Sheesh, $80 for a hotwheel scale Prime I could maybe stomach with accessories and a hotwheel compatible trailer but for just the cab and a fancy box? No way.
Hot Wheels lingo... - Metal/Metal = diecast base and body - Spectraflame paint - thick metallic paint, then they mention the tampo on top of that - Real Riders = actual rubber tires
What’s next? Monster High x Jem and the Holograms? Oh wait, they already did that back in 2017 and called it “Monster High: Electrified” and it was so bad it was funny. That movie’s also got a bootleg of Kremzeek in it.
That’s brilliant forward thinking, they knew that people are going to want to transform him (otherwise what’s the point?) So they gave you options to display him both ways and I love that
The write up you mentioned is actually correct, and most of it is brand driven: Transformers Optimus Prime refers to the character (most likely a Hasbro requirement to have Transformers in front) Optimus Prime (G1) refers to the toy (which explains why they added the "The" in the first mention, most likely also a Hasbro ask to add the G1) the other parts are Hot wheels brand talk: Metal/Metal refers to Metal body, metal chassis, Full graphics means tampo graphics on top of the spectraflame (which is trademark name for hot wheels metallic paint) and Real riders have been the trademark wheels name for hot wheels since day one. it still is not worth $80 though.
@@SideswipePrime606 usually you only have to put markings on first mention of the term. Most likely the trade marks for transformers and Optimus prime are in the front of the package.
These are companies out to make a buck first and foremost. If they can charge huge money and sell out, they will. I'm just happy that I have the willpower to say "no" when I don't think something is worth "x" dollars.
From looking at the earnings statements of the past couple years, it doesn’t seem to be working. As of March of this year, revenue down 24% for the first quarter, and 2023 saw their yearly earnings fall 14.5%, these numbers in spite of their price increases. They’re pricing their core fandom out, which is frustrating for us, and bad for business to them.
I used to belong to RLC club many years ago and they had a Gucci Hot Wheels that was retailed at $249.00. So I can see Mattel putting this 1:64 Optimus Prime at $80 dollars. Only thing that looks great on him is the shiny chrome that Mattel usually does for most of their RLC cars. It’s probably because of the chrome paint they put on each of the Optimus that is making them so pricey.
I think the Hot Wheels/Transformers stuff is neat. However, between OP's $80 price tag and Bumblebee being shortpacked, this collaboration is kind of a disaster so far.
I would like to point out that really wouldn't please both MIB collectors. The reason being that you actually have to take the toy out of the packaging, transform it and then put it back in the packaging which completely defeats the purpose of having it MIB. That's not a MIB figure at that point, it's a previously openly and lightly played with figure. You can only call it MIB if you never open it so actual MIB collectors would have to leave it in truck mode as a Hotwheel because that's how it comes packaged originally. If you want to display it in robot mode in the Transformers style packing you can do that but you can't call it MIB because you would have to open it to get it there. I personally don't care, I don't keep Transformers MIB and I don't think there are too many MIB collectors in the community so it's probably a smart idea that it's packaged on the Hotwheels side because there's more of a MIB collector community for Hotwheels than there are for Transformers.
We've only seen the Mattel side of this collaboration, I wanna know if we're gonna get a specialized transformer that's gonna be based on one of the Hot Wheels cars probably twin mails since it's the mascot car for Hot Wheels.
Echoing the sentiment of other commenters but I kinda wanna see a Barbie collab. Just any pink convertible that turns into a Barbie-esque fembot. But a hot wheels car that is also a transformer would be cool
as a longtime Hotwheels fan and recent Transformers collector…holy shit man as absolutely amazing as this collab stuff is this also seems kinda frustrating, I mean ffs I paid $25 for a loose G1 optimus and I don’t care how well it scales with my hotwheels $80 is a bit steep
Now hasbro should make transformers figures that transform into hotwheels. I would kill to see Twinmill of the Deora II in the style of like a legacy evolution figure or something.
