  • This one is a piece of accordion history & one of the earliest recordings ever of a keyboard accordion designed by Pietro & his famous older brother Giudo. The audio is not up to today's standards but it's good enough for one to appreciate his incredible virtuosity. The Austrian composer, Franz Von Suppe composed some 40 operettas most of which are known these days for their beautiful overtures. His most famous are this one & the Light Cavalry Overture. I always thought the storyline on this overture was that of a poor peasant & a rich poet squabbling over a beautiful lady, but it turns out that the poet was the poor one who is chased out to the country from his lover in the city. The "Peasant" is a peasant shepherd girl whom he falls in love with during his stay in the country. Pietro plays an abridged version of his own arrangement possibly due to the severely limited capacity of those early LP records (nothing much longer than 3 min.)
