      Hey I'm having the same problem the transmission hits hard you can get it up to 60 and then it slips back and just goes into limp mode around 45 or 40 and it doesn't want to go back up it seems to help when we unplug the battery terminal sometimes but it's still after a little bit it goes back to being sporadic shifting

  • @LJT9393
    @LJT9393 5 лет назад +3

    My 04 civic does this along with sometimes just dropping into gear rough and stuttering between 2nd-3rd gear. The thing is that we just got it from a dealership and it only had 82k on it. Test drove it and it never shifted bad it shifted amazingly smooth everything was good. I feel like they messed with something cause I called them out on telling us they didn’t have a ‘high speed’ balancer when it was vibrating on the test drive like a bent rim or off balance tire.

      I bet you $25... it's your serp. TENSIONER that is over 75kMi. and stucked!
      85% chance AC Compressor is fine.
      With borderline loose belt steering is jerky, the alternator is not able to put out the Amps required and ECU LEANS OUT MIXTURE so engine has randome misfire an vibrates like it has bad mounts (L4 or V6...)

    Ac.compressor is on its way out and its pulling alot.of energy causing electrical issues to be cut to the transmission components such as selonoids.

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  4 года назад +1

      That is not a bad theory, here are my thoughts. Yes the A/C compressor was going out, but I believe if was an electrical issue it would not limit itself to only solenoids in the transmission, it would most likely effect all electrical systems in the car (this was not happening). The A/C compressor is protected by a 20A fuse, it would blow fairly quickly if too much current were being pulled through it as you describe.
      In addition, on this vehicle the transmission solenoids are on a different circuit than the A/C compressor and are controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Any serious electrical issues experienced by the PCM would likely cause widespread engine problems and most sensors and solenoids controlled by the PCM would be effected (this would probably generate a lot of trouble codes and may cause vehicle to not run).
      What I believe was happening to this vehicle was a heavy mechanical load (not electrical) was being placed on engine by the A/C compressor and was confusing the PCM (it didn't know when to shift due to load and other inputs it receives). Thanks for the input!

    hey man, i been watching your videos since about 3 weeks ago and your videos are very help full and precised. i have a 2002 civic ex MT.
    i changed the bearings on the secondary shaft and the in input shaft also, after i put the transmission back on, i realized that there is a difference with the gears, i kinda have an hard shift issues when going into 2nd gear when driving. sometimes i have trouble with 5th gear as well. my clutch pretty fine i dont think thats the issue. if you have any solutions it will surely help me a lot..

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  5 лет назад

      There are a lot of variables when dissembling a transmission. For instance, if certain washers are not placed correctly or the mainshaft thrust clearance is out of spec (among many other things) then there can be issues that show up. Unfortunately pulling the transmission and double checking work may be the only way to fix the issue. A detailed repair manual for that vehicle with exploded views of the transmission is a must for doing work like this.

    • @declanosbourne62
      @declanosbourne62 5 лет назад

      @@BigDog50001 .ok. there were two big washers that have a slight belly to them,that goes under the shaft I think. I may have turn one of them on the wrong side. I didn't know that they have such shape to them when I took them. I'm not sure if that's the issue though..I put everything back in their right place. I'm not sure if it's the synchros or the gear selectors.

    I've got a 2008 honda crv that makes this shuttering/clicking noise when shifting gears (very faint) also from when shifting from park, reverse, neutral, or drive. Shifts really hard too from first to second. Possibly needs a tranny flush but I'm not sure or it could just be some kind of plate rattling around.

  • @Jsetmefree

    I think this is what is wrong with my 2008 Scion xB. It acts like a fool when the a/c is running and if the a/c has been running at any point in the drive cycle. I took it to a transmission shop and was told “it’s the transmission, but it didn’t throw any codes.” It has done this gear shifting mess every year for a few years now (when I start running the a/c, but it’s really bad this year). It also has a hard down shift with the a/c unless I use the shifter manually.

