@Eddythebeast666 It certainly was a war of exapansion, I agree. No matter what war Americans are involved in, freedom always seem to be at stake in thier eyes. The war in Iraq had nothing to do with America's freedom but it still was mentioned so many times. I agree it makes no sense and don't understand the connection, but it doesn't really insult me. I think the guy was saying simply that.. America's soldiers are brave, and that is why they are free in the first place.
Does anyone know if DNA was collected from the bodies???? My GGGgrandfather was with the NY Militia and never came back. He was sick and died in the Militia Hopital, probably from Typhus. Any clues or contact would be appreciated! Rich Barnum TN, USA
@Salvus967 8:48 I know its the same old rhetoric that is always used on such occasions but they weren't fighting for freedom when they invaded Canada, nor is there any shortage of bravery up here. That's what we & the Native peoples were doing. America was fighting for the right to continue expanding & they did not recognize any one else right to exist.
@Eddythebeast666 Eddy, you need to get out of 1814 and join us in 2011 bud.....It's nice this side of the millenia...we have cable TV and the internet! lol!
Im a Canadian Ex military..our hearts our not that way..any fallen is Mourned..does not matter who it is or where they fall,,they fell in the line of DUTY...
@Salvus967 The irony is the hypocrisy of Madison's speech calling for war. On one hand he demands Britain stop trading with Natives who were fighting to hang on to their lands from US aggression & the same speech demands the right to trade with Napoleon through the British blockade. Sure the impressment of American sailors could be seen as just cause but that only came in to play to pressure the US after the Louisiana Purchase. Nor did the States that suffered impressment most vote for the war.

@Eddythebeast666 The war has been over for 199 years. Show some respect for the dead. Happy 4th of July. Or a belated Bonne fête du Canada...
@Eddythebeast666 I don't really get how Canada was insulted..
