    Chain is way too short now , you will damage the drive output shaft / bearings . Cooling fan motor bearings are failing , they are non serviceable . New fan required , also looks like the rear shock absorber is shot and lost all its damping . Water in the gearbox is usually down to a worn water pump shaft/ seal . These are all very common problem on old Gas Gas trials bikes . Have fun though .

    Dude, your videos are phenomenal. You can be a full-time RUclipsr. Look at how big your channel has grown and imagine if you committed. Can't say it enough man, thank you so much for all of your incredible content. Especially on your KZ750 twin series. I'm building one myself. From your paint DIY, to your exhaust building, you are a phenomenal creator. You are great on camera, and seem to be a natural communicator. Jump start it!

    So what's going on Taylor? Correct me if I'm wrong I thought you quit product management to do this full time. However the past year your uploads have been super inconsistent. Is it because RUclips isn't paying you enough in ads?

    that broken piece was part of the sealing surface for the cover, which is prolly why there was no oil in the clutch, and it had water in it. after they broke the kicker, they rode it through some water hazard. a new case is the only real way to repair it, and a new bike prolly isn't much more than the cost of the repair + parts.

    It is always hard to go with on something after someone. While DIY is definitely something I am am advocate for, there are places to start with that. Looks like someone started on a motorcycle. It's all learning, but I think patience was what was lacking in the last mechanic. Keep up the good work!

    The guy you mentioned is Jim Snell, he sadly passed away about a month ago. Gotta love working on stuff after someone without a clue went after it. I was expecting the broken piece to be from them trying jam the clutch basket while loosening the bolt. Ever since the Gas Gas went to the Pro models in 02, the bikes have just been kinda iffy IMO. I'm pretty sure those cases are actually magnesium.

    Considering the level of carelessness and incompetence the last guy that worked on that bike had I wouldn't trust it until I went over every nut and bolt. Last thing you want is to take it over a jump and the front wheel comes flying off or something.

    Hey enjoy your approach to problems. Pull it apart and work it out. What did you find for the cause of coolant in the clutch case now that the pump turns, a failed water pump seal ?

    • @johncorlett3699
      @johncorlett3699 7 месяцев назад

      or water ingress through the broken aluminium hole, rain, fording? if there is colour in the coolant but the drained water is clear, probably not the water pump

    Gas Gas engine cases and covers have a high amount of magnesium in them to save weight. Welding them requires the correct filler rod, tungsten and preferably a sealed inert gas environment for castings. Ask me how I know...

  • @samtennery1182
    @samtennery1182 7 месяцев назад +1

    is the seal on the water pump bad only reason for liquid to be in that area

  • @robertslinger3811
    @robertslinger3811 3 месяца назад

    The broken alu piece is a seat for the clutch seal, so without it oil wd leak away. The water in there looked like coolant so the water pump seal needs replacing. Did you measure the clutch pack? Spec is I think 17.5 +/-0.5mm. With water in there the plates may swell. Bcs on a GG there are only three plates, tolerance is very tight and any deviations lead to problems. Upside is replacement is cheap & when it is dialed in, bcs of the diaphragm, it is really sweet. The screw in the middle of the clutch drum fixing the cage to the crank is a design weakness. It is very thin & hollow to allow oil flow, so the torque is *very* specific. Too tight & it snaps, too loose & it works free, falls into the clutch gears, either way wreaking havoc. In competition & GG servicing, this screw is removed (believe it or not) & the clutch pack held in position internally only by the pressure on the top hat piston on the end of the slave cylinder.
    Other than that it should run way smoother than this, particularly after a carb clean. Is the air filter clean?

    @daveco1270 7 месяцев назад +1

    Good detective work considering you didn't have a shop manual. Somebody was a little sloppy putting it back together. What's the purpose of those fingers on the clutch? I've never seen that before. Are they thin metal flaps?

    • @ajacstern7145
      @ajacstern7145 6 месяцев назад

      Those are the springs of the clutch, similar to the way a car clutch works

    • @ArbutusWVI
      @ArbutusWVI 6 месяцев назад

      They are the really levers that the clutch slave cylinder transfers it's motion through to the pressure plate, when pulling in the clutch handlebar lever. The pressure to the clutch plate pack is provided by a Belleville spring, not the 10 clutch release arms, as the G/G parts book describes them. Classic Octane should get ahold of the parts book, the kickstart shaft looks to be missing a special washer beside the circlip he replaced.

      Trials bikes don't have long travel suspension, not like an enduro bike, since they don't hit obstacles at speed.
