  • In this video, we’ll see how to make a foam cutter with some basic home items. It’s inexpensive and doesn’t take much time for the making. With this hot wire, you can cut polystyrene foam without causing a mess.
    Process.
Take a 9-volt battery and attach two pencils on both sides of the battery with glue. Afterward, get a popsicle stick and cut it so that it covers the distance from two pencils. And glue the endpoints and join them with the pencil. Let the glue dry for some time.
If you don’t have a 9v battery, you can use 2 Aa batteries as well.
After the adhesive has dried, attach the 9v connector with the battery and join the wires to the switch with a soldering iron. If you don’t have the soldering device, you can join the wires with household tape.
Now that the switch is connected with the battery glue it with the popsicle stick.
Finally, take the wires to the tip of the pencil and pull the copper out. Wrap both ends of the pencil with the naked copper. When you turn the switch on, the flowing current will make the wire hot which will work as a cutter for styrofoam.
In today’s world, polystyrene, or commonly known as styrofoam is a heavily used item. From house programs to large events, the use of styrofoam is widespread.
It is cheap and very available everywhere, which is a cause behind its frequent use.
In the old times, polystyrene was cut with a paper cutter knife found on stationery shops. It is sharp and can cut the foam quite well except when you cut with it, it creates a lot of flakes and as a result causing a mess every single time.
There are electric cutters for this job, but the machines are quite expensive and overkill for anything that isn’t a large scale. For hobby stuff or small tasks, something like this DIY foam cutter is the perfect solution.
