias, then they say de nada, which basically means 'no problem' (literally 'of nothing', as in think nothing of it)
