    This one actually looked salvageable. People in the States are buying up old mobile homes and 'caravans' (we call them campers) and re-doing them. I'm amazed at how much room this caravan had.

    Hi both, we are a mixed age couple who like yourselfs embarked on a life changing mission to improve our lifestyle and be closer to our grandchildren. Its great to see a young couple achieving so much and we appreciate the dedication and hard work you are putting into your dream whilst inspiring others. We are older and as a couple of dinosaurs have sadly only recorded our renovation through photographs. 5 years ago we bought a coal board house in South Wales and stripped it back to four walls and a roof and have now completed 95% of the renovation. We have been fortunate enough to have enjoyed off grid and camping holidays and have passed our love of the outdoors to our grandchildren, hence we have included an outdoor play area using all natural materials for our 2year old grandson, whilst our 8 & 11 year old grandson have an area where they learn bushcraft from grandad and enjoy a firepit, outdoor cooking, logging etc, both able to use and axe safely now. The iveaway camera would be an ideal addition to their outdoor area as we are close to the river and forest and enjoy a occasional siting of a fox, 2 owls, bats and who knows what else and it would be perfect for the children to have night vision filming to monitor activity whilst offering us the added security opportunity for our property. Once again for sharing your adventure with us and good luck for your future.

      Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment to us. I hope you know what incredible grandparents you both are and how lucky your grandchildren are to have you! ❤ Your comment has made our night. Our nephews visited last month (they are 8 & 6) and when they left they asked if we would buy them an axe for Christmas! We loved how much they wanted to help! So much so that one of our nephews picked up a saw and said 'just give me something to cut, anything' 😂 they were ready to be put to work! Thanks so much for entering. The contest ends on the 30th of this month and a winner will be picked at random. I wish we could give EVERYONE a camera! Thank you so much for watching and entering. We really appreciate you x

      Thank you for replying, your channel gives us something to look forward too. We hope your nephews enjoy the opportunity they have with you both and that they get an axe for xmas. When our 2 eldest grandsons were youger Grandad bought them "junior" penknives whilst on holiday in France (we take them every year to a campsite on the river Dordogne where they learn't to river swim) they spent their whole holiday whittling sticks, maki g little rafts and racing them, we had so much fun. Our son, their Daddy, upgraded the penknives this year whilst we were all on holiday as they have listened and learn't about safety and needed to move their skills on. Our youngest didn't want to miss the action although he's only 2 half years old so his Daddy collects twigs from the walnut trees with loose bark and gave him a butter knive to strip them, he is now quite an accomplished bark stripper! The 2 eldest ones have recently been helping Grandad strip bark from treetrunks and they are all going to make a ranch style porch for the house. It's very exciting & satisfying having all these little helpers and saves them from constant xbox use!!!!! Carry on the good work both and recruit your nephews as budding little labourers, they have a great opportunity to learn so many life skills and to have safety drilled into them without even realising it. Have fun.

    Its really nice to see normal people doing this sort of thing. By normal, I don't mean it negatively, cause you guys are remarkable for doing this, but you're relatable. You make it seem like something achievable. So often I see tiny living people who are already well established. It's neat to see the process. Appreciate it.

      I'm a mobile tyre fitter in Merseyside. We are the last house on our estate, at the end of a cul-de-sac, and recently at 4am in the morning we had a "character" knocking on our windows and door, trying to get in. I was awake downstairs (I have trouble sleeping some days) and heard a gentle knock on the window which frightened the life out of me. What was more scary was the fact this person then pulled our door handle down trying to get in.
      A neighbour who had returned from a late night out noticed someone coming from behind my van and walk to our house. She thought it was me returning from an emergency call-out, but it wasn't!
      It would be amazing if we had a security camera like the one you have, especially with the very loud alarm it has! The ability to talk via the camera is brilliant too, and the night-vision is an added bonus too!

    I built a steel framed van in 1969. The steel was 3/4"sq. When you start on the chassis, do the under floor works, the floor, the frame to line up with cupboards, glue the lining (we used coronite back then) with building adhesive and joining strips then fasten the cupboards from the outside, gas and wiring and finally the skin then the windows & vents. Make sure the frame is made to line up with the cupboards. Seal everything to keep the bugs out. Perhaps a cover or workshop before you start?😁

    Just found your channel and have subscribed!
    Having moved from Scotland during 2016 following a life changing health event (heart attack) I rode my motorcycle overland to Venice, caught a ferry to Patras in Greece, then onwards to near Athens to live with a woman I'd met three years previously on Facebook, you could call me the male equivalent of Shirley Valentine ! Sadly it didn't work out and I rode back to the UK.
    In December 2016 I bought a Park home on the banks of the River Avon in the Cotswolds, it had been empty for some time, I spent a year ripping out the interior, new carpets, decoration, paint, curtains, furniture etc etc. Including cleaning the exterior by hand.
    Also installed a wrap around timber verandah to enjoy the amazing view, 20 yards from the river !!
    I'd use the camera to enhance my security without having to use electricity, a great idea!!

