Solo Kayaking and Hiking the length of the River Thames - Part 3

  • Third and final of a three-part film of my journey down the River Thames Trail from its source in the Cotswolds, through Oxford, Windsor, London, and eventually to the estuary at Thames Barrier (also known as Sea Reach).
Ending the kayaking section of the trail at Putney on the tidal river, I planned to complete the remaining 16 miles on foot. This took me through the familiar sights of central London, and other parts of London that have personal connections to me. The temperature in London on the final hike day was 36 degrees celsius!
I hope you enjoy watching these videos as much as I enjoyed filming and editing them.
I plan on doing more videos like this so please consider subscribing to my channel, give us a thumbs up (or down if that’s how you feel!), and say hello in the comments.

Thanks Stevie. I just watched the whole lot. I put a Mirror dinghy in at Teddington and sailed down the river and round to Essex. Camped first night just below Tower Bridge by tying up to some barges. PLA did come and have a chat - but weren't any problems. The currents were serious. And I stopped and rested when the tide was against.

Just watched the three films, and I can really feel your pain at the time, as a kid trying to impress girls I popped wheelie on my Raleigh Striker and slide of the back and landed on a drain and either cracked my Coxis or broken something as I could sit down even on a sofa. it was about 6 weeks or so before the pain fully subsided, Just like ribs there is nothing that they can do, when you break or crack them. Done that too. What an epic journey. Well done for completing it with the additional hampering of your injury.

Nice footage. Come by Putney Bridge Canoe Club Stevie - we regularly paddle between Chiswick and Battersea/Chelsea - and occasionally beyond - but you do need to follow the PLA rules in this part of the river - as you say, with the tides and all the traffic it can be quite complicated.

Sounds like alcohol is too much part of your life. I used strategy games like blitzkrieg 2 and watching podcasts to fight depression and anxiety. It was fairly easy and fairly effective. Top tip: get your alternatives in place first. Don't cut the alcohol down for the first year at least. Get a bit comfortable in life.
