True that I use to rock this everyday all day wit my big box walking around the hood wit my crew on the flip side of this was the original version of I need a beat💯💪🏾
I was 9 in 1984...10 in 1985...so...LL Cool J was like the first Bad Azz Battle MC...and he was a boxer too, I believe. We listened to everything underground back then on 88.5 FM WHPK CHICAGO
I saw J perform this remix at the Fresh Festival at the Civic Center in Baltimore in the mid 80's. LL will always be one of the greats to hold the mic.
back when I had to hear it over and over again!! can't believe what we have allowed to happen to hip hop... it has been taken hostage and we need to get it back''
I remember hearing this remix version for the first time in the summer of 1986 on Chicago's WHPK radio. This is definitely a street corner blasting, JVC cassette tape boomboxing, B-boying, Hip-Hop classic. I like this version better compared to the album version. Today's so called hip-hop artists really need to take notes of how artists during that era used breakbeats, scratching, freestyling, and sampling to make it into an art form. Queen Latifah said there is no art in today's hip-hop!
I remember catching this on the radio and recording it on cassette. Played that joint til the tape broke! Then got some scotch tape, pieced it together and rocked it some more! I was a youngin' in the Chi back then...man, I miss true Hip hop!
DUSM Yeah, all you need is scotch tape, a screwdriver to open the cassette, and a pencil to wind it back up after you assemble it together, done! Those were the good ol' days! I used to listen to J.P. Chill on WHPK playing straight up underground hip hop!
C-L-A-S-S-I-C! This was from his very first album, Radio. This track cannot be matched by anybody! Thanx 4 posting. I haven't heard this in about 25 plus years!
I remember when I first heard this on a mix record in I think it was '85, should have bought the single, did get the Rock the Bells original, this was LL at his best!!
@@mymixin8852 Indeed...a shame that whole generations have no idea just how hard Uncle L was...the original mix of Rock the Bells is among the greatest tracks ever...and, The Breakthrough gets plays every week for me to this day
Purity-the essence of a culture that defined a time in urban America that changed our horizons. Listening to the pure energy of an art form, captured in LL's vocals. Rakim is like jazz, KRS-1 and KMDare like refined art, DMC, PE, and PE are reminiscent of the crafty ensembles. None were like LL in his prime, he was rock n roll, soul, blues, and classic rolled into one. This is poetry, and it's pure.
I have been waiting to hear this one. remix of one of the best ll cool j songs (and from the only album that really mattered...) thanks for posting. rare def jam
Damn!! I've been waiting for years to hear this again. I scratched up my 12" of this learning how to mix in 1987! Bout time this was posted! After hearing this version with Cut Creator scratching that flute sample and "rock" the album version sounded weak to me!
When walking with you boys and riding bikes were cool, fat gold chains, fat shoelaces, puma shoes and cassette tapes and big radio's shit I miss the 80's school dance's and the girls with their pickles with the peppermint and the door knocker earrings......
You was Blessed if you were tuned in to 96 W.H.Y.T when The Electrifying Mojo dropped this remix for the first time , I was blown away!! LL was the Goat wayy back then . WordSmith for sure ...thats why when a hear some of these new dudes mumblin and cant hear what they sayin I be like NO.....just NO
@JayTronik : Indeed, he was the greatest!!! Those who were there and can remember the time could never deny that. He was the Michael Jackson of rap in terms of his untouchable status, but for some reason, over time, he has declined dramatically. I don't understand how such a thing could happen. What happened to the vocabulary??? What happened to the soulful passion and confidence that touched and inspired us all? It seems that he has lost his soul and attempts to fake it with an ego facade.
@aush1969 I can dig it, I saw his first tour. When I first met Cut Creator I told him how dope this song was and he just smiled cause he knew it was true.
This joint is the bomb!!! Only true Cool J. fans know about this one!!
Go L.L.

This was my favorite remix form the Radio LP. I remember I didn't think anyone was better than LL until I heard Rakim in 86 lol
Rakim wasn't all that no disrespect at all but LL WOULD have crush him Rakim could only rap on certain track's
for those who like to groove, the flute loop was sampled from Eastside Connection - Frisco Disco. (Ultimate Breaks & Beats Vol. 13 - 1987)
This is a classic Cool J rhyme. This remix is one of the illest ever !!!
I have been waiting to hear this one. remix of one of the best ll cool j songs (and from the only album that really mattered...)

Isso é que é hip hop cru e verdadeiro como conheco!!!🎶🎵🎼😑
@soln4suhreborn Actually that isn't Cut Creator doing the scratching on this. Jazzy Jay who remixed this version is one behind the turntables.
I will look into it, I believe Jazzy Jay did the remix for "I Need a beat" and "You'll Rock" but the scratching for both was Cut Creator..
HARD 🔥
Classic for sure
