I think Vasiliev is grossly underrated. He really does not get the attention he deserves, Osipova really lives up to her Prima title and she is give credit where credit is due! But I think in the world of ballet Vasiliev has been terribly overlooked, a true artist of his time and sensational to watch
I agree, I typed my disgust with this occupation, however I wish him well, because he is a spectacular dancer in every sense of the word, people talk about his build, I think he Is built strong to lift these women, not every woman is a light weight, looks can be deceiving, Osipova to me is certainly not better than him she might be because of him. I wish this young man the best, because as we have read this occupation is cut throat to the core.
I also totally agree! Vasiliev is as much sensational as Mikhail Baryshnikov. Sadly, just times changed and people prefer only tall handsome technicians, I think. However, Vasiliev is a true master of ballet, I don't know how to say, but he is really great.
I SO agree. I LOVE watching them together. They should have married and had ten kids! Absolutely delightful. I notice in this…he lifts her kinda too high …the lift where he’s on the floor. He loves to lift Natalia. Lost their balance but it worked. 😂❤️❤️❤️ I love them as Kitri and Basil. And I think he is every bit as good as Mika.
They are dancing the joy of the discovery of love, in all it's wild exuberance. This choreography and the interpretation is sublime!! This will always fill me with delight! Kudos!!.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Vasiliev. To me, he is the character of Don Quixote. He’s perfect for it. And Osipova is Kitri. They’re were others before them of course but , for me and for this generation of Danvers - tag, they’re it. I’m so sorry , and I’ll be shit down in flames here, but I don’t like Polunin. Oh, he can dance alright, but it’s technique and no feeling. He dances like ‘ look at me, I’m just brilliant’. Like it’s his second or third choice career. Just my opinion. Why was Vasiliev disliked , I thought he was very popular. He certainly outshone other of his generation by leaps and bounds. Mind you, the fabulous way he used his body you could tell he probably couldn’t have a very long career. No one can do that to their body and not sustain huge injury . Still, they were a magical stage presence together. 👵👵👵🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
slight problem with the lift when on his knees. Her back is so loose she had to put her arms down to steady herself. They are absolutely beautiful but not sure this is my favorite partnership in this MacMillan ballet . I was privileged to see Seymour and Gable for whom it was choreographed.and it was the most magical experience ever.
It was one of their last performances together, so maybe not easy... and maybe not the best. Even so: "... no finesse. As always he relies on his brute strength." Really???!!!! I saw a passionate Romeo, euphoric by Juliet's presence, hardly fitting his own skin, hardly touching the floor in his variation, youthful and full of joy. A Romeo with beautiful arms and graceful epaulements, lifting Juliet with great softness (the last lifts, ooohh!!!), tender and attentive. This is how I imagined Romeo since I first read the play. If this was not the Romeo MacMillan envisioned, it is because he had no such dancer available at the time (no, I don't need "princes" to be two meters tall, Vasiliev's looks are very nice, in a different way). If Osipova did overact, well, in all the rest she was Juliet for sure, and just beautiful! (If there is anything that I don't like in this specific performance, it's Vasiliev's oversized shirt, that makes him look way more bulky than he truly is. Easy to fix.)
I've seen this pas de deux danced by RB's Rojo and Acosta years ago. Both looks sublime and passionate without exerting too much technique which is I guess a key in dancing Macmillan roles (emotions over technique). Osipova and Vasiliev are wonderful dancers and are great technician though maybe toning it down would do them good.
MacMillan’s choreography is so perfect that it makes any couple dancing it look beautiful, even one as mis-matched as these two. He’s definitely of the 1950s Bolshoi men mode, and she’s more closely matched in temperament in this role by Alessandra Ferri, than by say, Natalia Makarova. All three ballerinas were/are extremely charismatic and passionate dancers, with huge stage personalities. And all three danced their Juliets very differently but very powerfully.
