I was in a Orlando funk band named Big Shirley and we played a lot of these downtown venues back in the mid-nineties. Was also in a rock/grunge band in the early nineties and played at Club Nowhere many times, as well. A friend of mine, who later became a bandmate in Big Shirley, managed The Waxtree. As a longtime fan of what you do, thank you so much for this piece. I'm going to share it out with my old bandmates, as most of us still live here in greater Orlando.
Wow! I played at every club mentioned, SEVERAL times. I have to admit, I had completely forgotten about opening for Murphy’s Law and I had to borrow the drummers bass drum pedal right before we played. Club nowhere... my memories of that place from outside is from the back/load in area. We played our first 6 or so shows there, every Sunday that first summer that we were a band. Played at the first warped tour as well as opening for 7 seconds, the offspring and later bad religion at the edge. That place in no longer recognizable! You churned up so many great memories from some of the best years of my life. And you were there for most of them. How cool is that?!?!
NOFX, MXPX, Fugazi, T.S.O.L., Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Fear, So many great bands so many great memories. The Aragon ballroom, Neo, The Smart bar and my personal favorite place to hangout - The Exit when it was on Wells st. in Chicago. Punk music is in my blood and I still listen to many even today. Wax Trax records and Rolling Stone records were the place to go for those bands records for me so you often could find me there as well. Loved this video Adam and thanks for the rekindling of some awesome memories. My only wish would be to have experienced the Southern California punk scene but I was there in spirit.
Dude... You basically just relived my teenage years here in northeast Ohio... Bosstones, Clutch, Bad Religion, Weezer... Amazing being able to see some of those acts in such small venues.
I’ve been to a lot of music festivals and WT was always my favorite to go to. Got blasted with a fire house by Dexter Holland of the Offspring at my first one. Cool trip down memory lane man
Dude I'm 49 I love this blog ! I've seen just about every band you mentioned and yes I too took part in slam dancing and part of the mash pit ! You brought back many memories of being escorted out of venues !!! Sucks getting old
You've made me super nostalgic for my own teenage years, at the height of 90s grunge. I saw so many amazing bands at small venues in Nashville, all of which are gone now. I recall seeing They Might Be Giants on a stage at the back of a record store, and Counting Crows in a bar before they made it big. So many good times.
Soundgarden is my favorite band, and I would have loved to see them in their prime. I did get to see them in 2011 (I was 19), and that was a dream come true for me.
Please do a part 2! Being from and living in Orlando since/born in 91 this was such a trip. I love learning and hearing about the music scene then as I go/went to shows at least twice a month. Love this video and all the content. Keep it up, thank you for all you do
You are making me relive my life. I’m a musician and spent most my life on stage. I have played my share of Pop and Punk covers. This was a great look at those times where you were living the life. Thanks for taking the time to show these locations and letting us know which bands performed at each venue. The sheet! LOL
This is such a great idea. You’re documenting and telling stories of your younger days. This will be something you’ll be glad you did 30 years from now. I’m inspired.
Omg!! Yes!! The Edge, JJ Whispers and Zuma were my local weekday dancing spots lol Pleasure Island’s Mannequins was my go to weekend spot...great late 90s memories for sure
I love this look back of Orlando entertainment history. I was about 10 years before you, and from South Florida. We used to head to Orlando several times a year for the night life. Orlando was unknown gem for youthful days. Cheers.
South Florida was my scene as well in the late 80's and early 90's. Good Times! WPB to Miami! Summer's on the Beach, Cameo Theater, Button South, seeing a little local band called Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids.......
You’re right that this video’s content is obscure for us non-Floridians of the 90s, but it’s still quite interesting To see/hear/know. It’s amazing how you can just pluck all of these events right out of your mental databank! Your memory is astounding... I can’t even recall what I had for dinner at Beast’s Castle a few weeks ago, lol! Mahalo for sharing some of yourself with us viewers.
Enjoyed learning about your tastes in music and the different bands you went to. Those were the days that people could go to those clubs and have fun with nobody causing trouble and enjoying the concerts together. You have a really good memory.
Great episode Adam! Most of those bands made it over to us in the UK at some point. I met Less Than Jake in a record store there around ‘99, and then when I started working at music venues I would frequently work with the likes of Goldfinger, the Bosstones and later the likes of Bowling For Soup. Got to know a lot of American bands really well as they’d visit us almost yearly! I miss that life but now that I moved to the USA hopefully I’ll get to see them more often once live music comes back again 🤘 looking forward to more of these episodes Adam!
