      I thought it was a collaboration of Jackie Trent and Tony Hatch who wrote that.
      Kate Bush was the first British female artiste that solely self penned and also wrote and played her own music to her song, the song was ''Wuthering Heights'' which was a number one hit 1978.

      Thank you so much for explaining the song with the video. They just didn't seem to originally be connected & I was wondering what the connection was (if any). Have recently watched S2E1 of It's Dark Outside and the song is played on a record player by an actor but it wasn't used as the theme song. In retrospect the song does go with the video chosen by Witheredgoogie but I assume it wasn't used in the film Four In The Morning (which I must now watch!).

    This song was number one on my 9th birthday. Wednesday 26th May, 1965. It would be my last birthday living in North London, as my family moved to Surrey, later in August the same year. It was definitely a sign that the times were changing for me and sadly the end of a very happy and significant part of my life.
    I heard this on the radio program Pick of the Pops, with Paul Gambaccini a few days ago, the day after my 61st birthday. The memories of a very special time in my life came flooding back. Which I took so much for granted then, but cherish those precious memories now. Especially when my birthday comes around and this song is played on the radio. The scene at Chiswick where they _borrowed_ the speedboat, is pretty well the same today, but with no ugly iron barges littering the riverbank. Tower bridge is the same as is the Greenwich observatory and the bridges, but everything else is no longer there. *All* of the industrial docks have been demolished, being replaced by modern residential and commercial buildings. Even the Woolwich ferry piers have been rebuilt. The views are _very_ different today. The Woolwich ferryboat they were on was the _John Burns,_ yes the same name as me, the ferry seen in the river was the _Ernest Bevin,_ written on the side. Both were only a few years old at the time of filming. Both were taken out of commission in 2018.

    RIP Jackie Trent, her partnership in song and life with Tony Hatch produced this wonderful hit from my younger days, and great music like 'Joanna' for Scott Walker. RIP also to Fulham born Ann Lynn whose scenes from the 1965 film 'Four in the Morning' are used in this video. Much of Fulham banks alongside the river Thames, so her on the riverboat is so apt. Also, despite some other comments here, by 1965 Ann Lynn had already bravely participated in films that highlighted the changing demographics of London's population and its passions, without prejudice.

      Ann Lynn was such a beautiful soul. Its only recently I discovered more and studied her career. Appallingly treated by Anthony Newley who discarded her for Joan Collins. But bounced back with modesty and dignity. Ann has grown on me more and more as time goes by. God Bess you Ann.

      @@thunderc45 Think that all the songs Jackie wrote should be never released again. Especially while Hatch is still alive I was asked to read an article on him the other day. Turned out hatch was cheating on her with one of her friends. SOME FRIEND. I personally never liked hatch he was a nobody without Jackie. Think the attention went to his head when appearing NEW FACES And got the name mr nasty. I never spoke to him and didn’t want to even when they were out together. The reason I say leave Jackies songwriting alone is that Mr nasty Hatch was trying to claim all the royalitys from all the popular songs were written by him and him alone claiming Jackie had no input in any of the songs. He was banned from Jackies funeral for all different reasons. I don’t know if Jackies ashes are back home now in Chesterton Stoke on Trent. Her name will never be tarnished by the likes of hatch. The people of Stoke with make sure of that. Once a stokie always a stokie. ♥️♥️ I think the song writing incident is sorted now in Jackies favour. Has for hatch i don’t know what happened to him or even care should be in the gutter people like him forget that Jackie knew and wrote top chart hits for some big stars of the day.

      Me too. Never forgotten. Can't remember who played the victim, but Anthony Ainley took Keith Barron's spot as the sergeant. I travelled from Leicester to Bristol to buy the EP - it was all sold out everywhere else! Incidentally, I still have it.

    • @SpainHighlander
      @SpainHighlander 8 лет назад +2

      You got me going on this now. I 'googled' it, and the full cast is on IMDB.....having taken a squint, I think the victim was a young and wimpish David Hemmings, who gets intimidated by Ollie and falls from a window at a party. Ring a bell ?

    • @bermudianabritain2139
      @bermudianabritain2139 8 лет назад +1

      Stewart Liebenstrudl That could have been - he's in the cast list. But the main victim was a young woman engaged to the the Anthony Ainley character (I remember AA so well because a few weeks later I went looking for a friend backstage in London and ran into him). The girl loves the song, and the murderer makes it look like suicide by leaving the record player playing the song on a loop. The things we remember!!

To say that Jackie was known because of the theme tune to neighbours is total bollock. She was well known round Stoke on Trent before that garbage was even heard of. She was up there with all the top female singers. She just didn’t want to be. Why the hell she got involved with someone who could eat an apple through a tennis racquet is beyond belief.