needs work if they would pull back , they are so accustom to the pyrotechnics of gala performances . MacMillan is more reserved and refined , less is more !!
I haven't been the biggest fan of Osipova's dancing since she left the Bolshoi, but she is lovely here. Osipova is quite dramatic and, though she is not as refined an actress as other great Macmillan dancers, I think her temperament works in Macmillan ballets. I have a feeling she'll struggle more with Ashton. I've always loved Vasiliev- he's good here but belongs on the Bolshoi stage!
If she was angry, it must have been with herself... It was her fault, she threw her legs too high, and center of gravity was no more above him, but behind him. It is a miracle, since he couldn't move backwards to compensate, that he was able NOT to drop her. A reliable partner!
II think Osipova Is a royal pain in the ass, I am glad they are not together, I get a vibe she is overbearing, she is with Sergei Polunin now and I hope he is strong enough now to tell that bitch if she gets too overbearing, it"s over, he has had enough heartache in his young life and Natalia is the kind of woman that will try to take advantage this occupation is short and Sergei is a jewel, where as she is trying to find a partner to escalate her career, I pray Sergei is strong enough not to drink the kool aid this bitch is serving and strong enough to walk away from the sex, it's a difference between love and sex, if she left Ivan abruptly she will do the same tto Sergei and if she does I pray Sergei is strong enough to move on and finish his career with the glory he deserves because life is too short.
I think Natalia is a mercurial bitch, she probably wanted to hurt his career, she looks like the type, I saw her dancing with Sergei and she looked angry at the end of the dance, I thought what a classless strumpet. My hope is that Sergei not fall for this selfish bitch, sex he can get anywhere and there are other dancers that far out dance her and look better, I hate he is with her but I am hoping he will be strong enough to kick her to the curb if she starts acting like a diva. He is the real deal and can do better without her. Lets wish Sergei and Ivan the best.
@@marthajane6617 I had such a huge laugh with your comments!! Love the way your write and your passion to get your point across as to how much you dislike this woman!! LOL Most gifted artists are a royal pain in the ass.. I´m sure she is no exception. I do like her dancing though.
Pity she almost went over the top..... spoiled her port de bras. Vasiliev is a good dancer, but has an "old school" figure.... very heavy, while she is just a light bird....
All I saw was two talented dancers dancing the steps. No connection, no emotion, no passion and not all that musical. Natalia emoted too much which she often does in her performances. It never once felt real. Ivan has a powerful technique but no finesse. As always he relies on his brute strength. This was proof that even the best dancers in the world can have an off night.
No one ever did this choreography better than these two. So much passion. They make you believe it's effortless.
I think Vasiliev is grossly underrated. He really does not get the attention he deserves, Osipova really lives up to her Prima title and she is give credit where credit is due! +Ivy Hoss Totally agreed!

Bravo

I loved the way he ran on stage just beautiful.
Ivan loves to lift Natalia. 😁😁 Especially in Don Quixote! A little issue on this from his knees. THEY ARE SO WONDERFUL TOGETHER!

+Aves Raggiana mis-matched as these two??? really! ha! disagree!!

UUUUUUUGGGGHHHH WHERE IS THE KISS????
+Charlotte Twitchell the kiss scene is cut!
I noticed that to, why? that is the best part.(:)
Watch Mayara Magri and Matthew Ball's lock-down outdoor performance .
Such a lovely couple... so sad that they broke up :((

Son maravillosos!!!
Why the cut? You left out the best part!
When we can find the full version of this ballet with Osipova and Vasiliev?
Its alot to live up in terms of the score. Its intensely dramatic ..big.. Fonteyn and Nureyev could fill the music.
На.

Her dress! ;o
Perfect. It's a MAN dancing. Not a butterfly.....
needs work

She looked angry when they took a bow. He nearly dropped her over his back. They seemed very unsteady.

You two sound so miserable and bitter for no reason

Yes. The strangest balcony scene I've ever watched. Do they know each other?
