Taking on making the worlds largest chainmail in the blacksmith shop. Starting with 600 ft of 1" round bar and forging them into 250 circles. Every one is hot riveted together either under the pneumatic upsetter or with a sledge hammer. The finished piece weighs 1600 lbs and stretches out to over 11 feet tall! This has been an awesome project to be apart of and look forward to hearing what you think about this project! Thank you for watching.

My name is Timothy Dyck. I got hooked on blacksmithing when I was 13 years old. I quickly realized that in order to keep blacksmithing I needed money to buy costly supplies, so I started making small items and selling them at the local farmer markets. The farmer markets turned into craft shows and craft shows turned into custom projects. Right out of high school I had the opportunity to apprentice under a blacksmith, where I worked with him for four years. We did projects for some of the most prestigious houses around the rocky mountains and were apart of many large public sculptures. I learned many valuable lessons while working under his training, but the desire to set up my own shop and go out on my own was always something I dreamed about.
So in 2013 I started setting up my full time blacksmith shop out of BC, Canada making custom projects and products like railings, gates, lights, stairs, fences and all the many blacksmithing tools required to keep the blacksmithing shop running. I love what I do and this is my dream job. I enjoy showing you what's going on in the blacksmith shop through the lens of a camera and would love to have you along for the ride as I live out my dream of being a blacksmith in the 21st century.

Guys I tested the chainmail! I put the links to those videos in the description above. My personal fav is the testing with the car! Crazy! Haha
CANNONBALLS!
I tot u should meet Jorge ..
Have you over seen the stronghand clamps that go with your heavy casted fab table? I use to have a similar table. They’re pretty sick. You’re videos are super chill and fun.
I think a tank round could be a good test :D Has pretty mutch the same size as an regular arrowhead compared to the size of rings :D
I believe that yes you guys are crazy
This belongs in a natural history museum. It would be great for people to so mail in such an up close
I would seriously recommend contacting museums to see if they would want installations of these in different weaves.
@@DrizztFan23 MAYBE just the basic ones. I have a strong feeling that 4-1 is hard enough at this size and going to 6-1 is going to be hellish.
The person where g mail this big would have to be , how tall?
My immediate thought was that it would be a very cool addition to some museums armor collection as an installation that people could literally walk over as they pass into the wing with mail or what have you.
Shoot it with a roman ballista
The little Rivet armies running around the entire piece was absolutely awesome and showed so much forethought and dedication to the ending product, hats off guys, that was so friggin cool. Absolutely one of the best videos I've seen on youtube in a long while.
A few brave Rivets escaped the torches fury..Many fell in the onslaught as they attacked the hammers . XD
If someone finds that in a few hundred years it would really mess with their heads...
Yea beat it up an burrt it and get som metal detector novic aut and see if he findes it
@@simonhenriksen5378 Yep...
I was just thinking, if this was found in the future. What would an archaeologist try and make of this?
Becasue in 200 years there is absolutley zero chance, they could just do a quick google search on thier wrist watch or ear piece and pull up this video? ..
@@MikeBaxterABC if alphabet the company which runs both google and youtube doesn’t survive 200years they may well not be able too.
Reach out to a historical society.
Try things like various sized cannons, ballistas, trebuchet, etc.
Honestly though, you'll break the structure holding the chainmail up before you break the chainmail.
Trebuchet is genius, make it a challenge, against anyone in England who can build a trebuchet that can break it.
@@yetanotherjohn He isn't from England or the UK.
@@sander7165 Irrelevant, yer 'onner! I simply offer a trans-oceanic competition as worthy of the grand scale of this impregnable iron. Furthermore, all the really good trebuchet videos I have seen were in the UK. They seem to have more eccentric millionaires with lots of room and a flair for the ridiculous.
@@yetanotherjohnthat's the US, the UK doesn't really have that many eccentric rich people
Hang it up on a playground. I heard so often that children can break everything.
@@prozacgod it not only would break him it'll mash him like some mashed potatoes
And soldiers
Ha ha, this was super cool! Great work, and nice tooling!
Get those guys from How Ridiculous to drop something heavy and sharp onto it.
Alec Steel is making a giant sword to get dropped. Lol just get all the collabs
comments the same.. I should've read first
Thy should drop the big sword that alec-steel made
Today we will be dropping a cruise ship onto this chainmail from space!