    Re: Bearing. If you've got a digital caliper you can get the measurements of the bearing if you take it off carefully. If you have the inner and outer measurements you won't need to buy one especially for your machine, one that will fit will do. This will help get the price down - starting around £3 on ebay. You'll find them listed by size on ebay. If the machine is imperial rather than metric sized (inches not mm) you may find that you'll need to get the size in fractions of an inch, if you haven't done this before. Also, there are going to be a lot of videos on youtube on how to fit bearings - if you freeze them overnight, it will contract in size, being a fraction smaller helps get it fitted into the outer housing and you may find that it fits the shaft well too. You'll probably need to wetsand the shaft to clean it and make it easier to fit. I don't know if the top or the bottom would come off easier - it may be better to hit it with penetrating fluid (possibly heat as well) to be able to dismantle it to get the bearing size. Knocking the bearing back into place is normally done with a socket that is the same size as the outer (avoid denting or damaging it) and using a washer with the same inner diameter as the bearing with something like a socket for a spark plug if you don't have one the right size. When you've done that reassembling with strong threadlocker because it will vibrate, will aid a good repair. Checking the balance of the blade may also be worthwhile - you may be able to take it off and put it on a pivoting balance to check the weight is the same on both sides - if it isn't, it won't spin without wearing the bearing further - this is why blades are replaced when they look ok, seem to perform well but can wear other components out. If you need to take a little weight off, using an angle grinder to sharpen the blade may be all you need to do. As for the electrics.... I'd put the camera near my back gate so I can watch my neighbours cats having a scrap...

    • @joncampoutwest
      @joncampoutwest Год назад +4

      Thanks Stephen,when I've got some time I will take the hub and blade assembly off to see the damage and measure up for the bearings as long as the shaft looks ok. I spoke to a guy randomly in a supermarket carpark the other day that had a scag 48 inch cut mower on his trailer, he's gave me a place about 40 mins from us he gets bearings from to go and checkout and also mentioned that tip of freezing the bearings before trying to fit them, I've got a big old vice so might be able to use that and the socket/hammer combo to get the bearings in, if that fails the mechanic we use for our vehicles is only 5 mins down the road and he has a hydraulic press. I need to ideally get a bunch of new nuts and bolts for the machine and go round it all and threadlock everything as quite a few things came loose whilst using it, think I was a bit to keen to get to work. Thanks for taking the time to comment and share your knowledge, much appreciated, thanks Stephen 🤙

    • @stevewoodw
      @stevewoodw Год назад +2

      @@joncampoutwest A couple of points might be worth mentioning - nylock nuts will stay on just as well as threadlocked and are probably preferred but are more expensive. Also, the service you had carried out wasn't cheap at £100 and maybe if you asked the mechanic who did it if they should have checked if there was any noise from the bearings. if it included a new carb, he probably gave you a really good deal. if you ask him politely if he can remember, he may or may not be able to assist - he may have done a great job and might not want to think it's his responsibility. You could review the video you've got - if you repeatedly hit divots you may want to change your style of mowing and possibly use a rake to check the surface with two of you working together. It may not have been the mowing angle and what the blade was hitting - when the new bearing goes on make sure the seals are covering the bearings because grit getting in is likely to be the cause of the problem and hopefully you won't have this again for a long time. A blob of grease on the underside of the bearing to take any debris flying up may not be a bad idea. The challenge of getting through the trees might appeal but there could be a greater chance of debris flying up and damaging the bearing seal. If you do any maintenance on it, there are mostly garden tractor type mower videos from the states or small deck mowers - not the type of mower that you have so a general maintenance video may get you a lot of views and a few quid from it - having some video of it in full working order with all the wires connected where they should be

    Ah I love your updates. It's so great to see people who take the longer route of dismantling to recycle the individual components rather than chuck everything in a skip - great work both of you. Can't wait to see your tiny home take shape. I'd love the security camera - I'm currently without fencing for my back garden (wood is expensive, eh?) and I'm feeling a bit exposed. Hey, loving your videos! I'm becoming a first-time dad in about a month's time and to free up some space me and some friends are in the process of renovating an old Caravan into a work-from-home office/ study. The biggest issue we are finding is that the caravan seems to attract the attention of opportunists who enter our garden and explore our sheds and the caravan,. we do have a ring doorbell attached to the front door which gives my significant other peace of mind knowing the house is being observed but the camera would go a huge way in making my partner feel secure, especially during the nesting period of the pregnancy and will add that extra layer of protection and peace of mind for when we use the garden :).

    Just found your channel and watched all the videos as love to see people renovating especially when care is taken with recycling. After this last video I thought I would like to add my reason for being in the draw for the security cameras. It would be for my mum who has recently retired and lives by herself. She has had her car damaged twice as lives on a busy narrow street where parking is an issue for the elderly residents and has also had youths jumping over the wall which is shared with a church where they damaged garden items. I know it would make her feel more secure and myself too. Good luck to everyone who enters as I can imagine many people will have lots of good reasons to want them. Thank you for sharing your renovation journey, excited for you, all the best. Jennie 👍👍

    Loving this renovation series, you guys are grafters for sure! What a total opportunity you have and in such a wonderful (and yes sometimes wet...)(...you're still very lucky) part of the country. I think as you develop the land you're likely to get less trespassers, especially when they see (and hear!) the Riolink camera deterrent. Hats off to you both and all the very best 😊
    If we were lucky enough to win the security camera, we would use it in our converted van when we go off travelling. Paranoia is real when leaving the van to explore the area on foot and we also have a 10 year old doggo who uses the bed in the back for daytime naps when she's had enough walkies. A security camera would come in mighty useful to keep an eye on her and our beloved little van. 😀

    Love watching y’all do this! I would love to do this one day with my husband! I would use the camera on my property to stop trespassing and stealing.

    LOOKING GOOD 👍! Epic progress. Hope you can get the brush cutter fixed INEXPENSIVELY. Those mobile home / caravans, were made cheaply. Particle board for the sub floor! Glad you're able to recycle so much! Love to Maggie! ❤️ your videos!

      thanks so much Dee! Jon can't wait to try and get it fixed and use it again when the weather is a bit better. We are spending new years eve catching up on our comments (we've got just over 2,000 to work through) can't wait to share with you what we've got coming up. Happy new year! Emilie, Jon & Maggie xxx
