Man everybody spit but notable standouts were Def Jeff, Young MC, Hammer, Above the Law, Shock G and Humpty ( same person), JJFad , King Tee, Ice T, Eazy Dre and Ren.. Honorable Mention : Body and Soul snd Tone Loc. Dope song
JJ Fadd killed this track mang. They were some dope sistas for real man. And Eazy ripped it the only way he can at the end aka "The Violent Hero." RIP EAZY.
Dont give up or in my people it beyond color now, an ole skool whiteman just passed as I played this, in the hood, being severely gentrified.. rappin these verses...look a lil deeper, so blessed with this melodic truth that transcends all barriers that's real...love peace and unity!!!🙏😘😙✨🌟🌟🌟
This and the East Coast version aka Stop the Violence Movement's "Self Destruction" -- are two of the most dopest black empowerment rap records. But when these joints originally came out, I figured that most people probably were thinking like me, that Self Destruction would be the better record of the two.. considering the East Coast rappers -- New York brothers and sistas -- are normally the dopest MC's, especially in comparison to their West Coast counterparts.. But I gotta say that the West Coast Mc's came correct. And to me, this is the better record of the two, plus it don't hurt to have Dre doing the beat. And J Double aka JJ Fad, were raw all by themselves. And I gotta admit, Young MC, and especially Hammer, came correct on this track (which was shocking considering they weren't the most lyrical of cats). That's why I think this record is a little better than "Self Destruction". Due in part to alot of the quote on quote "whack Mc's" from the West came correct on this track. Then add Eazy E aka "the violent hero", put a nice stamp at the end of it. "Local Gangmembers still don't get it do you!?" Although it was a harsh reality of how gang violence effect all of us in the hood.. The way the guy says it over the police radio is real funny to me.
Mw2 NinJa I was referring to the "perception" at the time bro. Especially for MCs such as Hammer and Young MC (even though he's originally from NY). Overtime we'd learn that the West coast cats could spit just as good as their East coast contemporaries.
They keep cutting this out of Ice T's part: Keep 'em drunk and high/so they don't know what's up/ Make 'em think jail is where you go to get tough. Keep 'em unemployed/and then they'll probably steal/ Give 'em more dope and then they'll probably deal. All my brothers need to know one thang/no matter what you think/we're all in the same gang That adds to his already hard-hitting verse.
It's because Iceberg fucking dropped THEIR codes in PURE black and white, and so they gotta work to scrub that. Just like "Shut up. Be Happy", it's just too raw.
Whaat!!!! Hammer 🔨 is arguably 1 of the best storytellers I ever heard (1of) Also he real street 4real. He been on G' shit he just became famous for his hype lyrics and dance moves. But yeah, im not surprised at all by Hammer 🔨 He Real/Real
This is when hip hop was good there was originality back then know everybody raps the same these new rappers would get schooled if they where out back then
Do 9 to 5 not 5 to 10 just go to work and not the state Penn cause you live better when you out there free and that's coming straight to you from the young m.c. ...bars

In 2023 we can see the results of society ignoring the warnings and the music industry shoving spiritual poison down the throats of youth for decades worldwide 🙏🏼
Agreed! Young MC went to USC (University of Southern California, and unless you play football, they ain't just letting anybody, especially blacks and latinos, in their private university.) But don't forget that NWA's MC Ren went to Brown University (Ivy League Providence, Rhode Island, POTUS JFK graduated from there, FYI,) so talent clearly manifests itself, and, most of the time, so does social responsibility.
I was born in 1974 through the mid 80's and all of the 90's. The gangs in Birmingham was real bad. We all in the same gang and self destruction is two positive songs
RIP Shock G! You killed it all the time, especially here
This was the "We are the World" for rap music. Classic.

"I'm here to stress the fact that you're dumb." BEST LINE
JJ Fadd killed this track mang. They were some dope sistas for real man. And Eazy ripped it the only way he can at the end aka "The Violent Hero." RIP EAZY.
So relevant in these times🙌💯💯💯💯
Love this song, Ice T's verse is totally intense
R.I.P. and much Love to all who have lost their lives or felt the pain of gang violence and oppression of living in the ghettos
They all went off,but Above the Law and Tone Loc did it.
GREAT POSSE SONG BUMPING PRODUCTION

Eazy E Dr. dre & MC Ren best verse
Michel'le singing that chorus.
King T has the meanest flow on this song!
They keep cutting this out of Ice T's part:
Keep 'em drunk and high/so they don't know what's up/
Make 'em think jail is where you go to get tough.
Keep 'em unemployed/and then they'll probably steal/
Give 'em more dope and then they'll probably deal.
All my brothers need to know one thang/no matter what you think/we're all in the same gang
That adds to his already hard-hitting verse.
It's on the gangster remix.
RichTV look for full version..its a few missing
It's because Iceberg fucking dropped THEIR codes in PURE black and white, and so they gotta work to scrub that. Just like "Shut up. Be Happy", it's just too raw.
Where my 70's babies at..Whom came up during this era...We had a good time..

Def Jeff's verse was dope.

Thought I was the only who believed he "kilt" it! Also love "Above the Law" in this!

Young MC & surprisingly Hammer with the "storytelling" in his verse.

We need a 2019 version of this song, RIP Nipsey
Lots of legendary verses but Def Jef shines brightest on this particular track
Ice-T what of lyrics still makes me think
This is West Coast's "The Symphony"
this is actually closer to being the east coast's self-desruction, check out that track!
That reporter in the beginning of the song: _Hit me hard. That was and still is a reality._
I always thought it was cool that each rapper had a beat that was similar to their music and rap style. #RapGoldenYears

Good track. I remember older dudes rocking systems in mini trucks cruising McHenry in Modesto bumpin this. I was only 8. Good times