Imagine the shipping cost Cananda to Australia
This should be #1 on trending, Game of thrones should have hired you to make this for a prop, Hollywood needs to buy it for some epic movie or something. This is the greatest build I’ve ever seen on RUclips by far. Maybe make it as a doorway or sign by the road for your blacksmith business? So many cool things you could do but this build needs to get out there to everyone, so cool!
Right?! This coulda been one of the gates of The Wall!
The weighted blanket I didn't know I needed lol
After thousand year or something like that, archeologist show this to proof about giants who lived our time...
Is it not for a client? This seriously belong in an art installation!
RUclips viewers is client.
I feel like this could have industrial applications. Think about the energy it could absorb
I would gladly buy it for it's esthetic sculptural quality.
If I was rich and had mansion with acres of yard and a nice sculpture garden.
This is myth-buster level! Go big! everything its attached to needs to be bigger then the chainmail tho so you are testing and breaking the chainmail not the little chain its hanging on.
Castles should've made these and hung infront of doors, during war, a couple feet away to take the blow out of battering rams
How does this channel not have a million subs yet? Production quality and craftsmanship is top notch. Guarantee this channel will be huge soon enough.
Better yet incorporate it in to the strongest men comps. The chainmail drag.
This was gonna be my suggestion.
One word...
AWESOME
Worlds most expensive soil grader euh... piece of slightly oversized armor...
Hey ask some local bank if they can use a security gate
leviathanmdk or it could be used as anti heat chain armor for tanks
This video was the best descriptive video on how mail was created using the rivet system. Ery well put together. The camera work and music, especially after the last rivet was on point. Great job on editing!
2:49 and that's why knights paid squires, and paid them well lol
That's a solid helper. Knows where to be and when to be there
Guiness largest chain mail ever!
Its funny seeing the rivet machine walk across the shop floor in the timelapses
Having done small scale stuff a long time ago (and in a galaxy far far away?), my hat's off to you! Holy Smokes! I vote a giant crossbow style ballista!
yay for your Dad helping out and I bet your Mom loves the new yard art!!! Wow that was some project, amazing.
Get Jorge from the slingshot channel to make a weapon to test against it. He will show us it's features!
This dude so clearly loves blacksmithing it's great
Wow, what an epic project! Great job guys. Man that would make a great blacksmith sign of sorts... Hhmmm
Loved the little Easter eggs in the stop motion time lapse!
This is the most inspirational documentary personal autobiography I've ever watched.
Do you have any dirt roads that need screeding? I think it would do a great job of leveling out a rough road.
My previous comment about your videography skills still stands. I love the stop-motion style that you did, and especially love the way the rivets ran around the floor! One wouldn't typically expect a smith to be so handy with a camera, yet here you are.
What do ya think? How are we going to test this thing! :)
make a bridge with it and drive stuff over it
Shoot a cannon at it!
runaway car/truck netting...
That was impressive! Surely the largest forged chainmail. Check out "Debris flow net rings".
Demolition Ranch!
That thing is massive!!! What a feat! Good job!!!!!
When you have level 999 exp. And you have every move fully calculated.
That rivet stop motion was super cool.
get michaelcthulhu to swing one of his swords at it
Just love watching your clips on blacksmithing and the way you explain different ways to do things just keep it up and don’t change the format. Tim (That’s Me) 🇦🇺
Why test it? It looks like a beautiful piece of art, history, teaching platform, etc. to me. With an appropriate display rack, this could be displayed in lots of places. Please don't wreck it.
dude you should shoot a giant medieval ballista at it!
Hey instead of doing something silly with it, why don’t you hook it to a spreader beam and drag it behind a tractor to level gravel roads and bust up dirt clods in a field like a harrow.
THAT ACTUALLY WOULD BE USEFUL.!
It would be cool to see it shot by a giant arrow fired from a cannon though.......
I love the way a regular chain looks next to this
Drive a car into it!
AWESOME !!!!!! ty for sharing your creativity !!! true ARTISTRY .......!!!!
Forge an arrow head relative to that!
I have seen a lot of impressive projects, but this is by far the most ambitious and impressive project I have ever seen, by a long shot!!!
It’s a cool project just trying to figure out why lol
Firing a ballista at it would be so cool! Then after that a cannonball
Yes........ but *why?*
Why not?
Wow! Incredible work dude!
Интересный токарный станок у вас 👍
What a great video.
If it’s not a giant mail shirt it’s no doubt a proper giant mail handkerchief 😊
This would make an amazing gate!
Seeing the heat waves in the air coming off that ring at 18:42 I can almost feel it. The stop animation was amazing, nice touch!
