Finally did it. Found a nice 14K gold ring and some other nice treasure. But, Christine reminded my I still have not found a Barber!!!

It detects gold links separately on jewelry, so fine chains arent much of a signal.

I was wondering if you had any additional comments on the Manticore's ability to detect gold chains? I realized many detectors struggle with the ability to pick up gold chains and right now, I use the XP Deus 2, but have not come across the gold chain to even detect - if I knew there even was one there.

Thanks... always nice getting out. I pulled up to the beach and immediately saw someone detecting... Always seems that way now but I don't mind because nobody can hit it all... and wow, it was nice finding the gold ring. Still the best thing about the day is being out at the beach and taking it all in... treasure is a bonus and the gold well that was a super bonus... almost as much as the tent stakes..lol

Well all that jewelry is nice Bill but did you find a merc? Lol. I have found several chains just like that gold one and they just don't come up on the detector. Haven't figured out why really but it's almost like they're made of stainless steel. Very strange. Good hunt though!

You mean the mighty manticore has trouble detecting the chain… I’ve been told that the legend is terrible at finding chains, yet I’ve found plenty myself using it. Just funny when someone is brand specific and starts the common bashing of other brands. I would love a manticore or 900 or deus 2 but the price is what stops me. I think no matter what you swing there will be times you might miss a target where as other machines might pick it up depending on settings and the such. I honestly think there is very little difference between the 3 big names on the market.
I agree... I think most of the machines have trouble with things like the chain I found. I think people have their brand favorites and just because you don't like a detector does not make it bad. We are planning on taking the Nokta detectors out the next time the two of us can hunt together at a beach. Just need to go over the controls again...been a while. I think I will test the chain on them just for personal knowledge.... I do like my NOX but would take any detector and enjoy what I do...

Hey Bill I don't think you should compare all the other hunts because Christine was not there at those hunts to defend ,but do think it was a awesome hunt. Will let you know that it would be a good idea to use the all metal mode when checking out items on your hunt's you switched once and I did hear the grunt but it seemed that you dismissed it. Any keep it up and make it fun and Happy Hunting 🙂👍..

Drifting cars and drift wood trains lol. Lots of armless fun. Some nice jewellery but that gold ring was a beauty. And multiple silver is always cool. No fun had here

Watching the video without sound, I wondered how such a high ID was possible on a necklace...Reading through the comments I realized it was a fake 18K.
I am still evaluating the Manticore today and will not give in to the temptation to purchase until I am certain of the allocation of the low conductors.

I was and it gets hit a lot... actually seems like most of our beaches are getting detected heavily now....
@Diggin' SoCal Bill and Christine, I do pretty well at our local beaches during the week. It seems that regulars and "full-timers" hit the beach on the weekends. I see metal detecting tracks at the towel line and all around the firepits. I'm starting to recognize footprints. I think there are even people who metal detecting as their full time job.

@ 3:42 onwards..........this is precisely why I have a love/hate relationship with my Etrac.
It will not give any response at all to gold even when you touch the coil with it.
I'm extremely methodical and thorough when I'm detecting so I'm convinced I've missed a stack of gold targets over the years.
I was hoping that their Manticore would be the answer but.......obviously not!
Bill that’s crazy that both machine wouldn’t hardy pick up the chain, I believe you said it was 18k gp which it should have, and I too wonder what it’s made of, but any way kudos on the ring and other awesome finds, thank for sharing
I once looked for a large pendant for a friend. I visually located it, but was surprised to see it could not be seen by my Vanquish 540, just like your gold plated necklace.
Upon research, I discovered that there is some stainless steel, that is so non-conductive, that a metal detector can't see it.
I would assume that the necklace you found was gold plated over stainless steel... just FYI

Mate get 15 ins coil. That gold chain i got a chain that size but half dia came up -- 11 on xterra pro 14 ct true ghost chain work that out. Lol 😂 ps that young lass needs a tonka truck. Lol what a honey.😊

Double check that necklace! GP means gold plum which is a higher purity as it was made directly from a bar.

Can't argue that. My friend currently has my Ace Apex and only uses Garrett detectors. His was down for some reason so I sent him mine. I have never tried a Whites.

Yes, I have an unfair advantage....one good find of hers beats me ten fold based on time hunting...lol. I am getting better with the Manticore and I think whatever was the base metal of that chain was not very easy to detect. I am sure there will be more opportunities in the future.