I recently got my hands on some Spy Changers and I don't know why we don't have those anymore? Takara Tomy has their Tomica line (which include 'bases' that can collapse for transport!), why isn't Hasbro working with them to make new Spychangers that are compatible with them? They're just little guys with barely any parts they can't be that expensive.
Two of the biggest fandoms have come together for the first time with the Hot Wheels Transformers Optimus Prime. Modeled after his first appearance in Generation 1, this die-cast version of the Autobot leader can convert from a heavy-duty truck cab into a towering robot, ready to battle the Decepticons. We even designed the packaging so you could display it in either vehicle or robot mode. My big question is... with Hasbro and Mattel officially working together on collaborative toys where's the really obvious one that should have been the first thing they made together. If you don't know what I'm talking about then you either don't know Transformers, don't know Mattel's most popular brand, or both. Look at G1 Arcee's vehicle mode, look at her color scheme, and tell me why the first collaborative toy these companies have made together isn't an Arcee that transforms into the Barbie dream car? Hasbro literally ripped off Mattel when they designed Arcee, they made her more futuristic in design so it's not exactly the Barbie dream car but that's totally the Barbie Dream Car and now they have an opportunity with the license to legitimately make it Barbie's dream car. When I first heard that Hasbro and Mattel were collaborating together my first thought is Hasbro is going to produce an Arcee figure that transforms into the Barbie Dream car and Mattel is going to produce a non-transforming version of Arcee's G1 vehicle mode that's in scale for Barbie and Ken to be able to ride in. How has that not happened yet? I could even see Mattel making a Barbie that can cosplay as Arcee. Arcee essentially is Hasbro making a Barbie knock off so it's weird to me that they aren't doing anything with the character now that they can legally go all out on that Barbie homage.
This is nice, and I’m glad Hasbro is reaching out to these other companies. It’s an exciting time to be a Transformers fan. But for that kind of money, I’ll get the Missing Link Optimus Prime, thank you very much
Pretty wild how this whole collab seems to come apart at seams right at the end. Either the whole design process alongside Hasbro was arduous and Mattel couldn't stand wasting resources on it anymore (which would explain the price tag) or they toy was left on a backburner for a while and someone was surprised when 2024 finally rolled in.
Yes you answered your own question about Hasbro and most probably everything else including the trailer might fit the cab and that would be awesome, it's actual two of the bumblebee per box of 72 pieces, vid on utube about it unboxing.
I've heard rumors that the lack of sales from the Star wars line is hurting Hasbro's profits. Maybe they're looking to sell off TF and this is Mattel's audition.
@@Megarover And now I'm reminded of a story a friend once told me. He got a 12 inch GI Joe in the 90's... For less than an hour before his sisters stole it, and Ken ended up dumped.
with Mattel now allowed to make Transforming transformers, I have a feeling this is only the beginning. also, I expect a Transformers X Hotwheels show sometime in the future. for those that thing that is just fallacy, Hot Wheels had Highway 35, Acceleracers (8 movies between those two), Battle Force 5, and I don't know if they've done anything since
I was surprised when I saw the announcement and thought it was pretty cool. But $80?! And no trailer?! Even with it being fully metal, I don't see how this is worth it.
I'm assuming the Optimus Prime works with the trailer for the Hot Wheels Convoy? If so, they might get some people that way.? Looks like the trailer is sticking into the cab, though, so maybe not.
Very curious to see how this does because it's not usually something typical Hot Wheels collectors would be into, wondering if it's more the scalpers that will buy them all up
I am kind of surprised that Hot Wheels is doing only Bumblebee and Optimus Prime as I would have like for them to do other Autobots or at least a collection of the Stuntacons team in car mode.
80 dollars so mattel and hasbro can make a huge profit. Also how does takara feel about their diaclone figure, i think they have thier own diecast car line still.
I know it’s expensive but that spectraflame paint is very rare. They have only put it on a few hot wheels. It would be like candy coating your real life car.
