- In our new video series History Untold we will be taking a more in-depth look into objects and stories from our new exhibit Continuum, and filming on location where these events occurred. For our first episode we examine perhaps Buffalo’s first true crime murder mystery: The Three Thayer Brothers and the Murder of John Love.

Well done video, Patrick and Crew! Keep it going!
good production values!
If you pause the video very near the end you can see a newspaper that reports the hanging took place in Lafayette Square, not Niagara Square.
Thank is true. The Courthouse was where the Erie County Central Library now stands...roughly. Therefore Lafayette Square was right outside the courthouse building. But, maybe they expected a large crowd and Niagara Square represented a larger space?
And those newspapers are incorrect… that actual documentation from the period tells that it was at Niagara Square, not Lafayette
Keep it up!
When I was in 6th grade at the (then 2 year old) Boston Valley School we put on a play about the history of Boston. A song was written by our misic teacher Evelyn Carpenter telling the story of John Love. I wonder if anyone else remembers it.
This is great… except these particular hangings took place in Niagara Square, not Lafayette Square - despite what those old newspaper headlines say
Bastards hung me in the spring of twenty five lyrics from highwaymen