Wow! Bought back memories of my youth in Australia and made me think of my live band experiences, so many memories. On a side note, was in Telluride for July 4 in 1998 and Weezer played a festival. Entry was free but you had to collect a bag of rubbish to gain entry. We got in as tourists but still collected our bag. Was amazing. Hadn’t thought about that in years but you helped revive a memory. What an amazing life you have had. Thank you for sharing and I hope we get a part 2.
Loved this!! This was my life in the 90’s going to shows, seeing all these cool bands . Life was so simple. I remember putting a Goldfinger sticker on my moms 93 Toyota Tercel. Thanks from San Diego
Aahhh the rush of memories, it's so cool doing a tour of ur old stomping grounds! I feel that way whenever I'm in Hollywood I basically grew up on sunset, going to the Whiskey a go go and Roxy. Saw sooo many bands, ughhh those were the best times ever🤗💃✌❤
Feel free to do this in EVERY state lol! As a fellow musician, this is right up my alley! It also makes me reminisce about all the shows I attended and played! Much love Adam!
I love this concert recollection video. Thanks for sharing with us Adam. I wouldn't trade my concert days in the '80s and '90s for anything. My kids can't believe the bands I saw, but I have every ticket stub for proof lol. Ironically after seeing at least 20 heavy metal bands and more over the years, it was a Todd Rundgren concert in a small restored theatre that finally gave me permanent tinnitus 5 years ago :(
This was really cool, fantastic bands and some I never heard of and now listening to. I really enjoyed how you bring your memories, your history to life by showing the spots. This video is very refreshing.
this is so cool!! I listen to a lot of the bands you mention. Even though I was born in 99 and never experienced this time period in music, it was awesome to hear your stories and see the venues!! Awesome video!!
One of your best videos yet. One of the best concerts i went to was Beatfest. Everclear, bush, the violent fems, and presidents of the United States of America. In Salem Oregon We didn't have many venues to support a big music scene, but there was a few....... still have a Deftones demo cassette tape they were throwing out at one of their concerts. Some of the best times of my life. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
I have that same kerplunk tattoo on my leg. Also my favorite green day album. Glad you got to see so many good shows in Orlando. I only saw a few there much later than this time period. I always wondered what the Orlando scene was like in the 90s . Thanks for posting.
Great content! I miss live music so much! So many stories and memories of rock, hard rock, and metal shows from early 90's through 2019 here in Upstate NY....
This is such an amazing video. It's so cool hearing you reminisce and it made me stop and think about the hundreds of bands I've been fortunate to see on tour. I miss live shows so much and I was supposed to see Green Day and Weezer last July, which would be my 3rd time seeing Green Day and first time seeing Weezer. I love your Kerplunk tattoo, whole heartedly agree that's their best album. American Idiot is what got me hooked and I remember going on the hunt to find their albums on physical CD. Surprisingly, Kerplunk was much harder to find than 1039 was! I'm actually doing the same thing with their vinyl now, just got Insomniac in today! This time 1039 is way harder to find than anything else (of course). Thanks for a great video!
LOVED this video! It reminded me of all the venues we have lost in Arizona and all the shows I used to go to. We have some of the same musical tastes. I worked in a music venue in Phoenix and saw a lot of bands, several got too big to play our venue they first started out in. We need a part 2!!
Loved this video! My teenage youth in SoCal was centered around these same great bands. It was an amazing time. Thanks for reflecting on this subject as it made me do my own reflection of some great shows and experiences.
Mighty Mighty Bosstones were always a great show. At my first one I was trying to get the whole band to autograph a shirt (Last Dead Mouse) and I told one of the guys what I was doing and he got a another member off the bus to signing, I would never ask them to do it so it was really cool. Toasters was another great show. I wish I had seen them when Brian Sledge was there (Dub56). He is a great trumpet plater. I am envious of your concert resume, especially Blink 182, Less Than Jake, Fishbone, and Face to Face. I still hope to see Dropkick Murphy's. Great video.
Thank you so much for this trip down memory lane! Good times! Played so many of those places with South Florida based bands. Almost missed a show at Visage because I did not know there was a "North" OBT and go real lost. :) One of my all time favorite gigs was sharing a bill with For Squirrels at Club Nowhere. Dude this very appreciative. Thanks!!!!!!
Dude, I never thought I'd be in danger of tearing up to an Adam the Woo video, but damn... this took me back. I to went to many shows in the mid-to-late 90s and played many rock shows in the early 2000's, in Orlando. What a great tour. Thank you, Sir.
@@joewojtecki9991 must've left out the part about shuffling to get the morning coffee , tripping over things and yawning several times before stepping outside 😆
