    When I was young I hunted with my grandfather. My grandmother taught me that Mullen is natures toilet paper. The velvety leaves made it soft if I ever got lost. I know this isn't a medicinal anecdote, but it's just one more positive aspect of the plant.

    I've been growing herbs for many years and I'm over 60 now . I will never stop growing beneficial herbs and other plants. And especially pollinator- friendly plants. I don't put out hummingbird feeders anymore because I grow what keeps them busy every year 💯 I even grow mullien and other wild herbs as well as milkweed and such

  • @AmberPlans
    @AmberPlans 10 месяцев назад

    Completely agree on the foraging aspect you mentioned. For me it’s been accessibility (I’m disabled and also have access to limited species as a result), also not having the confidence to pick the right plants, and finally just the high pollution/dog walk routes around here. In the garden all that can be controlled 😊 Another element though, is that I want to ADD to the number of herbs growing and use my land to repopulate vegetation and ecosystems and habitats that our modern way of house building had demolished. That feels even better in supplement to foraging what nature has still managed to keep growing in current times 🥰

And chew on the poppy pods. I have not seen none many years. I did not know you could purchase them thank you for sharing this I love the idea of having herbs. I'm not really having much success with them. I haven't seen a lot of seeds around here I'm from North Carolina. Herbs and such. But I do have a few of them.

    Hops is in the Cannabanaceae family. This is the same family as marijuana. Hops has great pain-relieving abilities. It attaches to the same cannabinoid receptors that marijuana does. I make a tincture, put it in a spray bottle and spray my back with it. Works instantly to stop pain.

    I'm in tune with nature, love looking and identifying plants, flowers, trees, and insects. I don't really have medicinals growing in my property, naturally. I will say though that the rabbits, squirrels, and birds do a very fine job of dropping and burying seeds, leaving behind lots of the plants that I have heard you speak of. So glad for these seeds being available. Especially if we are not confident of recognizing the plants in the wild. Such as yarrow resembling queen ann's lace, which resembles hemlock, which is toxic. So growing these plants we can learn to confidently identify them. And I have been wanting to grow horehound again. Great for respitory issues. Now if I can just locate sweet woodruff. Just because I love the looks of it and the leaves smell heavenly when dried.

    Two years ago I dried passion fruit seeds and planted them in a large pot in my house. It now has multiple vines growing all over the dining room. Do you think it would survive outside after being indoors for so long?
    Three years ago I planted Holy Basil and it took over the raised bed where I had planted it. The roots grow down a foot and the roots have a diameter near as large as my pinky finger. It took me a week to dig up all the roots and they the plant still managed to show it's happy little face the following summer. So, I guess it is determined to be near me. It could be worse, it could be like the poison ivy in a friend's garden.

    We learn the ‘perfect’ garden as we go! 😊We just moved into a new home & have a giant garden. It’s sectioned off & I was just thinking I’ll take a fence down & open it up…which means rearranging a lot that’s already there & delaying planting what I was planning. But each year will be better!
    One thing I’m doing it fencing off a little 10x20’ section to made an apothecary garden. ❤
    The area already has motherwort & catmint…
