I have read a report that farmers said:
They hired the Americans citizens paying top dollar (17-20$ at the time it was way over the minimum wage) with benefits.
Out of 100 hired, 40 only last 1 day of work, 40 only last 2-3 days and then by the end of the week…they were all gone.
    Good luck farmers.
Good luck for us to find cheap farmers products at the store

Ron DeSantis tried this stunt in Florida last year and it backfired in his face when Farmers and businesses told him if he criminalized Immigrants for working in Florida all construction, road building, farming, tourism and service industries would come to a screeching halt and economic disaster would ensue. After careful consideration, the stunt quickly went away. Even so, years ago, Alabama tried the same thing with Immigrant Labor, and it ended the same way, in total disaster. When something is done for purely hateful reasons, this is the result.

Enlightening. Here is just something to think about in numbers and without post-truth enraging populism:
Estimated cost for deporting 1 million people in one year - $88 billion dollars
Estimated total cost for a decade of deportation - $967.9 billion dollars
To deport 1 million people per year would require to build and maintain 24 times more detention capacity. In comparison the entire US prison population is 1,9 million people (including every jail in every state, every city).
Here is a citation from the article:
"In 2017 research conducted by the Cornell Farmworker Program, 30 New York dairy farmers told us they turned to undocumented workers because they were unable to find and keep reliable U.S. citizens to do the jobs. That's in part because farm work can be physically demanding, dirty and socially denigrated work. More importantly, it is one the most dangerous occupations in the U.S.
The U.S. fruit, vegetable and meat industries are similarly at risk, and without the help of unauthorized workers, production would drop and consumers would likely see higher prices."
And here are some stats how many percent of undocumented immigrants by industry:
    Hired farmers - 53%
    Construction - 15%
    Production - 9%
    Services - 9%
    Transportation - 6%
    Overall workforce - 5%
So, whatever industry it is, expect higher prices from deportation, and perhaps bankruptcies of numerous businesses.
    Another study in numbers (citation):
"Undocumented immigrants paid $96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes in 2022. Most of that amount, $59.4 billion, was paid to the federal government while the remaining $37.3 billion was paid to state and local governments.", and
"More than a third of the tax dollars paid by undocumented immigrants go toward payroll taxes dedicated to funding programs that these workers are barred from accessing. Undocumented immigrants paid $25.7 billion in Social Security taxes, $6.4 billion in Medicare taxes, and $1.8 billion in unemployment insurance taxes in 2022."

Who is going to harvest all of those vegetables and citrus fruits? who is going to man those chicken, pork, and beef processing factories? These are all jobs filled largely by immigrant workers, working for cheap/slave wages. They are there because Americans will not take or stay in these painful and demanding jobs. If replacement American workers can be found to do this work, they will demand that they be paid wages 2 to 3 times the slave wages being payed immigrants. So if send-them-home policies are actually successful, be prepared to pay much more for your food and construction services. Think that your life is getting harder? Just wait. People worked at whatever they could find that would pay them pennies on the dollar during the Great Depression, just in order to feed themselves or their kids - medical care, HA! Living in the house you still had a mortgage on before you lost your job and your unemployment benefits expired, HA! And consider - even if you own your house with no mortgage owed, there will be property/real estate taxes to pay. Where's that money going to come from? Getting proper medical care and being able to buy your prescription drugs, HA!

Beautiful people...and so very oppressed & desperate to escape the violence and unrest within Haiti. Often an entire family will pool resources to send one family member here, to work hard and share earnings with their family back in Haiti to help them survive. Only those with money to pay, can even get an education in Haiti. Adequate housing and food are lacking, and there are still many areas that never recovered from devastating earthquakes and hurricanes. Gangs and violent political groups run the streets and neighborhoods, commandeering the property of others and victimizing innocent people. To see the horrible way that they have been blamed and misrepresented by politicians, especially those in Springfield OH, is just sickening! We who know these people, need to advocate for them and stand up against those who treat them inhumanely. Undocumented immigrants paid $96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes in 2022. Most of that amount, $59.4 billion, was paid to the federal government while the remaining $37.3 billion was paid to state and local governments.
Undocumented immigrants paid federal, state, and local taxes of $8,889 per person in 2022. In other words, for every 1 million undocumented immigrants who reside in the country, public services receive $8.9 billion in additional tax revenue.
More than a third of the tax dollars paid by undocumented immigrants go toward payroll taxes dedicated to funding programs that these workers are barred from accessing. Undocumented immigrants paid $25.7 billion in Social Security taxes, $6.4 billion in Medicare taxes, and $1.8 billion in unemployment insurance taxes in 2022.
At the state and local levels, slightly less than half (46 percent, or $15.1 billion) of the tax payments made by undocumented immigrants are through sales and excise taxes levied on their purchases. Most other payments are made through property taxes, such as those levied on homeowners and renters (31 percent, or $10.4 billion), or through personal and business income taxes (21 percent, or $7.0 billion).
Six states raised more than $1 billion each in tax revenue from undocumented immigrants living within their borders. Those states are California ($8.5 billion), Texas ($4.9 billion), New York ($3.1 billion), Florida ($1.8 billion), Illinois ($1.5 billion), and New Jersey ($1.3 billion).
In a large majority of states (40), undocumented immigrants pay higher state and local tax rates than the top 1 percent of households living within their borders.
If they were allowed to work legally and actually paid properly they would pay even more taxes .

      Try educating yourself .

2024 - The "No Funding for Sanctuary Cities Act" is being introduced by Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas, and would amend federal law so that any jurisdiction that blocks federal immigration enforcement would be ineligible for a range of federal law enforcement grants and any other grant administered by the Department of Homeland Security or Department of Justice.
It would also require the DHS secretary to report to Congress how many states and localities are not complying with federal immigration enforcement. It says that any funds that are withdrawn from sanctuary jurisdictions can be diverted to those that are in compliance.

Though it is not an exact parallel, what happened with Brexit in England is instructive. The big selling point for leaving the European Union was that there would be an influx of money into the National Health Service. This has not come to pass. What has occurred is the negative impact on agriculture. The flow of farm workers from other European countries under EU membership was cut off with the passage of Brexit. This has resulted in a shortage of workers, as English workers, much like American workers, don't find agricultural work appealing.

I hope people don’t take this the wrong way. I feel bad for the families that are going to be affected through this but wouldn’t this encourage more farmers to give better wages and conditions to the American citizens? A lot of people keep talking about how Americans don’t want to work those jobs but don’t people forget that it’s for a reason? Not necessarily that they’re super lazy?