Excellent blog. Made me reminisce of the same time frame in Detroit my 20's and all the great bands of the day. Your memory of them is better than mine .
I don't recognize any of the places you visited, but there's something I did recognize. The wistful longing for memories of a simpler time. It's in your tone of voice, and I very much know that tone.
Hey, ADAM I THINK THAT'S COOL THAT YOUR DOING STUFF ON THE DAYS OFYOUR YOUTH WE ALL SHOULD LOOK BACK ON THE TIME'S THAT MADE US WHO WE ARE SO IF SOME PEOPLE DON'T LIKE IT DON'T WATCH ! GOOD JOB ADAM
This video makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy (and a bit jealous) to see all of the amazing concert venues and bands you have witnessed in perhaps the greatest music decade of all time. Sad to see most or all of the venues closed and know how much the musical landscape has changed. As someone who was also a teen in the 90s, what a remarkable time we were able to grow up in. Truly magical. Thanks for sharing that trip down memory lane.
Wow thanks for making a video like this Adam! I would’ve loved to have been your age in the mid 90s seeing my favorite bands in their prime. I do have fond memories of seeing guttermouth and remember your band TNT opening up for them and then you going on to play bass for gmouth for a period. Can’t wait till everything’s back to normal so I can start going to punk shows again!
Wow! You have attended a lot of shows. I was a big fan of Sepultura in the late 80’s -90s. I was a pen pal with Max Cavalera for a couple years (yes, before email entered my life) and anytime his tour would stop in Columbus, I would go to the show then hang out after. I need to upload those old hang-out videos someday.
Love Green Day totally wore out my blue dookie cassette my freshman year of HS listening to it on my Walkman on my way home from school every day which led me to discover so many great bands because of them
I was at many of those venues, only seeing metal and hair bands! Lol! Thanks for blowing my mind with the grounds of the Fern Park Station! Oh the times I had there!
Love the stories and personal nostalgia! I remember those early warped tours! Would love to have seen Green Day back then in the early days also! Hoping for a Part 2 for the following years!!
Thank you for the memories! We must have crossed paths at a lot of those shows. So many good times at those venues. I think I'm still hungover from drinking warm Icehouse beer during the Swinging Utters show at the FBI.
Alright!! Loved the trip down memory lane and hearing stories about the wild one, young Adam the Woo , in his old stomping grounds! Loved those bands too. Mighty, Mighty Bosstones- one of the gateway bands that led me and my brother, to the discovery of old skool ska. Great episode today!!!
I saw Rocket 88 at the House of Blues in 1990 while on vacation. That afternoon I met Michael Andrew and Swingerhead at their cd release at Virgin Records at Downtown Disney. I was amazed how the swing music was more popular in the Orlando area than other parts of the country other than LA. I followed that type of music during that time period, which I enjoyed more than the pop music of the '90's. My son would recognize about 80% of the bands you mentioned in this video. He'd always go to the Warp Tours if they played close to home. He's also a drummer that has had several punk bands. Thanks Adam, enjoyed this video. Gregg
Great video Adam! Love it when you cover old concert locations and clubs and give the history and background and also share your personal experiences. I am a big fan of Mike Patton and all of his bands and work. Ever see Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Peeping Tom, or Tomahawk? That guy is brilliant. Also love Alkaline Trio. I’ve met Matt Skiba a few times and he is a great guy. You and I are the exact same age and it seems we have grown up enjoying many of the same bands and music. Seeing Green Day and Pantera around the timeframe that you did must have been pretty amazing. Those guys were crushing it then. I miss the freedom and the excitement of those days. Nothing beats a fun day filled with great live music and friends. Awesome memories. Ever think of doing a Woodstock trip or sites of other famous concerts and events? Maybe the old CBGB’s location in NY, the Stone Pony in Jersey, or the Metro in Chicago? Those would be some pretty epic Vlogs too. 👍🏻🙂
Oh man, bringing back some good memories of bands I've seen so band names I haven't heard in a long. I was in Orange County California during that era. You've had to have seen Less Than Jake a few times since they are from Florida, well Gainsville. This was fun, Adam. *Oops, posted that part of LTJ before you made that comment.
Very cool video Adam. In 1993 I was sent to Orlando for basic military training for the U. S. Navy! I believe it was the last year they were open for trainees. Now everyone is sent to Great Lakes!
Awesome video. I had totally forgotten about the Sapphire Supper Club and saw one of my favorite bands there, Big Sandy and His Flyrite Boys, back in '95ish there. Also used to go to The Club at Firestone and Visage on Friday night with friends from disney.
You're giving me flashbacks! I miss The Edge. We went to many of the same shows. Then you drop the name Groove Tube and I start remembering all my trips there to drop off fliers for shows.