That just looks like it should become part of a playground. That would be incredibly fun to climb!
The time lapse was super cool!
Martin looking swol AF when pulling that chainmail
Nevermind... just saw the other video. AWESOME!!!
I have to say this is definitely a display of determination and dedication.
Probably one of the best things Ive seen on YT. The idea , planning and execution are fabulous. That is what it is all about, Think BIGG. Well done , men.
Stop making pocket knives and bobbles for your key ring.
Alex Steele , the gaunlet has been laid down. You must take up the challenge.
And congratulations to your dad and mum for producing you.
I also think this should be in a public place.
More power to your arm.
This is a great example of "doesnt lookheavy, but is extremely heavy,
Dude don't destroy that! Somebody would buy that, that's a piece of Art! I'm telling you you can make a killing on that! There's a buyer for everything and that being the largest chain mail would attract a buyer easily. Just something to think about and what a great job awesome!
Wow, never seen nothing like that before. A true craftsman you are. You and Martin work really well together.
It's absolutely amazing that you did a freaking stop motion film while doing all of this work. Love it.
Bravo!!! You and your bud are straight “Savage Beasts”!!! I mean that with my deepest respect!! Cheers from Chicago!
Epic! Should turn it into a bridge for trucks!
AMAZING!! Beautiful, awesome craftsmanship....
Needs to be layed out on the ground and then welded to a frame using staples through the edge rings, just hanging it kind of looses the symmetry it has and narrows it up. By far one of the coolest sculptures you could have made, hats of to you Bud nice job.
Mate the end time lapse ..... we’ll done so good 👍👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍👍🏼👍
That is just completely amazing. This has been the first RUclips video I’ve watched from beginning to end in a long time! So entertaining and impressive. Great job both of you guys.
This guy is so interesting and active i really love his job
I'm so glad to see you got the press working.
That’s hilarious and awesome at the same time, I’m glad I found this channel
That is one excellent set of chain harrows! ; ) May need a big tractor to pull them though. Great work and well done guys.
Practice use ideas:
1. It could be used as a pathway for getting big machinery unstuck from mud.
2. It could be used for a big crane to prevent sink age on a foot.
3. It could be used as a drop gate for a castle murder hole.
4. Permanent wall to create a breezeway, but also create security
this spawned another idea, do the same size rings but smaller bar to make it much lighter and then weld some garage door wheels and use it as a way to secure the building but keep it "open"
Good job, Timothy! Your dad recommended I check this video out and it definitely didn’t disappoint. Fascinating stuff!
Got to be firing a cannon ball right at it!!!!! So cool well done!
You guys should build a trebuchet and blast the chainmail with different weights of projectile to see how much force it takes to effectively disrupt it. Great build by the way, super cool.
This is the coolest thing I've ever seen
Great channel! Can't wait to see more projets!
Cloud’s Buster Sword: “OUR BATTLE WILL BE LEGENDARY!”
I see one badass shop door, especially for a blacksmith shop.
Now at the end I must say four in one on this size scale is gorgeous
Straight off the set of GOT!
Beautiful video! and GREAT, GREAT WORK! Congratulations also for the sympathy you have shown. Greetings from Italy
Awesome video!! I love how you even played with the small things like the rivets marching around in the stop animation time lapse shot! Good stuff!
Outstanding work! What a monumental challenge it gives me a new appreciation for chainmail👍
12:48 I was literally thinking "His butt is going to smoke any second now." lmfao
That giant chainmail would make a great meadow drage
Just amazing! What an effort, it is incredible! How could you afford to make this?
The animated video looked great!! Even the rivets were moving around, incredible!
Thanks for sharing.
that is one awesome security fence / door
Awesome build Tim!! Gotta test it with a giant crossbow bolt!!!
You are a genius man . Thank you Tim for such creativity 👍
Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls God Bless Ya Prayers
Man I'm so glad the machine you used for rivers is proving useful. I had to wonder about that lol
This is awesome! Be careful, this is the type of stuff that starts a T.V. Series 🎬 Epic!
What a fun and entertaining channel this has turned out to be! At such a young age to be so knowledgeable and experienced at what you do. Got a good chuckle at when you donned on the chain mail at the beginning.. Thanks for that ;) Good luck with your future endeavours! From Halifax, Cheers! Stay Safe!
Finally he uses the upsetter right and not like a powerhammer😂😂
Dam dude, bloody well done!
