P. Diddy had this idea to have this show about putting talented people together to "make a band". Then, realized that he was way too busy to give it the attention it needed for the band to be successful. What pisses me off is that he seemed to make it the "bands" fault. They don't know anything about the music business, and he crushed all these aspiring musicians' dreams. What a dick! But I really haven't thought about it that much. Lol
Puffy's problem has always been that he thinks he can "make" people talented. He can take talent, like Biggie, and make it a star, but you can't make someone have talent. Puffy has an ego and that's why he hasn't been highly successful in the music business since the early 2000s. His money and success comes from other revenue sources, not music. Puffy has not had the consistency of someone like Dr. Dre. Dr. Dre finds talent and allows them to do what they do. He just assists them into being as good as they can.
I disagree. First of all these cats had a number one album, that is by record industry standards successful. As far as a label like Bad Boy goes one platinum album recoups the initial investment and then some even with a follow up that flops the label is way in the black and the artist is dropped. Last, Combs was what is considered a traditional A&R guy. A&R guys back in the day used to hit the road and seek out talent and then actually develop the artist into a star. Motown somewhat changed that by taking the "garage band" like the temptations and developing them. Fast forward to today, labels want artist who already have moved an impressive amount of units with a strong social media following at which point in my opinion artist do not need a label anymore. Some artist who have hundreds of thousands following them give away that ass and sign a deal makes no damn sense. Its the equivalent of saying you want to be a slave to a label. Just put your shit on itunes and ask your followers to cop that shit.
TheIGGod Brother, ever since napster and other P2P which was circa 2000 all labels have been losing money. It wasn't until last year labels became profitable again. This is why the 360 deal became a "thing" because music did not generate money but a brand could. Pre-360 deals labels did not touch an artist brand. Combs has made billions from Sean Jean and his liquor product among other things because you cannot download those things for free. Dre made billions not until he put his brand on headphones and a streaming service. Imagine of Dre did that while signed with Eazy or with Death Row. Heller, Eazy, or Suge would be the billionaires of that story. But most of your artist before current era are capitalizing off the brands that ironically record labels helped build but cannot touch the revenue. Unfortunately lables are wise and now make new artist give up that 360 ass without even promoting the 360 part of the artist career but let an artist get $100k for appearances at a vegas club and the label will have its hand you best believe.
Q struggle with bipolar Mike is still upset about certain business issues amongst the group Willie nd Rob are close and have ok solo ongoing careers Brian is trying to redeem himself because while they weren’t famous he lashed out They all come from issues that’s why they are great Long live Day 26!!!!!!