30% Disney adventure ,

I loved it, brought back a lot of awesome memories of the florida punk scene!
100% my wheelhouse back in the day + WPRK radio in the mid-late 1980s - punk & new wave - first time I heard The Violent Femmes
Great video to mix in! Really interesting music history and Adam history!
I was in a Orlando funk band named Big Shirley and we played a lot of these downtown venues back in the mid-nineties. I remember you guys. We played with you guys at Summer Palooza in '97..I was in Disappearing Boy. Good times back then.
As a Brit musician but big fan of your work and of the Orlando area I love this alternative tour
Loved the Edge. It's where all of us Navy students hung out in 92. Orlando was a fun party town.
I'm in Orlando now, but it was awesome connecting these same types of clubs to my upbringing in St. Louis. I miss those days.
Wow! I played at every club mentioned, SEVERAL times. Yup, you sure aren't kidding about forgetting more stuff as we get older. Nice little trip down memory lane there, thanks for sharing!
Loved this video. I get very nostalgic cruising around St. Louis when I see the former locations of my childhood venues.
Soundgarden is my favorite band, and I would have loved to see them in their prime. I did get to see them in 2011 (I was 19), and that was a dream come true for me.
they were scheduled to play embassy in 97 i think right around the time of their breakup.
Saw them open for Gn'R (I went for soundgarden) on New Year's eve when badmotorfinger dropped.

Pleasure Island’s Mannequins was my go to weekend spot...great late 90s memories for sure
JJ Whispers! Oh the fun!!!
Same! 91-94. Had my fair share of dance off’s at JJ’s industrial nights. Loved the Edge. NIN. Nietzer Ebb. Front 242.
This was one of my fave videos. Brought back a lot of nostalgia on my own times growing up and attending local shows. Great job!

I promoted punk / ska bands here in Los Angeles.

Roy Orbison appeared at Disneyland just before his passing. Something about that location that added a lot of magic to his concert.
You just reminded me, I saw Roy Orbison at Valley Fair in MN. It's an amusement park up here.

amazing video! brought back many memories of Earth Crisis and Snapcase shows in the Northeast ❤
Thanks for the throwback. The music scene in Orlando is the ONLY thing I miss from growing up there. Great times

he asked for a 5 and got a 51!

I just turned 71 and have no idea the bands you are talking about! LOL But i did enjoy your tour !
I saw the Dave Clark 5 at the Melodyland Theater directly across from Disneyland in 1965. Just walked up, bought a ticket for $2.50 and rocked on.
I am 72 and know of most of the bands that Adam mentioned...but I’ve always been into music and I lived in the area during that time.
I'm not (71) yet, but I'm no spring chicken either. 😂😆. And the only two I'VE Heard of is Pantera And Radiohead. I definitely feel you ‼️😂😆👍🏿.
This is great! Looking forward to more exploring and adventures in and around Orlando/Greater Orlando area! Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for this video, brings back memory’s. I was at the Helmet concert at the Edge 1-15-95.
Thank you Adam. I really enjoyed this one!
I went to the warped tour in Milwaukee when I was in 9th grade. One of the best times I've ever had
I really enjoyed this and a big thumbs up! 👍🙏🏻
I'm envious of your list of live music acts. Impressive!
Love nostalgia Adam. Thank you. Sad to see so many venues have met their demise.
What a whirlwind of memories - thanks for the share!
Ha ha i checked out your video twice it gets better each time visting these music venues awsome thanks for showing us around your old stomping grounds
Love Green Day totally wore out my blue dookie cassette my freshman year of HS listening to it on my Walkman on my way home from school every day which led me to discover so many great bands because of them
This brings me back to my high school days in the Seattle/Tacoma area. Watching bands and playing in bands too. Good times.
That was a great trip down memory lane. I consider being a teen in the mid 90s as an incredible blessing. What a time to have lived through...
This was wonderful!! I look forward to part 2 ;)
Aww man. This video brings me back. And I've seen just about every band you mentioned. Face to Face is still my favorite band to this very day.
Incredible list of bands that played in that area. Incredible era...great times.
Adam the Wild! Lots of fun and the good days. Glad you have lots of good memories. Thanks for the fun video.
Haven’t heard those bands in years, now I gotta go dig them up again. Thanks for sharing!
Gregg
Love it!!! All awesome bands. I feel so old!! A lot of band I would see back then
Adam getting thrown out of a club while yelling "I'm just having fun!" is the most Adam The Woo story I've ever heard.
My music era-you were so lucky to see all those amazing bands
I love hearing about the bands you watched/listened to. You’re I think just a year younger than me so you’re speaking my language! 😊
You Experienced ALLOT of Good Bands. 🎸🎤🎶🥁 thanks for sharing.
Very cool video Adam. In 1993 I was sent to Orlando for basic military training for the U. S. Navy! I believe it was the last year they were open for trainees. Now everyone is sent to Great Lakes!
It's nice to hear you talk about your nostalgia, thanks for the content.
