💯 As a Asian American 1st gen daughter, I felt every pain in this episode. The scene of her standing in front of her parents asking for permission to go to something threw me all the way back into the STRESS. Then the not-really compromise your parents offer was spot on, especially her accidentally expressing that she just wants space from her overbearing family, and then feeling like an ungrateful pile of poo.

I love how the MCU often color-codes their magical system. Space magic is blue, reality bending stuff is red, purple represents pure power that is unpurposed, or stolen-it's capable of passing hands. Obviously there's exceptions like Loki's green magic (although I think in that case Loki actually consciously chooses to color his magic green), but generally you can tell sort of what's going on based on what the colors are. Afterlives, or "intersectional planes of consciousness" as Tawaret put it, all have a theme of orange and purple, meaning souls that are wrenched away from the body by the power of death. Kamala's quick vision was more yellowish than orange, but I think it's still an afterlife. And the fact that the figures' eyes were more yellow might mean their minds are more connected to the living world than with somewhere like the Duat.

I've been reading Ms Marvel since the day that the first issue dropped. This show is absolutely perfect. My favorite part is that the actress who plays Kamala is also a Ms Marvel fan who's been reading it since day one and dressing up as Kamala since she was a kid. In fact she's such a huge Marvel fan then now that she has access to him she texts Kevin feige and complains to him about when he messes up continuity from the comics. She's fiercely adamant that this is not 616.

I absolutely love that we are getting some fresh air with a show that just wants to have fun and get a teenager who just wants to be a kid. I feel like with Peter we never got to see his early days before he became a hero and decided to use it to do good. Kamala is not only going to just be a kid, she's going to have to learn (like Peter) what it's like to be a kid with a superpowered responsibility. Because I really want MCU to touch on that aspect of how a teenager feels deeply when dealing with these stressful life or death situations and what motivates them to keep going.
It's also just so nice to see someone who is so happy and bright about getting that opportunity as opposed to many of the heroes we met who saw their powers as a curse that hindered their lives. I hope this show continues to show Kamala's overly positive nature and help people resonate with her comic-book-nerdy weirdness that she takes pride in.

This show is going to have a massive impact, I hope. You're going to see more TV shows and movies trying to dip into the art/editing style (someone's going to attempt to mimic that visualization of text messaging within a year, for example). More willingness to be creative with the camera. More optimism and color. More expansive representation of different cultures. And hopefully writers will study how they're writing these characters and these story beats.
I love this show already. They didn't even introduce a villain in the opening episode, and it was fine. The depiction of the family dynamics is superb. I love every member of that family, from how they're written to how perfect the casting and acting is.
And Iman Vellani... man, it's impossible to overstate how great she is. Perfect breath of fresh air. Best addition to the MCU in a long time. Her personal story and connection to the character is awesome. Absolutely stellar casting... like... RDJ Iron Man, Ryan Reynolds Deadpool, Hugh Jackman Wolverine levels of perfect casting. She is Kamala Khan.
And this was directed by the same guys that did Bad Boys for Life?!?!
This episode gets a perfect rating of 6/6 Scott Lang Podcast Episodes. (Please Marvel, put out an actual podcast with him interviewing other Avengers and MCU people!)

So the Bracelets could either be the Quantum Bands (the first thing that popped in my mind when I saw it), which is the gizmo that powers up the hero Quasar (kinda a C- list cosmic hero, used to be more relevant in Marvel Cosmic, but nowadays on the sidelines) or ot could be the Nega Bands, which are a Kree invention, and that would keep the connection to the Kree (since they dropped the Inhuman thingy). Could also be that the MCU just combined these two concepts.

The family dynamic reminds me of another recent story, Turning Red. Obviously there are many people who can easily relate to it. Maybe even with another mother/grandmother hiding her own secrets.

Hello! I gotta be honest, I didn’t expect much and was really surprised how much I enjoyed the first episode! Pretty impressive marvel keeps dishing out show after show and their product seems fresh and new/unique for everything they do. This raises my hopes for She Hulk!