I just want to clarify something that you mention in the video. I know it's frustrating that the Hot Wheels basic line K case is only including one in a case of the Volkswagen Beetle Bumble Bee. I wanted to let you know that they will carry that model over to another case code that will be in the L case for Hot Wheels basics for 2024. I know this because I am a Hot Wheels collector and I know that if you could not get the model from a basic Hot Wheels case you will get another opportunity to get the model in the following case code if you miss out on getting it in the initial case which is the K case Hot Wheels basics for 2024.
Honestly, the price doesn't surprise me. It's is a far more complex design (ie more parts) and it's one that they are not going to be able to reuse anywhere else. The JP Jeep they can always reuse as just a plain jeep. A Transforming, cab over semi is pretty much only going to be one thing. Plus, there's a good chance that the license with Hasbro may have had a minimum price limit so that it would not undercut/undersell the G1 reissue of Optimus that Hasbro decides to do.
Wait! Metal/Metal. I have seen that term used for full diecast hot wheels. so the whole thing is diecast? It kind of looks like it very much could be from the photos. Now I'm curious.
This thing looks so cool. I'd love to get one.. but $80 for a transforming hotwheel (the same price as missing link prime!) that does not innovate on the g1 toy in any way.. That's a bit ridiculous.. No trailer either... I know there's a $10 OP coming that doesn't transform but I just don't feel like this is worth $80.. I think this needs to be like $30-50ish tops with a trailer.
This says to me that Hasbro is strapped for cash, if they’re willing to let competitors have the opportunity to sell Hasbro merch and IP. How much did Hot Wheels pay Hasbro for the rights to do this?
can get the Takara-Tomy ( Tomica ) Optimus Prime for $15-$20 and a trailer is available. Granted it's the TF Prime / Bayverse long nose type available in different flavors including non-flame Gen1, but it's a neat Japanese import, it's HotWheels scale, and it's a fraction of the retail price of the Mattel version... I'm seeing pre-orders on eBay for this Mattel version for over $150, and even at $80, this is nuts. --- If I had to buy a Mattel OP, I'd rather buy the TRACK FLEET version, not rubber tires, but it's definitely Gen1 cab-over Freightliner Optimus AND it has trailer, and it's half the retail price of this cash-grab version.
Oh metal/metal means it all metal like with premium cars where it a metal base on top of a metal frame for hot wheels and the thing with the super flame thing is the paint
This is just the beginning with Hasbro's new executives' lack of creativity&product development. They're interested in becoming a media and IP company. So it will start outsourcing their production. Most likely it will start suing 3rd party companies. Considering how it screwed D&D, it's likely going to happen to Transformers too.
I mean there was that Hybrid Style, and yeah it came with a wealth of accesories, and was also more expensive, and die cast. So I'm guessing thats a factor. This is for big time collectors, and I bet it's going to sell out rather quickly. You think Transformers fans are nuts? Hot Wheels collectors pay 100's of dollars for non transforming carded rare cars.
FYI, I only designed the package, I did not write the copy.

It wasn't a simple build, you just read it. That cost has to go somewhere
Oh metal/metal means it all metal like with premium cars where it a metal base on top of a metal frame for hot wheels and the thing with the super flame thing is the paint
An Optimus prime but made with kenergy
Nice, now send him through a booster.
I'm genuinely surprised they didn't call him Hot Wheelimus Prime.
Why would they do that?
They are saving it for the hot wheels scale wheelie.
Bit of a weird expectation to have but go off
Hard pass at $80. Next?
This is just the beginning with Hasbro's new executives' lack of creativity&product development. They're interested in becoming a media and IP company. So it will start outsourcing their production. Most likely it will start suing 3rd party companies. Considering how it screwed D&D, it's likely going to happen to Transformers too.
Hasbro wants to farm out their IP, which will get them short term cash, but I don’t like and don’t think it will be beneficial long term.
I can see a cheaper version of this later on, regular paint/wheels/box ect. I can see $35 to 40 tops.
Now what if bandia did transforming model kit