  • @mikeypotts4732
    @mikeypotts4732 2 года назад +2

    Hey is it possible a clogged expansion valve or clog somewhere else could be causing a strain on the AC compressor ultimately contributing to hard shifting? I was thinking maybe low side vacuum from a clog could make the compressor work harder. Thanks a ton for your videos!!

    • @averyalexander2303
      @averyalexander2303 Год назад

      Yes, anything that overloads the compressor will cause excessive drag on the engine. Poor airflow through the condenser and/or badly bent or blocked fins will also cause a lot of drag from the excessive high side pressure. The only way to know for sure is to check the high and low side pressures and make sure they are within a normal range.

      Some Hondas have transmission lines connected to the radiator to help it cool (they are separate from the coolant). If there is a leak inside radiator they can mix.

  • @isnowyazn
    @isnowyazn 5 лет назад

    You’d think that having a manual transmission would solve the issue, but nope. I have a 2015 Honda Accord LX 6MT and the revs are bipolar when shifting. The revs will sometimes drop rapidly or normally between shifts with the AC compressor on, and it’s impossible to modulate clutch engagement and gear shifting exactly and cleanly every time when you don’t know what to expect.

    Swapped out a radio from the junkyard into my 04 stock civic and ever since then it always says the ac is on when i turn the defrosters on and it started having shifting issues within the past couple weeks. Buuut it’s having trouble shifting with the ac on and off but not always.

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  4 года назад

      Generally, when the windshield defrost is on, the A/C automatically turns on to help get rid of moisture. Some Hondas will show the A/C light on and some do not.

    My 99’ civic has been shifting the same exact way. Except iv been using heat (Michigan winter). Do you think the heat could cause this same problem? I was told my transmission is going bad. But maybe I’ll try driving without the heat on and see if that’s issue.

    Quick question, I got a 98 Honda Accord and it’s shifts severely hard from first to second gear but every gear after that is smooth. The AC is never on either. What’s the issue? People tell me it needs a tune up but I’ve never heard of tune ups changing shifting issues

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  4 года назад

      It is probably the transmission doing that, those generation Accords are known to do that. Servicing the transmission fluid (drain and fill) can sometimes help.

    Hi What is the name of Honda Civic uses trassmission inside the Civic for FD6, FB7 and FC5 models ? Can it be AISIN and/or ? FC5 uses CVT but what trade name of company ie AISIN again ?

      AISIN is an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for many parts on Hondas. I do not know off the top of my head who makes those transmissions though.

    I live in a mountain town. I have an 03 Honda accord 2.4 lx and it leaks oil. That's the secondary issue..
    The main issue is that in lower gears driving from gear 1 and 2 or from 0-20 mph I notice the gear slip a little bit I notice when I downshift the rpm stick fast flickers from 2000 to 1000 rpm. Mind you, this is without the ac turning on.
    Is that an indicator to replace transmission or something smaller? Please let me know.
    Thanks. .

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  4 года назад

      Slipping too much may indicate an issue with transmission. Checking level (and adjusting if necessary) and/or replacing fluid might help.

      I would double check work if engine was just replaced. Very common for things to not get plugged back in and ground connections to either be missed or reconnected in a way that does not allow a complete circuit (bad ground connection).

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  5 лет назад

      Driving with the A/C on is going to put a drag on the engine (including going uphill). The question is whether the A/C system is putting more strain on the engine than it should due to a faulty system.

      But the selenoids are prone to clogging as the vehichle goes along the road the transmission heats up and then thats where the selinoid fails it very common for the honda automatic transmission of that year

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  5 лет назад +1

      Yes solenoids can get clogged or fail and effect shift quality but just because transmission solenoids on Hondas sometimes go bad doesn't mean it is always happening. I have seen several instances (including this one) where a bad A/C compressor puts too much load on the engine and effects either drive-ability/idling or shifting. Thanks for the input.