I didn't even think about this but I definitely think it would be interesting to see Carol struggle with Kamala's admiration. Carol is definitely someone who is completely confident in herself but she hasn't spent much time on earth and she probably doesn't see earth wanting anything from her so maybe Kamala completely fangirling over her could throw her for a loop and make her wonder about what exactly the Avengers do on earth. Or something like that.
I think this is part of the reason why I really like crossovers - because when characters interact with each other they tend to propel each other's story arcs forward and bring out new traits and characteristics in them. The solo movies are all fine and I'm not saying that a character can't have a mostly solo journey - not just a main character with a bit of side character interaction - but i think...I think when you have characters interacting and are fairly close to all being the main characters (like I think the Marvels will be) I think it really propels the characters forward.
And this was such a _solid_ start for a character like Kamala I'm so excited and she's just so relatable. Iman is so relatable too - I've been seeing some of her interviews and stuff and I'm losing my mind a bit because I'm like this girl is such a fan like me w h a t.

THIS. Carol is for sure gonna be uncomfortable with a teenager who idolizes her and an adult version of the kid who did (Monica) before her Mom died. Her Ghosts of Past and Present, in a way. There will be a lot of “You’re the best! You’re my favorite!” and “What the hell is wrong with you? Why did you leave us?” Carol gonna struggle.

Honestly in my head Fury's been texting her what's been happening since "I am Iron Man" (uh, the first one not... well, you know) and Carol's been assuming it's a rib because no one group could be *that* dysfunctional.... Very much looking forward to Kamala and Carol meeting but I have to admit I'm a little torn. On the one hand a post-triumphant overcoming of the odds with an offer to come hang out in space would be cool (ideally on that rooftop where Kamala tried on the glowing gloves for continuity sake). On the other... whatever 'villain' we get having won only for Carol to drop in eye a-glow and seriously pissed off would be hilarious. And now that I've typed that I've just realised we're likely to get the double whammy of Kamala fangirling over Carol *and* getting to see space stuff all at the same time when The Marvels finally gets here.

The thing that continues to gut me is, while it's totally understandable for Kamala to think her dad's Pakistani Hulk would've been "humiliating", you just know that if he actually went to AvengerCon dressed like that, everyone there would've loved it. It really hurt to see how hurt his feelings were when she said that, because he really is one of the best characters in a very strong cast!

Soldering is maybe the easiest techno craft to learn. It's effectiveness is much diminished given micro electronics, and the inherent fragility of soldered joints but what it can still do it does very well.

I love Kamala as much as I do I think because she reminds me so much of Hiro Nakamura. In a show full of people with superpowers, he was the one that wished he had them, and when he got them was so excited and so ready to use them for good. He was the representation of hope and optimism. And I get that same feeling with Kamala.

This was a beautiful show. The cinematics, the animations, the hint at her powers color with the different light and clothing in the first part of the episode, the hint at (probably?) the Djiins being vilains in the season. They did an amazing work.

I absolutely love this show and looking forward to your reactions to it!! it's funny tho, for Kamala's captain marvel cosplay, it does fit the typical strict desi's parents idea of "Skimpy". They showed a shot of her pulling at it because it might be too tight for them, the top doesn't reach over her pelvic area, etc. At least in my experience, being fully covered doesn't fully mean it won't be considered skimpy in my parents eyes. It's just awesome how little details like that can also be used as an easter egg to Cap. Marvel's og costume!

This is how you do it. Being Desi is part of Kamala's identity but not all of it. She is a nerd. She leans on her family's prioritizing family more than she does on their religion. "Poor Bruno, small family" Her brother is super devout, the rest of the family isn't and kind of roll their eyes at him. It is more about their family dynamics. There are cultural attitudes that aren't directly tied to religion. All family members are unique and multifaceted instead if stetero types.
